Twitter Users Banned For Violating Intellectual Property?

Since a lot of you (me too!) use Twitter, and most of us know what a gamejack is, this article from Webware is very interesting indeed.

(1) In regards to the Marvel guy: In the past year, I myself registered a domain URL that was used within the context of a television show (I got the URL when the show aired!) and have witnessed many times where unsecured assets were snatched up by players of the game / consumers of the product. I think he was smart to do what he did, actually -- as smart as the person who registered obamabiden.com in 2006. Smile

(2) In regards to the Madmen thing... yikes. Sorry for all of you game designers who are planning to use Twitter in your projects that are inspired by a film, a band, a television show, a play, a musical, etc. And what does this mean for fanfic writers who use Twitter as a delivery mechanism (if those people indeed exist)?

Discuss at your leisure.

Isn't this what caused Ariock to become Ari0ck on Twitter?

I wonder if just how detrimental that could become. What if someone sends twitter a notice such as that without any actual legal basis, and twitter takes them down?

It looks like the Mad Men characters are back on Twitter.

Quote:
Update 4: The suspended Mad Men accounts have been restored. Apparently, Deep Focus, AMC's web marketing group persuaded the cable channel that free promotion is a good thing, according to Silicon Alley Insider. A tough sell, I know.

I know it's fan fiction, but what are your thoughts on using Twitter in this case if it was for an official ARG? Could you overlook the fact that characters are using Twitter when the TV show is set in the 1960's as long as they stayed "in character"?

Also, can anyone point me to a game that has used Friendfeed or Twitter/Pownce/ Plurk in an interesting way? Friendfeed seems like a decent way to build up a profile of a character from a number of sites and I was just wondering if anybody had used it. I haven't played a game in ages (since Benjamin Stove) and was hoping somebody might be able to point me in the right direction

I don't want to hijack the thread, but would anybody be interested in contributing to a Reddit.com subreddit for ARG's? Reddit has a large existing community, so I thought it might be a cool way to build up some more interest in the genre and share a few links with people who are interested. I've already submitted a few links, but it would be nice to share some relevant links with anybody who is interested. Link for the group below

All I know is that Betty Draper is now following me on Twitter, and she's dreamy!

Twitter doesn't have ready access to lawyers? Holy cow.

I guess the intellectual property issues are easy for them to resolve - big company or someone with a lawyer complains, take down the account.

Further reading on Twitter makes it seem they have bigger problems with scalability and user retention. Some people (wrongly I hope) say twitter can't survive. I guess we will see how this works out over time.

It's the old MySpace dilemma. While Twitter is horrible (getting better, but still horrible), that's what everyone is using, despite there being tons of better and more stable services out there. I'd use Brightkite in a heartbeat, for example, but only have 4 or 5 friends who are using it, so it's basically not useful at this point.

That's mainly because it's on invite-only beta. Which means that not many people can use it. Twitter, on the other hand, is free to register for anyone.

What about Pownce? It's free, and it seems pretty stable...

It is?? I thought the iPhone app changed that.

Pownce is good too, for now. I was on earlier and had to quit because almost every friend request was spam...
