I was the guy who ran the decompiler back in the beginning. I'm no expert, but I know enough to get around.

I wouldn't be surprised if they hid something so that decompiling it wouldn't be obvious.

Eh, maybe, but you can't really bury stuff too much, otherwise how will your computer know what to do with it?

I ran through the code again today to make sure they didn't change files on us, and it's exactly the same as it was in November.

I'm guessing those weird results you guys are getting are overflow or related errors, as I see nothing in the code that would do anything in the year 2000, or really any year besides 2009. The code is a little more robust than what I would use, but that could just mean that they used a countdown generating utility. As far as I can tell, it's just counting down to noon (per the local clock), Jan. 16, 2009.

If anyone really wants the code step-through, I can type it up, but the only dates in the code anywhere are 1/26/2009 and 12/25/(current year). The 12/25 seems to be a default time if the counter doesn't, for some reason, have a date to count down to - almost as if they modified a Christmas countdown file.

And that's about it - I'm calling it overflow issues, plain and simple.

timer analysis

The timer code does look sufficiently not special actually. It makes sense to me except I don't know what the XML stuff is doing. It also may be interesting to note that it mentions December 25 (0 hours 0 minutes) as the default event time (they overwrite it with January 16th 2009 at 12:00:00), although my guess is that it's just left over from them taking the timer code from something else.

Also note there should be more actionscript than those 2 files for this timer to work, but it's probably not relevent. It may just call getCurrentTime() in a loop on a different frame that I don't have the actionscript for.

Why the timer rolls over by 65 and 100:
One thing the timer does is assume the event year is the next year the event happens. For example, if the event happens Jan 16, 2009, and it's Jan 17, 2009, the timer will start looking at Jan 16, 2010. Then of course it's only showing 2 digits for the days. It rolls over to 65, because there are 365 days in a year and it only shows the last 2 digits. Similarly it will next be 00 when there are really 300 days left. Which will roll over to what appeared to be 100 days because we just see 99:24:59. So in this way it's always gonna be rolling over 65 or 100.

Why the real-world day to counter day ratio changes:
When setting the 3 characters they keep for days (they only display 2), they index characters in the string like an array. This will only work correctly for 3 digit days or less. If it uses 4 digits, it will use the 3 most significant digits, displaying the 2nd and 3rd most significant digits. (Example: 1234 days and counting would be shown as 23 days).

Mad grr, buggy misleading timer (ok, so hardly anyone was misled besides me Embarassed )

This doesn't necessarily mean the timers not important beyond reaching January 16th, 2009. I could easily imagine them using the 6 digit timestamp of a given date as another hidden webpage or something like that. That's why I said something could be burried in the timer and we wouldn't know it from the code. But now I am with the crowd on guessing that the timer is just a timer, largely because it looks like they just threw it together from a previous counter.

im pretty sure this is a (slightly) modified version of this flash/actionscript:

http://www.brandspankingnew.net/archive/2005/06/flashactionscri.html

If you think you are missing anything, download that zip and decompile it. I do not have flash installed on my work machine (which is where I am now, working hard as ever Razz ) so I can't look into it right now. I think the roll over days and subsequent dates have nothing to do with the game, it's just a script designed to offer one thing and one thing only, a singular date to countdown to and bugs out once that's date is past.

Folks, I think you're focussing too much on the ACT 2.

It's very possible that there is still one piece left to be found this week. Also, considering that the person who found and shared the SF drop is not someone actively ARG'ing here, they may have lost a piece of the drop, or other missing things.

At this point we're waiting for the 16th. MTC has already said in other forums "If you like m-rotors, check out our site when the counter runs out" or something to that effect.

After the timer runs out, we will probably have a much clearer picture on whether or not the there's a drop on the 17th.

What!?! There was a SF drop? How did I miss this? I know there are like a million TIMM threads now, but still, that's big and I've been actively watching all the threads.

Can someone tell me what I have apparently missed in regards to this drop and what was found?

Should the concept of dogs at all grow prevalent somewhere?

the "cool dog" heart/fennel image
Leading into the "Teenagers" section he is standing in front of a building that has a "Warning, protected by guard dogs" and then we see the first cool dog "fennel" image in the trash when they say "church"

It just felt a bit repetitive.. but i'm likely reading FAR too into it.. i'm still playing catch up, so forgive me if i'm being repetitive. >_<

It did become legal to make absinthe in the US pretty recently (last year or two, I think.) I guess it's possible this whole thing is a campaign for a new brand of absinthe. Maybe it's a new Miller product. Wink

That would me unbelievably happy.

I thought you might like that.

actually it's noon local time, and since the whole thing takes place in nyc, I think it's safe to assume it's noon EST. Which is an hour and 5 minutes Smile

If it's Milwaukee time, then it's 2 hours...

Well the timer says 000000. But nothing is different on the site I don't think.

Edit: Awwwww, the fuck? There's a new timer up now. It's 64 23 58.

We've still got an hour here in EST -- considering TIMM's strong NYC presence, I'm expecting something at that time.
