Stopped by the Institute for Human Continuity's main site today... a LOT of new material there. Disaster simulations, survival initiatives, staff bios, news feeds, etc. etc. etc. And, of course, the Lottery.

It's pretty damn impressive. I hope this continues to evolve!

Elite fencer, i dont think you are late at all. So far, not much game
activity has happened yet.
Has anyone found any interaction leads on the page? there is plenty of information , certainly, and quite well presented, imho. Smile
Most tweets and mails get no reply yet, however. Is the Dr. back in office?

This IHC site is being displayed on the front page of myspace, so it's sure bound to catch a lot of attention. Well, it's how I came across it. Very convincing site. I remember the catch line for the film "2012" is "How would the government prepare six billion people for the end of the world? They wouldn't", so obviously I had known it was viral marketing and had to come here and see if there had been a thread on it and wa-la (Haven't posted here, much, tried to get into a few ARG's but most were in too deep to catch up and the ones just beginning were becoming very dead). Anyway, I've been interested in the whole 2012 scenario for the longest time and I definitely want to follow this.

Also, just to clear some 2012 information up. The Mayans stated the this current 'age' will end on December 21st, 2012 (Which, of course, the site says the 12th of December. A typo, or something). Nothing catastrophic is specifically set for that date. They do claim the world to end (maybe just as we know it), and their end of the world scenario does revolve around 2012, but don't be afraid to wake up the 21st. The easiest way to remember that it's the 21st is that it's the Winter Solstice. Smile

[offtopic] I've always wondered about all the set dates for apocalypse theories. Were they trying to tell us that the world would be done and gone on that date or does the beginning of the end of the world start then. Because barring a REALLY big meteor or like the planet exploding, I really doubt that the world is just going to "end" on that one day. And while we're on it, does anyone know if that date was adjusted for the numerous calendar switches throughout history?

And what is this business with predicting the end of the world anyway. It's like some palm reader telling you that in 20 years you'll find your ideal partner. In 20 years, you're sure as heck not going to remember if it doesn't happen!

You know what? I'm making a prediction right now. On Vrishika 28th in the year 5076, the known world is going to reach its full saturation point of super-speed mice and jellyfish monkeys. Having been hunted to extinction for millennia, the human race will die off once and for all. But don't worry, the cow-people will carry on our memory. Of course, only after they're done battling the legions of spider goats. Be sure to stick around and find out! [/rant]

Don't mind me, I think I'm just here to amuse myself. Laughing

But really...I'm Not Making This Up

So far I've only seen the Solar Flare disaster scenario, but that was scary enough :/

I like how the guy who voices it has a very soothing voice, like he's saying, "Yeah, the earth will be bathed in radiation in three years, but it's okay! Everything will be fine!"

i bet the game is gonna be a lot better than the movie. I personally don't like disaster flicks as they all tend to take on the same tone (someone leading a group of survivors around in a futile attempt to stay alive and then against all odds they do live.)

as far as 2012 is concerned.. There actually is confusion over whether it is the 12th of Dec or 21st. I personally think 21st makes sense cuz its the solstice, therefore actually being the completion of a small cycle (earth around the sun) lining up with a big cycle (our sun around the galaxy).
I doubt the world ends its more likely no more significant than galactic new years day. However it could be the long count for a collision with a meteor or other planet. Which would make sense do the cosmological significance of a disaster of that nature. That and it would require knowing the time lengths of various orbits to predict such a thing.

To my knowledge and gut instinct, I don't believe that the world will end. I do believe that our notion of Time will change. The Mayans call it the end of time not the end of the world. Just like Donnie Darko, a mastery of time would allow movement between parallel universes. Also, as space and time are not only relative (according to einstein anyway) they are also different aspects of the same thing (think spacetime, aka the fabric of the universe/multiverse. ). As one moves through space one is simultaneously moving through time. If one could be in all Times simultaneously than one would also be free to be in any place. Instantaneous travel. Its really the only feasible way to think of traveling to star systems that are light years away. Not without spending the entire GDP of the world would we ever come up with a Ship that could get us there, and even then we'd still prolly be stuck in our isolated rural part of the galaxy. So in brief conclusion i think the real idea behind 2012 is that those of us who manage the transition will become galactic citizens and those of us that perish will simply reincarnated as the children of those who didn't. I realize that that is quite a leap but it is more than possible that i'm not the only person to come up with that idea. Evolution apparently happens in relatively short spurts from time to time given a drastic enough catalyst.

Yeah

This website is a disgusting play on peoples emotions and should be absolutely abolished. A movie advertisement should not have the domain of an organization because there are going to be unknowing believers in what this website promotes. Not only does this encourage fear of a doomsday that will never exist, this promotes distrust in our governments, and MOST IMPORTANTLY this is a fake organization that is promising fake protection.

Fuck all of you who designed this ridiculous movie advertisement, fuck the studio for making the film, fuck the people who allowed this website to go up, fuck the person who is reading this, and fuck the writers for being satisfied that this is creating such a stir and controversy.

notice in the planet x simulation if you keep the slider towards min. and only space debris hits the planet, that the building doesn't collapse even though its upper stories are on fire (huh).

seriously though, that was a joke, don't get pissed I'm not a conspiracy nut, more of a seed.

i agree.. ARG is a fun idea but if its just gonna be a marketing ploy as opposed to simple gaming entertainment i don't want any part, unless it has Nine Inch Nails music.

To quote the late great Bill Hicks:
"All of you people who work in marketing and are here tonight, do us a favor and kill yourself. Seriously that wasn't a joke, kill yourself. Now back to the show."
