5 different mwe levels on the "Doleful City" chart, and 5 levels of hell...

There are actually 9 circles of hell... The inner circles are contained within the city of Dis.

sorry for the double post, but here are my thoughts on the charts.

it doesn't look like there's a pattern on the chart on page 26. judging by the description, I think it's a map rather than a solvable puzzle.

i think the grid on the facing page, however, is solvable. I'm just not sure how yet.

I don't think anyone's mentioned this (and if they have, I apologize) but take a look at the flickr account's name: 32903188@N05.

One would expect something like Thisismymilwaukee or Mike.Russo or something. I doubt they just chose a random string of numbers to hide it from being easily found.

I think that the very idea of an emerald tomb buried deep below the earth would fit very much with the idea of descending into Hell. Blackstar could have built an expansive city down there when times were good, prior to killing the G.o.D.S.E.E.D. Now that they've sealed the place off and entombed it, below the earth there could be a 'doleful city' awaiting avid Treasure Hunters.

The username is thisismymilwaukee. I think Flickr URLs all look like that....

Take a look at other flickr accounts. The url is whatever username you choose for your account. You can then choose whatever name shows up as "_______'s Photostream". That way your account name can be "sillypants" and you can set it up to say "Joe's Photostream".

Plus-size rebreathers

on page 62, it says "for Petites and Plus-sizes, please contact Blackstar directly".

maybe someone should hit Mike up, saying they need a plus-size rebreather, and ask how you might get in contact with Blackstar directly?

Argh, okay...so I did find other accounts that have a similar naming convention. Just pretend I didn't say anything.

That's the default account ID, same idea as image filenames, just unique. Accounts can choose to use a visible name in the url instead if they wish. Every account is accessible by their account id in that manner, and it's flickr-generated.
factoid for the day ; )

eta: seriously? again with no cross-post notification.. grr!

Okay, so i've been doing some heavy physics looking-around...

m.w.e. stands for Meters of Water Equivalent. It's used when discussing depth in terms of the amount of water above the point that would be needed to reduce cosmic ray flux by the same amount as the actual material above the point does. I'm not sure if we're talking flow of cosmic rays here, or some other kind of high-energy waves or particles, but it's a start.

I would think that the chart refers to flow of proton energy at particular depths of whatever material we're talking about. Could be concrete for all we know, but the depth doesn't refer to actual depth in feet, it refers to the depth in meters of water that would reduce the flow of those particles the same amount as the actual material.

I'm still lookin around Very Happy

Can you explain that again, but this time to a High School grad?

LoL. It took me a bit to understand it too...but then again, I only get to check "Some College" on surveys...

m.w.e. in depth terms - Say you've got a sensor underground trying to detect cosmic particles. You could say that it's 1000 meters under typical rock. If it were sand, salt, marshmallows... whatever, instead of rock, the amount to which incoming particles would degrade would be different. m.w.e. is a way of standardizing the measurement for different materials through which the particles are passing. That way you could say, the particle degrading properties of passing through 1000 meters of standard rock is the same as those same particles passing through 2650 meters of water, so the meters of water equivalent of 1000m of standard rock is 2650 (typical rock is always multiplied by 2.650 for the m.w.e.). 1000 m of marshmallows could be the same as 30 m of water (for all we know, i'm guessing no one has tested).

Really all i was saying is that measurements in m.w.e. as in that graph are usually used for underground sensors trying to detect incoming particles.

that's all i got, i think Very Happy

i still didn't get a word of that... Confused

erm. I think it's hard to explain, for me anyway, because I'm not that into particle physics. I was hoping someone savvy on the subject would come along and make me seem like less of an idiot Very Happy

The point i was getting at, because we already knew what E p was, I was trying to make some correlation between that and what was going on down the left side of the graph.

Let's say that 1000 meters of rock has the same filtering effect as 2650 of water. That's my understanding of the measurement standard. It's just a way of not having to say what the material is that you're measuring through, because you're relating it's properties to some equivalent depth of water.

Like I said, I'm still looking around. I am now obsessed with finding some kind of correlation between particle energy at certain depths and m-rotors.

Ohh. So, it's like saying a pound of feathers equals a gallon of water or something?

It's more like saying that 3 cubic feet of feathers equals a gallon of water...
just because they're both measures of volume...

But, you're on the right track... It's just a way of relating two unlike things together using a standard measurement.

Very Happy

M-Rotors

I got the impression that an M-Rotor was biological, or at least related to certain individuals.

Remember the video: "Does he know?"

Mix that in with the idea that there are enough M-Rotors around to be expressing in percentages, it makes me think that they are either robotic, or have robotic parts.

It is a HUGE secret that there are robots, so if someone knows, you have to 'Jettison all affected personel".

With the M-Brass, etc. it makes me think that these robots or robotic parts are made of this new Brass, and the Decatur produces them, maybe in the current ADM plant. (I'm from Bloomington, IL not so far from Decatur.)

Thoughts?

Could be. I think the problem is, if the M-rotor issue is public knowledge, and they're installed in robots, then people would have to have widespread knowledge of robots, and they wouldn't be a secret.

If an M-rotor fails, and needs to be reseated, it must be doing something to them to a degree at which they cannot be saved. It seems sort of like when people are bitten by zombies. You just get rid of them, because there's nothing else you can do...It's not insensitive, it's just all that can be done.

One thing's for sure: if this is a promotional ARG for a video game, it's gonna be frickin' awesome.

Oh, okay. I get it now! Why didn't you say that in the first place? Razz
