paintover.net/log?

http://paintover.net/log asks for a username/password and lists "private." This wasn't on our list of previously-known directories, so I thought I'd mention it.

I don't really see how this is a clue (and I don't see how any clues would have led us here, I was just trying various things to try to solve the Oct. 1 image), but I thought I'd throw it out there. Is this a common web site thing? I'm a web designer by trade, and this doesn't seem to be a typical site feature (such as an images directory or cgi-bin).

EDIT: Maybe it is something associated with the software that runs the site (the guestbook thing)?

Cool find! I don't post much on here as I'm not very good at ARGs, but I do like to browse constantly to see if there have been any updates.

I took what you found and tried something else as well. You said you found http://paintover.net/log so I thought I'd see if http://paintover.net/log/00000001.jpg exists as well. Guess what? It does. I haven't tried other files since it might be a waste of time without a username/password. Maybe some of the veterans will be able to solve this???

How do you know? Regardless of whether or not a file exists, anything you type after the "log/" will still pop up the password dialog.

Embarassed Embarassed Maybe that's why I don't post very often... Can someone delete my post then? God, I feel like a real ass now.

Edit: I see your point now, bakntime. Here's a URL I tried just to prove your point. http://paintover.net/log/asswipe.jpg It's what I feel like!

Not at all!!!! Don't even worry about that. There's no need to delete it, and don't feel bad at all. You were experimenting, and that's how discoveries are made. Don't let it stop you from posting your thoughts or ideas you might have!

Don't be embarassed! I'm lucky that my husband is a programmer, so I was able to ask such things easily. =)

But, it is very possible this is just a typical web site thing. Perhaps related to the software installed to run the guestbook or something else.

Because there were no obvious clues to point to it, it doesn't seem like it would be something we were meant to find. Although, perhaps it is, who knows!

Maybe now we need to go searching to find the clue that points here, so we would have a starting place for username/password hunt?

BUT, first I'd like to hear from the experts (BrianEngima *wink*) as to whether or not this is most likely a web software/server related directory.

well, so far, everytime we have seen 'private' as the realm to login to, it always has been just that, private.. If one looks at the two discovered but not yet live web sites, they both say private also.. :-/ If I recall correctly, none of the ingame directories have had the 'private' realm..

BUT.. this could mean that this directory was found prematurely, and may come live later..

That's a really great point YeahYeah! If it was something that was 'supposed' to be found, it would have some cute realm like cassius or whatever.

So we'll just push it to the back of our minds. =)
