Perhaps New Years is when they're sending out the faxes? Just a guess.

As I noted before, that Unix timestamp is going to happen twice this year.

I think this might be significant, as I don't think that it's an accident that they would pick the only number that will appear twice.

thinking out loud

doleful city comes from the Divine Comedy which is about the afterlife, A Reasonable Haven, heaven?, 'tried to build a new god', pharaoh's sarcophagus, the pharaoh was considered a living god... I don't know if there's anything deeper then just repeated imagery. If they did mean 'Reasonable Heaven' then that'd be an oxymoron, since the underpinnings of reason and religion are direct opposites.

Also I was rewatching the video and from it, given what we know now, somehow Chuck interacted with Voltaire and became a patron to the museum. However, Voltaire lived 250+ years ago. The last paragraph on the chateau page says "Voltaire's power class, unburdened and capable of rapid conveyance." Then the next sentence says that in comparison, we're like buildings, so it sounds like Voltaire doesn't have a physical body. Or it could have been Chuck's ancestor, but dukes tend not to move, since they own large amounts of property, and there certainly wasn't a Milwaukee in the human Voltaire's time.

The worker's tale seems out of place especially since it's on the table of contents alongside much more important info. By the way, history of pies here, and a 1500's cookbook with language just like the poem here.

It's probably nothing related, but the French were active in the area around what's now Milwaukee while Voltaire was alive.

I have a feeling Voltaire is still around. I doubt he's the Voltaire we all know and love, but rather some other entity in the TIMM universe that shares the name and possibly a few other traits. Either way, Voltaire was/is very powerful.

Voltaire's powerclass

Makes me think again about Jardin Watt-Turing, the "actor" for the waiter at FeBrizzio's. Are the electric-sounding names pointing towards some kind of robots / electric beings? Voltaire was asked questions by a duke, which is Jagoda, so he seems to be found around these electric-sounding named people/things. Fits in well with the magnetic theme, too.

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is calculated via very precise atomic clocks. Because the earth's rotation is ever so slightly slowing down, a 'second' measured atomically ever so slightly deviates from a 'second' as defined by the International System of Units ( 1/86,400th of the average solar day between 1750 and 1892). To keep the two in-line with each other, a leap second is added as necessary. The next leap second will be added between 23:59:59 December 31st 2008 and 00:00:00 January 1st 2009. Which means that, in Unix Timecode, 1230768000 could be counted twice. Though technically a leap second is considered to delay the onset of the following day, meaning 1230767999 would repeat itself.

First, great work. Jan 1st is the date.

We need votes/info on alternative answers to the p27 puzzle. I say, if it need to be scrambled and matched to the video we're done there.

So we're left with the way in to hell. Seems clear that the mwe and GeV stuff is garbage, we're left with a 5x5 grid. Maybe, as Mike sez, just wait till later for it?

I just called Mike for info and he said people have already solved 27, I don't think there's anything else there.

Agreed, in talking to him I got the impression that we're done with that now... that we found the solution. Of course, the answer only raises more questions. But he seems to be hinting that more info will be coming soon.

After looking at that puzzle for days I definitely wish we had something more immediately gratifying, but that's not always how these things work =/

Based on your statement you're probably already aware, but in the interest of not assuming things a Turing test (named for Alan Turing) is meant to test a machine to see if it's artificial intelligence can fool a person through conversation into thinking that the machine is human. So that could indeed point to robots.

Oh Scott, why do have to ruin everything with your not assuming things?

Because whenever I assume something it ruins my life in some incredibly profound way, of course.
