That's funny. I tried this a few days ago, and it wasn't accessible at all. I think it's still "in game", as they suggested we "take a closer look" at the site...

Oh, nice catch, that might have been what they were talking about afterall.

Maybe. The site is hosted on a shared host and it's not uncommon for those to have ftp open for admin. It also looks like the default behavior of the ftp server is to say 'ok' to any username versus bouncing you at that point if it's not valid. 'foo' returns the same ok on username.

But if you're saying it wasn't responding before and suddenly appeared, well, that's another thing.

The other password clue we had revolved around the flickr account but it was that the other MTC members didn't know the password of the account holder so they could remove the book images. Finding that might grant ingress.

I've been thinking about this... If the FTP is there now, it probably always was. Maybe I was doing something wrong... BUT, yeah, it probably exists for administration.

However...the site, from what I could find, has no other indexable pages. There's also no robots.txt on the site at all... So, if anything else is there, I'd think it's just a collection of files. I don't think we're going to be able to find anything they don't want us to find, because they could just upload whatever they want to at the time they'd like it to show up. Likely, nothing of much value is stored on the server...

I could be wrong, as always...

It's been up for for a long time. I almost stayed up all night last week while trying to bruce force the password for the "terry" account, until I realized the FTP server accepts anything as a valid username.

LoL. Yeah, I went back thru my ftp program's history. I was definitely, and inexplicably, spelling Milwaukee incorrectly. Don't know how... I'm gonna go sulk for a bit.

Wo cang" and then it transfers to the desk of Michael Lewis

We're not sure on the exactness of the Chinese at the end, but Wo cang seems to mean "to harbor" or "to shelter," so maybe some kind of warning to stay safe? Does anyone know what that bit is/has anyone already covered this? (Sorry guys, 77 pages is a lot to go through)

Sorry to repost this but I'm really curious to know what this Chinese means! I know either someone on here was translating Chinese from the video earlier or it was on the SA board, but I don't have an account there.. If anyone here does, could they crosspost it there to ask?

(B)eta? Marquette?

Beta? The trio of professional women are listed in the credits as Alpha, Beta and Gamma, which may be relevant to:

...
Edit: I just had this revalation almost! Stalin! He made the trains run on time and he was infamous for throwing people in the gulag! Apparently Black Star made the roads and there's that one scene where the guy says "throw him to the godseed fragment". Maybe I'm just crazy?

Actually, I think that was Mussolini who "made the trains run on time", but it fits in with Terry Nanny = tyranny and the sense that Blackstar is authoritarian and propagandistic.

And I just quoted the Streetcar Shuffle posture correlation because that seemed significant. To what exactly, I know not. Laughing

I used to work for a major medical electronics company called Marquette Electronics that was based in Wisconsin. They were eventually bought by GE.

The font used on the cover of the Reasonable Haven booklet is very close if not the same as Marquette's. I've been looking and I wish I could find a better example but I swear it's almost the same font...

Marquette University is located in downtown Milwaukee, right about where the largest building is in the TIMM.com "postcard" background image. There's a large freeway "knot" interchange there that just got rebuilt IRL, called the Marquette Interchange. Marquette is also a decent-sized town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

I think someone over at the SA board mentioned it being possible that they just started with one video for the hell of it and then made up all this other stuff as they went along because people caught on?

Another piece of evidence against that idea is that the second video released sure looks like it was shot during the summer months, so this has been planned for a while.

Story about some communities to print local currency in Milwaukee... I don't think it has anything to do with the game, but I thought it might be amusing what with the DarkDollar thing going on

I've noticed that we still don't have a map of Milwaukee yet.

You'd think that if they're trying to recruit tourists/residents, they'd make one available somewhere.

Maybe we just need to ask?

I emailed mike asking for a map... I have no idea if I'm going to get one though. Wouldn't hurt for others to ask as well Smile

Lovecraft

First post, first ARG, blah blah. I'll make an account here ASAP, but I've been lurking trying to get caught up for 3 days, and want to get something out for discussion.

For those of you that may still be entertaining the Lovecraftian ideas about this, (I know I have been) I happen to have a copy of the Necronomicon which I love dearly and have read several times through. Lots of things mentioned have reminded me of Cthulu, so I figured I'd mention some things about the book. I don't have the book with me currently as I come to my mom's house to get online, because I'm too dirt poor to afford internet.

"The number square of mars having five rows and five columns each with the sum of 65 and the sum of the whole square as a whole is 325"
- when engraved in iron and wore around the neck this is supposed to (Now this is just my remembering, it may not be exact) give you greater chances of victory in battle and.....I think something along the lines either improving your skill in archery, or improve your chance of not getting hit by an archer.
(Thought it might help out with the 5x5 grid in the information packet thing)

Cthulu is, according to the Necronomicon, deep underwater, entombed in the sunken city of R'lyeh. R'lyeh was sunken after a great cataclysm of some sort, though I don't remember who or what it was brought on by. Cthulu slumbers in non-death and yet also non-existance, ever dreaming of the day when the stars will align in a way that is not poisonous to his or the other Old Ones' earthly bodies.

At times the alignment of the stars becomes somewhat weaker, allowing Cthulu to send his thoughts out to his followers, and they do his bidding until the alignment of the stars becomes again very poisonous to him.

His tomb in the sunken R'lyeh is too deep for any human to reach, and even then the inscription upon the tombs' doors keeps a magical field upon it.

This is all from memory, as I said, but this is how I remember it being. Should anyone want me to look for anything in the Necronomicon, post up what you want checked and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Hopefully this has either given some clues as to what's going on, or helped exclude any Lovecraft links. If I've done or posted something I shouldn't have, make sure and let me know so I won't do it again.

I live in the area where they are trying to print local currency...it's really happening. I was hoping it was a DD thing though too

today i was looking at the picture of the family tree, i blew up the image because i wanted to screen print it on a t- shirt Smile

Anyway i know its been discussed before but piece at the top is clearly not a part of the family tree. It looks like something else entirely. I think this must be relevant to the game, it is even shown colored two different colors in the activity room.

I traced the piece with tracing paper at different rotations (old school i know, i'm not that tech savvy) and tried to make it work with maps, it doesn't seem to be shaped like Milwaukee, Wisconsin, or any of the great lakes. I have not tried it with the in game map. Anyway i was hoping someone else would have an idea. Maybe the colors are important?

sorry i wanted to put pictures in but i have no idea how Sad

I believe that they are Go.S.E.E.D fragments. I have a theory that the family trees are used to capture or hold the fragments. In a phone call with mike russo he mentions that if you are in a safe area, the fragments will go underground when they see people...or something like that, and we all know that family trees are meant to be underground. Plus they just look like the godseed fragments from the video. I really think that godseed fragments/family trees tie into some "alternative" energy source or something along those lines.

Heya, lurker/n00b here. Just thought I'd say hi, rather than hiding in the shadows. Not too late to join in on this one I hope?
