Elbrus 9K

I think Vancanek had it right in this post. I did a bit more snooping and came up with this page, which describes the project. Among other things,

Quote:
That's why their new project, Elbrus-2000 microprocessor (abbreviated as E2K) has made such a sensation. It should be the fastest microprocessor of its class at this time, and even Merced and Mc-Kinley, new powerful microprocessors, announced by Intel, seem to be three times slower!

So the E9K might be where we'd be at now if funding hadn't been cut during the nineties. I'm guessing (semi?) AI in control of their defense system... I also recall that Russian programmers were pretty hot stuff for a while, esp. at doing optimized code that could pack tons of stuff in not much space, simply because they didn't have a lot of RAM to work with. This was actually relevant when 16k of RAM was a lot to pack on a gaming cartridge. So put super fast processors together with super efficient programmers and who knows what you'd get.

There's also a link on that page to an info site for the E2K, but it's in Russian and might not be much help anyway. Just trying to figure out why this is significant to Natasha...

On the same page as pancito and Vancanek. Since the Elbrus computer powers not only the national Sovnet internet but also secret sites like the "Information warfare technology division" (props Komissar) it's location is of real strategic value.

Natasha's image suggests it's possibly a subterranean stronghold beneath an imposing government building. But where?

I followed the link and it leads to a real company from Moscow.
I can call them if you want
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
but they more than anyone seem to profit from the game we are discussing here Smile

Has anyone gotten anything in the mail? I haven't.

Also, I'm back in Bryan if I'm needed. If I don't follow quickly enough (final exam time and all), just PM me, and I'll be back in a flash.

There isnt a trio anymore, its just me. The other two are dead or are in a position to wish a quick death. This is it, the japanese stock market was hit, the first stage of the Misha Virus is out.

Why is this a concern to you? Well you can just say that Western Europe might not make it new years day.

Asked how I could help and got this reply:

At this point, I am not sure if anything can be done. Take your money out of the banks and buy a gun. just in case.
get the latest anti virus, but they arent targeting civilian computers. who knows how soon till Misha gets to NORAD.

http://sovnet-1502.t83.net/ has been updated. It now features a huge string in binary. Which is apparently in a flash file, so... it's gonna take some time.

I responded to the email from S T. Here was the response..

Quote:
My name does not matter. in fact, it will ensure that you are not traced to me. I know little of the virus itself, that link sovnet and the KGB electronic warfare unit, that was hacked and found by the best.

keep an eye on it, it might help us uncover what their plan of attack is. I dont think that the soviets will make any moves unless they can somehow neutralize the American nuclear arsenal.

I am also trying to figure out how the old pro democracy premier was deposed. most of the information is censored out.

Sorry for the quick reply. I have to do a drop for sensitive documents that should not be emailed or duplicated, as well as sending other things.

Regards

I feel like none of us were the first five to put in our addresses to get something. Seems like we would have gotten it by now. Unless that something was death and the people who got it can no longer post. Shocked

Oh my god, don't even joke like that seriously! Shocked I've had three people ring my doorbell today, I keep getting paranoid everytime I go to check who it is. Laughing

Yeah.. What's going on? Are we still waiting for something in Bryan? Whole thing has kind of been at a stand still, except the couple emails about the 'trio'.
Sad
