 		Is aanyone from here going to the event? I'm going to see if I can make it but it doesn't look likely at the moment. I'm also terrified of attending an ARGish halloween event without some moral support and companions. I'm the easiest person in the world to scare.

 		Hmm, I emailed amanuensis and now I'm Sister Mollis.
Mollis means mild or flexible in Latin, but it's also very similar to my real first name. (Which is discernible from my email address)
To other people who have contacted amanuensis, what does your new name mean, and is it anything like your real name/email handle?
Also I've been on Wikipedia learning about "Indigo Children" and remembered, wasn't one of the messages about a child with a "deep blue (indigo?) eye" and a "clear, fresh mind?"

 		My name, Pyrolith, has much to do with my name:
Flame--->Pyro (pyro being Greek for "fire")
Rock--->Lith (like a flat stone that you carve stuff on, ala Rosetta Stone)

So I'm essentially a stone with a message engraved with fire.

That's pretty cool if you ask me. And I wish I could go... but California =\= New York XD

 		I tried putting the names to a angram solver but the closest I got was Thole's name, which also spelled out 'Hotel'.

I'm stumped.

 		I googled them, and they all can be found in a online dictionary:
Thole: A wooden pin, a 'thole' pin
Sweven: A vision seen during sleep, a dream
Shadow: A silhouettes, a ghost?
Wanion: A word of uncertain signification, used only in the phrase with a wanion, apparently equivalent to with a vengeance, with a plague, or with misfortune.
Pallid:1. Having an abnormally pale or wan complexion: the pallid face of the invalid.
2. Lacking intensity of color or luminousness.
3. Lacking in radiance or vitality; dull

 		I posted on the Prototype 161 forums, which run very slowly for me, about attending the event. Right now I have to walk with a cane and won't be able to run around on a mission. Someone contacted me to see if I might be an "operator" to be at home and field calls, help google things, etc. I'm sure they will have their own technology with them, but it is really nice they offered to include me. If I end up at home handing out treats to kids on Halloween, I'll participate as an Operator.

 		The Nature Of Prototype161

I wrote this in a tip to gothamist.com, trying to get them to carry a post about this exciting game...

But for those who are unfamiliar, it may also be a useful explanation.

Note: There are always surprises, but there may even be some surprising deviations from the traditional game, so there may be interesting bits I'm leaving out. The pre-game has been more involved than any I'm familiar with.

This used to be a bit of a secret underground event, but I think they're trying to get more people involved this year...

Prototype 161 is the spiritual successor to the 10-year running Midnight Madness NYC. If you've never seen the Michael J. Fox movie Midnight Madness, it goes a little something like this:

1. Form And Register A Team Of 8 People at http://www.prototype161.com/

2. Show Up At The Starting Location

3. Recieve Puzzles

4. Solve Puzzles, For Which The Solution Is A Location In The City

5. Head To The Location Indicated

6. Goto #3

This year, at their summer event, they added a new twist: a plot, with live actors playing the roles of characters in the game. Lots of twists and surprises too. My wife's team was abducted by a van full of ninjas who attempted to recruit her team to join the villains. At the finish line, my team had to rescue a girl tied to a chair from the gun-toting kidnappers.

The fee is $40 for the event this Halloween, but I'm sure it will be well worth it. It's the most fun I've ever had in New York.

Here is the registration letter I just got in my e-mail:

Agent,


Something dark is brewing in New York City. Addison Sayther's doomsday
cult, known as "Mare Vitreum," appears to be ramping up to a big event
at the end of October.

Your assignment is to infiltrate the cult, determine their objectives,
and thwart any illicit activities. Your task officially begins in New
York City at 7:00 pm on Friday, October 31st 2008. The meeting point
will be announced shortly before the event.

Assemble a team comprising not more than 8 agents. As always, if you
are unable to locate a sufficient number of friends, some will be
provided for you.

In the meantime, agents are encouraged to begin infiltration of the
cult and to collect information. Little is known about this group; attached is
the only known photo of Sayther. Prototype agents have already
determined the group's website to be www.marevitreum.com. It is
recommended that you begin your investigation there.

Please confirm your acceptance of this assignment at
www.prototype161.com/registration. There is a $40 registration fee for
each agent. Space is limited
and we expect to reach capacity quickly, so register early.

 		I found this place through a Google search, and have been lurking for a few days. I found several Brandon Larkins on Facebook. The primary one has a picture that makes me think he would be part of this. I friended him. No response. He is also in a NC network.
