I'm being a bit thick on some of these right now, and bull headed. I want to give myself a bit more time to find them. Laughing

I will take you up on your offer if I run into deep trouble.

If you can solve that danged zodiac I'd be thrilled. Or the sword - even moreso.

Bring in the big guns, girl, go get 'em.

the sword? Do you mean the one in the tapestry? and on the journal page? I can't even figure out what language it is. Some is latin, but some is not. Or am I just not reading it correctly? Maybe my eyes are getting to old.

I've a thought on the zodiac, but am not sure how to word it. The stones that were in the stone circle that he stole. Weren't they associated with some of the leo. (Red=Ruby?) and isn't leo upside down when we view it in the Northern hemisphere?

Could this be a number substitution code but with zodiac symbols instead? I'm sure you've tried that though. Just babeling really.

Rachel's new blog says her friend is making HEADway on the place...

Why do I read a clue into everything! Does it have to do with the designs on the crowns? Yikes... I never get any closer...

Secret of the DATE

Use a vignere cipher to decode the text on the DATE sword. Remember this manuscript was done in medieval England where the language was eccleastical latin.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Elias of Dereham created the manuscripts. He also wrote the Scheme of the Winds. The key is there.

Does anyone have anything specific on the Location or Object?

well done bookworm! What was the keyword? and what is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the Scheme of the Winds?
Are we all taking the Object as a sword? If so I'm assuming it's a specific one, as we would need the right length? Confused

For the location I keep going back to pg 146, which seems the clearest piece pointing at a location. I can't get a definite location from this though. Best guess is Hermitage Ruins.

For the date...no idea. There are so many scattered through the book, none seem to stand out more than others, maybe there's something in the manuscript?

Secret of the Date
Below is the solution to deciphering the date.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Scheme of the Winds is a bit of poetry/prose written by Elias of Dereham (Our Friend). The text has been copied onto the manuscript RES page, right side.

The key is to replace the text from the DIES page of the manuscript, "Mites Dites Laeti Pisce", with the corresponding wind name associated with them from the last 4 lines of the Scheme text, and the key becomes, "AustralesHisperialesEuriBorealis".

The next step is the translation and then the interpretation.

This was the result of endless hours of staring at the text of manuscript and trying to discern any connections. The all of a sudden it hit me. I tried a couple combinations and everything fell into place.

Date sword

Does that mean that we have
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
diesxcpostdiemfestumsanctialexei
or in English
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
90 days after the feast of St. Alexei
?

Is that the
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
St. Alexei of Carpathia/Moscow/Metropolitan? and hence the feast is on Feb 12 and 90 days hence would be...May 13, 2009?

Which is a bit odd because he is not a character of this time or of this story... as far as I can tell and that would be a huge leap outward... but maybe I have hte wrong guy...

Oh, and phenomenal job on the solve, Bookworm!

Now taking that
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
four winds
scenario... that seems to match up with the four initial locations (we were told that the pigpen cipher sequence was important) to match up with the four drawings on the manuscript (only one of which I think I know...) and then with the four swords below the big sword - of which I think Alisdair you are correct, we'll need the dimensions...

Great job you guys!

I believe the correct saint would be
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Saint Alexius of Rome (5th century). The tale of St Alexius was very popular in 13th century, which is the time period we are working in.

Where do we start, Book worm? You seem to have the path, here... four paths? Four Highways?

Hmmm... Where do we look?
