see this is what i'm wondering too. i did a little investigation on the PO box thing this morning. the thing that i found strange was that the box is numbered in the 500,000s. that seems odd since the box is at the Juneau facility, one of two Milwaukee Post Offices. i find it hard to believe that there are 500,000 PO boxes even counting both Milwaukee facilities. i mean, the total population of Milwaukee proper is only 602,782 and the Milwaukee–Racine–Waukesha Metropolitan Area has a population of 1,964,744. but who knows the numbering system of the boxes.

First of all, I'm not sure why you refer to the Juneau Station as being one of two Milwaukee post offices. There are at least five. As for the numbering goes, they are not numbered 000001 through whatever, so the PO Box number does not correspond to the amount of PO Boxes that exist in Milwaukee.

Neumann!

seriously, do you have anything significant to offer? as i said earlier, who knows how the boxes are numbered?

what is the numbering system if you have knowledge?

nice positive, yo.

peace...

Still no info-packets I see? Mike and Joey better be out fighting the godseed with flare guns or something...

My guess is these guys got a much bigger response than they expected and are trying to get everything done ASAP. That or they are sitting around reading this and laughing at us.

Now that I think of it, I'm betting on the laughing at us...

yasai and ankoku

I read through all of this but there is so much information that I might have overlooked something.

I'm pretty sure that nobody ever looked up 'yasai' and 'ankoku' from the weird anime-like closing theme at the end of the video.

Japanese is complicated because those could mean many things without having the kanji written there, but using the dictionary software I have on my computer for Japanese, I came up with some things.

The only meaning I found for yasai as a whole word (and not just 'sai' or 'ya' separate) means vegetable. It uses the kanji that is pronounced 'ya' that means plains, field, rustic, and civilian life and the kanji for 'sai' that means vegetable, side dish, and greens.

Ankoku came up with darkness, written two ways with the variant being in the first kanji, 'an'. This 'an' can either be written with a kanji character that means gloom, disorder, get dark, or with a kanji character that means darkness, disappear, shade, informal, grow dark, be blinded. The kanji for 'koku' is the same in both, and merely means black.

I doubt this really gives us anything new, but I was interested in the 'be blinded' part of ankoku, from a link somebody provided much earlier in the thread about an old book called The Day of the Triffids, in which people when stung by the plants become blind. I'm not sure if maybe there is a connection.

Here's a link to the wiki article on the book again:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_of_the_Triffids

Good luck figuring this out. I'm not really clever enough for any of this stuff, but I'm very interested in the outcome of it.

Yeah, I think we already covered the Yasai and Ankoku thing earlier. Basically we decided it meant "Plant of Darkness," which fits the theme so far. Stay around and watch, at least; the more the merrier I always say! Wink

no one got through on the phone today?

not even to the old voicemail?

how is the Milwaukee Tourism Commission not open for business the next business day after Thanksgiving? remember the claims about a new campaign to replace the current Milwaukee tourism board/ press release?

"Don't mind Mike, he goes off on Visit"

this is bordering on lame, man. if the PMs were truly "in it", at least a note in e-mail today woulda kept people interested.

sad...

Don't sour on this so soon. It's been about 10 days since launch, a good part of which was a holiday weekend. During that time we've received two videos, solved a puzzle that led to a real world drop, and placed countless phone calls to in game characters. That's pretty active as far as ARGs go.

Some games can go weeks without updates. Some launches take place weeks, even months, before the bulk of gameplay begins. That's just the nature of the genre.

Many of the people who produce these games do so in their spare time, with little budget, simply out of love for what they're doing. If you love, like, or are at least mildly amused by what you've seen so far, give the PMs the benefit of the doubt and hang around a bit. With what they've put into this so far, it seems like we've got a lot to look forward to.

Re: Not Sure Here

Quote:

1. Mason discovers http://www.thisismymilwaukee.com/ and tweets about it.
2. Mason decides to 'participate' in the ARG, deletes his tweet, and posts the in-character post of someone moving to Milwaukee.
3. Mason decides that posting in character like that is tantamount to trolling the ARG and deletes the aforementioned post. Now everything is deleted and that's why it's only available in Google's cache

In summary, I don't think this is a solid lead. Bummer Sad

I apologize for my ignorance, but if he was just messing around with his friends that also saw the video, does that constitute "trolling" the ARG in the common sense of the word? Granted, I know twitter is out there for anyone to see, but would that make it different from message board posts (as far as trolling is concerned)? If I joked about "relocating" would I be trolling the ARG?

To spotlight my lack of ARG vernacular, it took me a few posts to realize that "PM" meant "puppet master" and not "Private Message". Hopefully this will help out some other newcomers to the forum.

And although it probably doesn't mean anything as far as a clue or the storyline, has anyone thought about how nasty a vermouth margarita would be? Yuck!

I wonder if there is a specific reason why they switch tequila for vermouth... Is there a lack (or overabundance) of the ingredients?

tequila and vermouth

Discussed above but since the thread is long:

The bar they leave is in rl "Quartino" but in the video everything is deleted except the letters QUATI, leaving RNO.

QUATI happens to be the letters in TEQUILA that are also in QUARTINO.

We wondered if the letters in TEQUILA should be replaced by the letters in VERMOUTH but VERMOUTH has one extra letter. It was suggested that RNO mean "NO R" and if you delete the R from VERMOUTH it now has enough letters.

I would suggest that either QUATI or RNO is useful but not both (that would make them extraordinarily lucky).

However, none of this got us anywhere.

Maybe it's just about deleting the TEQUILA somewhere else... but the words in the "WORKING" section, for example, don't seem to work...

FWIW, the liquid he pours while they're saying, "Vermouth" is blue, and Vermouth is either clear or red.

That also may have some bearing on the lemon changing to a lime and vice versa (it goes from yellow to green in the drink and the yellow is stepped on).

that is an interesting thought. Tequila is made from the agave plant (cactus) that probably isn't found too often in the north. Maybe all of Mexico got wiped out. Vermouth is a distilled wine like liquor made with herbs like wormwood. Absinthe is also made with wormwood.

Another day of speculating while we wait for info packets...I have to give it to these guys, this viral has me hooked with minimal info. I think the quirkiness of the video is what did it for me...

Alright, if I can get out of work for lunch today, i'm going to head to the other downtown post office. If i cant find the box there, i'm at least going to try and talk to someone and ask them if they can tell me where this PO box might be located, if anywhere. I'll post when i get back, which should be about 4 hours from now..

Howcast...

Some of the actors, the designer and synydyne are directly linked to Howcast. I'm thinking this ARG... if is an ARG is a promotion for howcast.
