Has anyone asked our new friend Joey about Sector 21?

There's a red star at the subglasses vendor as well...

NYPLRRRAIHHD

not sure yet on the RRR (not the same as *R-RMRR) or the "H"HD

AI8? Dunno

It may also be worth point out that, after the RRR, the '198HD' could be SHHD. Or, and I'm thinking this is likely, the HD actually translates back to letters... so, 84.

84 could represent a page number, or a year. Running *R-RMRR AI3.A23 through the NYPL Database shows that the call number has a volume range between 1976 and 1985. So maybe the 1984 volume?

Also (and complete speculation)-if 198 does equal SH, SH could be shorthand for shelf... just trying every library angle I can think of... Dunno

If "RRR" is "Rose Reading Room", the place looks pretty enormous - http://www.nypl.org/research/chss/grd/rosemain.html
It's possible that the numbers/letters after it are a more specific direction towards what we're looking for...

EDIT :: DUH! I just noticed this on that webpage...
"Computers providing access to the Internet are also available in the South Hall of the Rose Main Reading Room. "

Rose Reading Room, South Hall.... HD?

AHA! When I looked up the call number- *R-RMRR AI3 .A23 - It said that this was available in the 'main reading room'. Didn't know that it was also called the "Rose" Main Reading Room. Which, of course, is RMRR!

And I still think HD = 84, so perhaps that's the volume were looking for.

I think you might be right there. It does seem like it may be referring to the year of the publication.
So we potentially know what publication we're looking for, the particular year we want, and the room it can be found in...
Any New Yorkers got time to go check it out maybe? Smile

In reference to the red star on the bag, I think it's just a Macy's shopping bag.

So, AI3.A23 is the NYPL call # to Access:The Supplementary Index to Periodicals. This magazine apparently indexes paragraphs from other magazines, one of which is Milwaukee Magazine...

What time is it in New York at the moment? There were some other NY people in the thread earlier saying they might be able to go and check it out.

Interesting. Looking further into this, I found that The Supplementary Index to Periodicals only indexed Milwaukee Magazine from '86 onwards... so, if Milwaukee Magazine is important, 84 couldn't be a volume number. And if '84 is the volume number, Milwaukee Magazine would have to be unrelated.
