OK, I'm officially lost and horribly confused with what's going on. So I might be saying all this too late, but since they are reading this forum I might as well say it.

From a PM's perspective, you have to know how to deal with gamejacks. The general rule is that any site is considered "OOG" until (1) it is directly referenced by an in game entity, or (2) it can be proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it is "in game" or at least owned by the same PMs.

Generally, I personally go with #2 above, as almost ALL of my own "in game" websites have been on the exact same IP address (which I own exclusively).

If it's any consolation, I consider gamejacks an honor; if your game is meaningful enough that someone wants to take something from it, it says something about the quality and potential of your game. People aren't going to attempt to gamejack a game that's worthless.

Now, that being said, it is in extremely bad form to come in to these forums and declare something as a gamejack. There are better ways of doing that. For example, contact the players directly, privately, and let a "select few" know about the site, then let them propagate that information to the masses. I did this with the LGL mail fiasco: contacted TWO select players, and pretty soon it was common knowledge.

Otherwise, if there's anything I can do to assist, let me know. I'd be more than happy to be a liason with the players, if need be.

Enough of that then... Game on!

The 'G A Project' Closure
Closure Of Game

Hi Guys,

We regret to inform the community here at Unfiction.com, that the ARG 'The G A Project', has now come to a close.

Due to Television and Studio commitments for the end of the year, we have had to cut our game short, which is annoying as we really wanted to take the story through to it's conclusion. Confused

We appologise that the story 'typically' took a dive, during the most important chapter so early on, but for closure, we supply for you now, the complete story arc:

During November 2008, Mi:5's highly ambitious 'IEN' system is finally completed after 18 months of development and troublesome budget issues. The very night of the system's anticipated launch, an unknown group of Hackers, disables the network by removing key digital components.

Thought to be completely impenetrable, this discovery shocks the Agency and soon, Global publicity errupts. The 'IEN' external contract development team, looking forward to returning home for Christmas, is called in for another term much to their dismay.

The youngest member of the team, Andrew Trickett, relays his anger through his personal Blog. However, merely hours after the incident, he stumbles upon a single IP Address that gained access to the Network via orbital channels.

Unsure of the user's origin, Andrew keeps the discovery to himself. However, after receiving contact from several unknown email address from outside the Agency, Andrew slowly begins to realise that this IP address could very well be the Hacker's only remaining trail.

Choosing to leave an email to one particular external user, Andrew confirms that he has been contacted by the Hacker's themselves...'The Unity'. Sending a death threat with Andrew's common catchphrase 'Tempus Fugit' tagged at the end of their email, triggers Trickett's memory.

Suddenly, realising that the pair responsible might actually be two former work collegues upon the 'IEN' project, Trickett contacts his superior Martin Joyce. He suggests Andrew contacts internal HR to establish the identities of the two individuals.

Only one name 'Dan' is recovered...the rest of the digital records apparently fragmented...the physical copies missing. Andrew decides to take his leave and head to Cornwall, leaving his personal email password hidden amongst an email that admits he doesn't let his messages rule his life.

After 24 hours, Andrew's body is found at his Southwark flat, his neck broken. The Unity, now free from any imminent discovery, continues to plan it's next attack. This time upon America.

Andrew's last email, sent to an external contact, is soon deciphered by his trusted 'friend', somebody outside of the Agency politic. The user manages to gain access to Andy's Live Mail account and discovers personal files stored upon Trickett's Skydrive.

Amongst these files, is an account of a staff termination at Mi:5. The two individuals that seem to be behind the cyber attack, were fired for suggesting the 'IEN' could be used for a more extreme and alternative use. Fed up with constant arguments over the true purpose of the Network, the two contractors are fired by Martin. Although brilliant, the pair acknowledge their dismissal and leave.

Whilst reading through Andrew's last few emails, the trusted user discovers the final exchange between Martin and Andy. Contacting Martin via email, the user asks for information upon the pair that were sacked. Martin, angry that Andrew had been divulging details to unregulated contacts, finally agrees to share his office phone number and arranges a time to call the next day.

Martin discloses to the user, that the individuals were fired due to their radical nature. Saying nothing else, he confirms the identity of the hackers, revealing that they had to be the only ones that could have cracked the security, having actually helped develop the system.

Dante Knoxx and Zakk Altair.

The user also mentions that The Unity are preparing to attack the US. Martin, now scared at their intentions and realising that they Murdered Andy, sets off to let the relevant authorities know.

Meanwhile, the hacker's website is taken offline for 'Downtime'. For an entire week, The Unity falls silent. During this silence, a recruit of the hacker's responsible for first informing Andrew that he was being watched, receives via mail Andrew's damaged phone and bloodied wallet.
The phone, with the message 'He Paid' scratched into the cover, reveals photos of Andy's beaten body and a sound recording of the apparent killers singing a nursery rhyme.

Inside Trickett's gory wallet, amongst some money, is an address for his flat based in London, including a silver key. On the back of the scrap paper are the words 'For Dad'. Taking the key and noting the address, the recruit heads to the flat.

Crossing under the Police Tape and using the front door key, the 'Echo' enters the property. Inside, the empty house is covered in plastic sheeting and old blood can be seen in the lounge. Nothing else is of interest until the house phone rings and a voice message is left on the answering machine. It is The Unity.

In a cold, digital voice, Dante leaves a warning to the Echo. He is informed that his artefacts were sent as a message to those who would not heed their orders. Their instructions. Upon searching the house and finding nothing the Echo leaves.

The next afternoon, The Pentagon is attacked by a severe Network intrusion, crippling every Intelligence link. The Washington Monument is spray-painted with the words 'We. Grow.' Three hours later, nine Patriot Missiles are launched from Egypt, but shortly after, fall into the North Atlantic Ocean.

Amongst these developments, closer to London, the news that Lead 'IEN' Developer Martin Joyce has gone missing, is spread via Newspapers and associated media. The hacker's website now shows a dark CCTV feed, of a man half naked and tied to a chair. It is Martin.

Realising that the general public are sparse on reliable recruits, The Unity issues the world a warning. Either the individual responsible for contacting Martin ceases his involvement in our affairs, or this man will die.

This message comes in the form of a live video, posted upon The Unity's empty website. The hacker recording the broadcast then reveals his face by accident and curses the event in an angry stutter. In the background, as Martin can be heard crying, Dante can be heard shouting at Zakk, exclaiming that not only did the missiles fail to strike their target but he has just revealed his face to the 'others'.

Martin continues to shuffle in his chair and briefly shakes his gag from his mouth. He shouts out a message to the camera and begs someone to call 'Sophia' supplying the world with a British mobile phone number. Dante yells in anger and marches in with a pistol and shoots Martin dead, live on air. He pulls the feed from the computer and all falls silent.

Following on from Martin's request, Sophia is contacted and informed that Martin is dead by a viewer of the message. She sobs for a short while before informing the caller that the hacker with the stutter is her brother Zakk, who was working upon the project from the beginning. She was informed by Martin just yesterday. Overcoming her love for Zakk, she realises that he must be stopped for his own good and that he has caused enough damage to both the family and the public.

She contacts the police shortly after their call and has Zakk arrested. The next day, an exclusive interview is published by the Guardian and Zakk explains that his partner is still going ahead with the 'G A Project'. He is then sentenced to thirty eight years for terrorism and the murder of Andrew Trickett.

The Unity, now disbanded and broken, destroys its website and promises to disable Global society by crushing the White House. Amongst some pictures of the White House are two photographs that depict the Battersea Powerstation in London and a helicopter with the word 'Westland' crossed out. The note underneath the slides reads as the date '7th August 2009 - 19:40'.

Figuring out the final teaser, a 'recruit' travels to the Battersea based London Heliport for 7:40pm. Once there, a man with a suitcase labeled 'Unity Project' eyes the recruit arriving in the lobby and after confirming visual contact, Dante runs out into the heliport. The recruit gives chase and traps Dante behind a metal chain fence.

It is at this point that Dante produces a gun from his case and points it at the recruit. He divulges that the 'Global Annulment' project failed due to the Intelligent Eye Network being used for simple surveillance monitoring. The Unity (Dante and Zakk) worked upon the project, hoping to convert it into a New World Order recruitment network.

Without access to the system and without the power of reaching millions of possible recruits, the 'G A Project' hit failure after failure. The group became desperate and after destroying the 'IEN', attempted to free all Global surveillance networks and manually control them as recruitment tools.

He describes how Zakk, suffering with mental difficulties but the better programmer out of the two, became impatient and acted toward destroying the White House early, by launching a series of Missiles from Egypt. Dante noted and eventually encouraged this diversion of the plan, but became angry when the missiles fell short of their intended DC target and dropped into the Atlantic Ocean.

Now known by almost every security agency in the world, Dante intended to personally board a helicopter to an offshore private jet and, once in DC, plant a suitcase explosive within the grounds of the White House. Already having made contact with four local NWO extremist groups within Washington via early online recruitment, Knoxx could easily slip into the property and finalise his desperate move.

Giving the recruit standing infront of him an ultimatum, Dante hands the gun to him. Does he put the gun into his pocket and join Dante on the flight to DC...or does the recruit shoot Dante and hopefully put an end to the 'G A' plot?

- Story Ends -

So, there we have it guys. It's nearly a novel...but it should satisfy some rather confused players out there. During the early days of the game, we couldn't believe, through UTTER coincidence, how world events appeared to coincide by what was happening in the game! The gun at the end of the story was to be a fully functioning 'Blank Firing' pistol that the player/s were actually going to use.

It was then that the game would reach it's conclusion and rounds of applause would be sounded. So...good or bad...what would you have done?

And by God, there we were, cringing in frustration over the appearance of red herrings via that Gamejack website! We couldn't do anything, but watch our players fall off the trail and follow blind clues. So, yes Natas, our bad. Wink

There is, however, a REAL 'G A Project' taking place right now. This campaign was to lead up to it eventually. More information can be found here:

This one is a lot less nefarious!

Well guys, many thanks for an interesting few weeks and we do hope you'll come say hi.

Stay frosty.

Okay see now reading that... I feel really, really bad.

Should have known due to keywords it was a viral for a band. And I didn't even think to try halflife3 as a pw for the email addy.

I think all the stupid interruptions threw me off... AND I feel really bad even more still for 'doubting'.

That bloody storyline looked like it would have been really awesome.

Whoever our anonymous gamejacker was. Shame on you for ruining a potentially great game. Sorry pm's for the criticism, hope it doesn't discourage you from trying again. There are ways to prevent these things from happening (..alludes to previous post by Nighthawk).

Anyway. I did enjoy what you guys did so far. I hope you would consider taking another stab at something similar.

Within the plot 'Global Annulment'. To strip the World of it's socially ordered foundations. To cause MASS chaos ideally. Twisted Evil

Outside of the plot, 'Global Album'.

Not really going to advertise that particular meaning here, as this isn't an advertisment board (although, isn't that what ARGs are?!).

More information upon that can be found within:

@Dante & Zakk--Thanks bigtime for the beginning fun of what sounds like a supah scenario. Such a pity it ends so abruptly. Sad

Damn that sounds totally awesome! It is sad that we won't be able to complete it, but thanks for the beginning, it was fun :]
I'm in the game field myself, and I really have to say the whole plot is amazing now that I see the whole thing. It's a gusty plot to go through with. The idea of giving the players an ultimatum like that is brilliant. I hope you guys don't give up on arg's I would love to play another game by you (hopefully we can finish it the next time haha).

In regards to your question what would we have done, personally I'm against violence...but really if i could find no way to stop him, its possible i could have pulled the trigger. it's a scary thought, even if it is a blank and just a game, one can get really into it.

Again, Thank You
-Peace
