 		um....no
The monster used his tail to smash the tanker in to just like he used his tail to destroy the Brooklyn Bridge. The big explosion happened when he smashed the tanker.

No, the boat and the explosion don't have any connections boy.

Since search isn't your friend here is the link to an analysis of the explosion. The main pertinent point is that the explosion was quite a ways inland, while the tanker was not.
