[TRAILHEAD] Adam Worsley

I feel special Smile Someone named "worsleyadam" on AIM dropped a trailhead. Here's my chat with him:

Quote:
11:20:09 PM worsleyadam: Please help me...
11:20:15 PM redcti: Who are you?
11:20:22 PM worsleyadam: My name is Adam Worsley.
11:20:51 PM redcti: What's going on? How would you be able to help me?
11:20:54 PM redcti: Whoops
11:20:57 PM redcti: I be able to help you
11:21:20 PM worsleyadam: I found a letter signed by my mother who I haven't seen since I was two years old but I can't make out what it says.... There are just these weird jumbled letters... I wish someone could help me figure this out. It might be my only chance to learn something about my mother.
You can find the letter on my myspace account myspace.com/aworsley. It's in my blog titled behind the picture frame.
11:21:33 PM redcti: Taking a look right now
11:21:38 PM worsleyadam: thank you.
11:21:42 PM redcti: Anything else?
11:21:59 PM worsleyadam: no just thank you
11:22:07 PM redcti: When will I be able to contact you?
11:22:15 PM redcti: If I find anything out, that is
11:22:28 PM worsleyadam: this is my aim and we can talk on myspace as well if you'd like
11:22:34 PM redcti: I don't have an account
11:22:43 PM redcti: I'm one of those that hate myspace, but love facebook Wink
11:23:04 PM worsleyadam: my email address is worsleyadamSPLATyahoo.com
11:23:07 PM redcti: Thanks Smile
11:23:22 PM redcti: So, is that it?
11:23:44 PM redcti: I'm going to bed in 10 minutes, so I probably won't talk to you until tomorrow
11:23:57 PM worsleyadam: I have no idea what the letter means. I just found it.
11:24:05 PM redcti: You say it's your mother's?
11:24:10 PM worsleyadam: ok we'll talk tommorow
11:24:19 PM worsleyadam: i think so it has her name at the bottom of the page
11:24:35 PM redcti: So her name is Catherine Worsley?
11:24:55 PM worsleyadam: Her name was catherine worsley
11:25:02 PM worsleyadam: she died when i was 2
11:25:21 PM redcti: That is never a good way to know your parents... only two years
11:25:42 PM worsleyadam: yea i hardly remmember her.... just from pictures i've seen
11:25:49 PM redcti: Just one more random question: Why are all your pictures sepia? Is it your style?
11:26:10 PM worsleyadam: it's my style for now... I like to switch every once in a while
11:26:56 PM redcti: I do a bit of (amateur) photography myself... nothing special: low-end DSLR
11:27:07 PM redcti: Landscape and nature photography
11:27:07 PM worsleyadam: awesome
11:27:11 PM redcti: Anyways
11:27:14 PM redcti: Hope to see you tomorrow
11:27:15 PM redcti: Bye Smile
11:27:23 PM worsleyadam: night

So, it's a secret coded message. The picture can be found on his MySpace blog here: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=228759686

I'm going to bed right now (guy caught me just as I was logging off), so I haven't had time to look through the pictures. I'll bet that one's Stegged though. Can anyone check? Hoping stuff will be solved by the morning Wink

QUICK UPDATE: Asked about things important to "Catherine" as that can be useful as passwords, etc.

Quote:
11:33:42 PM redcti: Is there anything that had a special significance to your mother (as you know)? It's common for things like that to be used as keys to encryption/ciphers
11:34:09 PM worsleyadam: from what I hear she was very beautiful... and she loved to sing
11:34:34 PM redcti: and, are those things that look like q with the dash through them q or g?
11:35:08 PM worsleyadam: I'm not sure. It looks like a q

[edit - put the conversation in
to help it stand out from any of your own thoughts posted - kona]

This is funny how fast I'm going through this... but I think it was Caesar (sp?) Cipher.

With the key of "Catherine": Thin gentlemen aid foy fawn. rifling titan thought her a mess. proof curt germ on vents.

It's sort of nonsense, but I don't think it's a coincidence that it's in English...

EDIT: If you're wondering, foy:
1. Chiefly Scot. a farewell gift, feast, or drink.
2. faith.

According to Adam, she's American/British.

so glad i wasn't the only one to get this XD

I worked the nonsense words out to be:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Anagrams, first of all, and the number of underlines under a group of words shows how many words it has to become:

thin gentlement (1) - enlightenment
aid foy fawn (4) - find a way of
rifling titan (1) - infiltrating
thought her (2) - through the
a mess (1) - seams
proof curt (2) - of corrupt
germ on vents (1) - governments

so: enlightenment find a way of infiltrating through the seams of corrupt governments

Not certain I have every word right. Smile

EDIT: I've also told him this. And I'm going to read through the IM conversation and see if I got anything significant.

EDIT2: Okay, so after I told him that, he said he would talk to his grandfather:

Quote:
Adam Worsley: but can this be a letter from my mother? i was hoping for her to mention something about me
Me: well, it's pretty brief... and probably out of context Razz
Adam Worsley: hmm ok
Me: do you know what your mother's handwriting looked like?
Adam Worsley: no i dont
Me: hmm
Me: because it is signed by her, but her name was the password, and considering how odd and out of context the letter seems to be, there may be a small possibility that it wasn't your mother who wrote it
Me: but at the very least it's a connection to her
Adam Worsley: ok do you think i should ask my granfather about it tommorow?
Me: that sounds like a good idea
Adam Worsley: but i think he would get angry knowing that i was going through his things... and that strange almost threatening text you uncovered...
Me: maternal grandfather, i'm assuming Razz
Adam Worsley: yes
Me: well, i don't know your grandfather, but... surely he'd understand you wanting to know more about your mother, personal property aside?
Adam Worsley: ok i'll speak to him tommorow he's asleep now

And this doesn't seem significant to me, but even so:

Quote:
Adam Worsley: what do you think it could mean?
Me: sounds kind of like revolutionary stuff
Adam Worsley: like the revolutionary war?
Me: 'infiltrate corrupt governments'
Me: not the American one, in 1983
Adam Worsley: right

EDIT#3: another brief bit of conversation

Quote:
Adam Worsley: hmmm... could it maybe be enlightenment find(s) a way of infiltrating through the seams of corrupt governments? that would make a little more sense no?
Me: yeah
Adam Worsley: Wink
Me: i don't see it in what was written, but
Adam Worsley: hmmm maybe

Oh, suspicious looking wink...

[edit - great job spoiling the puzzle solve; I put your conversations in quotes to help them stand out from your own comments (dialogue is never a spoiler - folks need to read that in order to know what is going on) - kona]

EDIT: Thanks. Smile

As a quick comment - I woke up this morning to the same IM, with the same "Please help me". However, I didn't have time to do anything with it (or, for that matter, even finish reading this thread). Will catch up later.

Another conversation with him:

Quote:
redcti: Well, if you take it literally "find a way of infiltrating through the seams of corrupt governments" would basically mean "find a way to get into a corrupt government covertly" or somehow unnoticeably
10:20:58 AM redcti: "through the seams" , through the cracks, how ever you want to think about it
10:21:22 AM worsleyadam: hmm... but why would my mother say these things?
10:21:38 AM worsleyadam: i guess i know her less now that what i thought i did
10:21:51 AM redcti: I know you didn't know her well, but you could ask your grandfather. He was her father after all
10:21:59 AM redcti: Was she an activist sort of person?
10:22:24 AM worsleyadam: i have no idea but i will ask him later on today
10:22:29 AM worsleyadam: he's not home right now
10:22:32 AM redcti: OK
10:22:42 AM redcti: Maybe she knew something that others didn't... whistleblower?
10:22:47 AM redcti: I have no idea personally
10:23:07 AM worsleyadam: i really think i shouldn't menthion the letter i found i'll just ask about my mother
10:23:24 AM redcti: OK
10:23:29 AM redcti: Just a question
10:23:33 AM worsleyadam: yes?
10:24:02 AM redcti: I can't quite tell, but on your myspace:
10:24:11 AM redcti: What's your that little profile picture of yours
10:24:35 AM worsleyadam: it's a photograph by cartier bresson
10:25:01 AM redcti: What's the title?
10:25:18 AM worsleyadam: let me look it up hold on
10:25:22 AM redcti: OK Smile
10:27:32 AM worsleyadam: hmmm... not sure he usually didn't title them so i dint think this one has a title

I couldn't find the picture or title, but if we can find it, maybe it has some significance.

Any luck on the stego either?

[edit - quoted the conversation to make it stand out from your thoughts. it's easy - selected the text and then click the "Quote" button above the text window - or you start the section with
and end it with
- kona]

EDIT: Thanks Kona Smile

You know, I just noticed that one of Adam's friends is Brent from this ARG: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20636

Plus, the theme seems to be similar: "His aunt recently died, and bequeathed him a strange letter."

Adam: "His mother died when he was young and he found a strange letter from her"

Connection?

Another chat with Adam.
Quote:
redcti Hi
redcti Anything new? Did you talk to your grandfather
worsleyadam: yes
redcti What did he say
redcti If anything
worsleyadam: it's on the blog
redcti k
redcti Yikes, that's disturbing
worsleyadam: yea... weird
redcti Fitted suits and canes?
worsleyadam: yea
redcti Why does that conjure up an image of "men in black", except older?
worsleyadam: lol
redcti Really:
redcti Do you know anything that could be happening in Philly?
worsleyadam: Not really.... I work in the news business but I'm not uptodate on anything out side NY
redcti rofl
redcti mt
redcti wrong person
worsleyadam: oh ok
redcti Not saying it's funny
redcti Did you see what they looked like? Besides fitted suits+canes
worsleyadam: They were older men, on the heavy side, very wrinkled
redcti When you say "we believe to be true is only what we are allowed to believe is true"
redcti rather your grandfather did
redcti That sounds like some sort of conspiracy...
worsleyadam: hmmm.... i never thought of my grandfather to be involved in a conspiracy... he wouldn't at least i don't think he would
redcti Don't know why this pops to mind, but it reminds me of this show "The Unit". They're part of an elite military unit, but they're just normal people with jobs to their loved ones
redcti "we believe to be true is only what we are allowed to believe is true"
redcti sorta fits
worsleyadam: hmmm never heard of it
redcti Oh well... found anything new besides this latest event
worsleyadam: well i am thinking about sneaking into the back room and trying to figure out what they were in there for
redcti Is your grandfather gone?
worsleyadam: yes he left a while ago
redcti I don't see why you'd have to sneak into the back room
redcti Unless they set up a trap in there lol
worsleyadam: LOL
worsleyadam: Well i mean just in case he returns i don't know
redcti Well, Philly isn't exactly next door to your house
redcti I doubt you'll have to worry
redcti But listen for the door
worsleyadam: right but also it's my grandfather... i dont like to cheat him and what if he forgot something and returns for it only to catch me in his "secret room"
redcti OK
redcti I see
redcti Two more things
redcti 1: did those men have any sort of badge, ID, card etc
redcti did you see their car?
redcti have any idea where they're from?
worsleyadam: no idea... didn't think to look for a car
worsleyadam: my grandfather seemed to know them so.... i guess they were ok
redcti OK
redcti 1.5 (lol): be enlightenment find(s) a way of infiltrating through the seams of corrupt governments
redcti That sounds a lot like some sort of conspiracy to me
redcti But I'm that type of person too Wink
worsleyadam: ?
redcti when we decoded your mother's letter
redcti be enlightenment find(s) a way of infiltrating through the seams of corrupt governments
redcti no be, actually
redcti That sounds like some sort of conspiracy to me: infiltrating a corrupt government
worsleyadam: wow that sounds heavy
worsleyadam: but do you think my mother was involved in this conspiracy?
redcti No idea
redcti Just throwing ideas around currently
redcti And last:
redcti Noticed one of your friends is Brent Ambroise
redcti That name sounds vaguely familiar
worsleyadam: yea i don't know him he just added me
worsleyadam: and i accepted
redcti K
redcti Well, that's all I can think of
redcti I'll still be on a while

His blog post:

Quote:
So I spoke with my grandfather today. I asked him to tell me anything he knew about my mother. He was kind of cold with me. He told me that I knew everything I need to know about her and that he wished not to speak of her. I pressed him some more for information but couldn't get much out of him. The only thing that I think might be important that he mentioned was something about how what we believe to be true is only what we are allowed to believe is true. I don't know what he meant by that but it really freaked me out.

Later on today some strange men came over. They wore fitted suits and walked with canes. They wore hats on their heads and did not speak a word to me as I greeted them at the door. My grandfather lead them to the back room and they locked themselved in there for a few hours. They left just as quietly as they had entered and I noticed my grandfather seemed upset. He came to me and told me he was leaving. He was traveling to Philadelphia but did not mention when he planned on returning. That was all. And then he was gone.

[edit - no reason to spoiler a blog post, just quote it. save the spoiler's for puzzle solves. actually, a link to the blog is always nice for folks to click on and "see for themselves" in case they haven't bookmarked the page - thanks, kona]

Another update:
Quote:

Tabacco Smoke In "Secret Rooms"?

I went into the back room:

The moment I stepped into the room my senses were assaulted by the aromatic tabacco smoke that still lingered. This room seemed gloomier then the rest. There was a twin bed neatly made on one side and a card table with four chairs at the other. The wooden floor was waxed and the window was covered by black drapery, taped onto the wall. At first I didn't notice anything. But after some searching in drawers and under the bed I noticed a box lodged between the wall and the bed railing. A blue box. Inside the box I found a wedding ring with a strange symbol on it and a battered old piece of paper. On the paper again were some weird codes and two other things. A bible passage reference and Joseph Stalin?

I'll copy the note on here so you guys can see it.

Matthew 21:42

1. TNVB FYSWXSLMC

2. VCUAACE COWRJGB

3. VHSGKQV TTKZG

4. RZDATBPG VHSGIUPG

5. YAWG XTDMAKH

6. FZAGFZ FSYXQDFCAD

7. JAESWO HYVDTD

8. VUZPYCZG MHAEWZG

9. CBAHCB F ROZX

"QB QAZVGC BSECZG HXA BZZ MYCMUY RACYQ VAG EXZF

VUFSIW PZEZ VZJ JW."

-Joseph Stalin

I hope I copied everything down correctly. Please. Can anyone please help me?

I also got a MSG from Adam, an currently talking to him though I am leaving for a bit. He says he will take a picture of the ring for us but we will have to wait till he gets them developed. Personally I think the new code are cryptograms.. I'll try in a bit if no one else wants too.

EDIT: Okay talking to Adam again and he is thinking about calling/texting information to us because he is afraid that 'they' being the men his Grandfather met with are trying to stop him from getting the info out. For those who maybe don't want to give out numbers, he says he can do email. Also to pass info between ourselves and possibly him to use a code only 'we' know...

What do you guys think?

EDITx2: Here is Adam's email worsleyadamSPLATyahoo.com and he says if we don't mind with phone numbers or emails if we wouldn't mind giving general postal codes for 'game interaction purposes.' lol
