The Aftermath
decompressing from this experience

In my mind, ending the story and pulling back the curtain all at once is too much for one day, let alone one speech.

I can see why it went that way, but whereas everything else in the world of Nonchalance was slow and measured, the Socio Reengineering seminar seemed sudden and abrupt.

I admit that I do feel a sense of loss. It feels like for the big finale that was twice as long and twice as expensive, we should have gotten an act and and ending, but we just got an ending.

I understand how much work they put into the day, and I know I was having fun through the entire 5 hours (and the month of buildup). However, for some reason, the part that sticks is what didn't happen at the end. When there was that much buildup and anticipation for a month, then concentrated attention for the full 5 hours, I was ready to burst with all of the tension for what was going to happen.

Then it ended.

Quietly.

I was confused, though relieved when Jeff finally broke down the fourth wall and answered questions. I am glad he finally got to feel like the rock star in the middle of the concert, signing posters and thanking everyone for their contributions. For everything they've done over the years, they deserve it.

As it stands, I'm thankful for everything. These adventures have been some of the greatest stories of my life, and I'm glad I've gotten so many people to do it. Yesterday I even walked someone through Act IV who wasn't able to finish in time. I accept that the official storyline is over, and I'm looking forward to what the EPS, ENS, and everyone else has in store. There is an amazing foundation set, and a track record for adventures that is inspiring.

Nonchalance is dead. Long live Nonchalance!

P.S. Thanks to Jeff, Sara, Uriah, Spencer, Mars, and everyone for everything. You have created something beautiful.

Cheers to this. I for one chalk this up as one of my most memorable experiences of San Francisco.

Dear Jeff
This was your masterpiece

The Jejune Institute has cultivated a community and created a small cultural identity for those who saw it through. Nonchalance has taken hold of us and is not likely to ever let go. Thank you.

So far there's nothing with the production values and story of the Games of Nonchalance.

That said, there's other ARGs, including some locally. You can find many of them on this forum (but don't read the spoilers.)

the closest i've ever heard of is Accomplice.

http://www.accomplicetheshow.com/

it's basically a theater show that you buy tickets for that takes place with actors across a few locations around the city. the closest one to us is in hollywood. it's produced by NPH to boot.

NACHO LANCE

I TRIED TO TELL YOU FROM THE START. YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GAME, YOU HAVE TO THROW AWAY THE BOX. WE ALREADY DID THIS. THIS ALREADY HAPPENED. YOU WERE INVOLVED IN A MIND CONTROL SIMULATION DESIGNED TO SEE IF "GAMERS" WERE READY TO MAKE THE JUMP INTO BEING ACTUAL COOLONOIDS. I WAS DOING THIS WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD. GOING WHERE I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO GO. TALKING TO PEOPLE WHO WERE PROBABLY DANGEROUS. EXCHANGING PACKETS FOR PACKETS. HUNTING FOR THE BIGFOOT. GETTING ABDUCTED BY ACTUAL ALIENS. LISTENING TO PIRATE RADIO STATIONS. MAKING SECRET MARKINGS ON THE STREET. TRAINING SEAGULLS TO RETRIEVE THINGS. THIS ALREADY HAPPENED. A LONG TIME AGO. WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE MUCH YOUNGER THAN YOU. YOU'RE LATE BLOOMERS. YOU'RE CHICKEN MCNUGGETS WITH HONEY SAUCE. HONEY DIPPERS. SUCKER SIPPERS. I SAID THIS ALREADY. MKULTRA, WE TOOK IT & MADE SOMETHING OUT OF IT. WE TURNED IT INTO CULTURE. THAT'S WHAT THIS IS ABOUT. YANKEE ROSE

not your cheese

A Dream Within A Dream

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Edgar Allan Poe

I could scarcely think of a more apt way to summarize my experience with nonchalance.
