I keep just sending random emails trying to get any information I can. In one of the conversations she mentioned being a trades woman, so I took that approach this time. Here's the conversation with Mars:

Mars,
I haven't had any interaction with Go.D.S.E.E.D fragments as of yet. What about you? I mean, is that an acronym for something scarier or what?

Also, the list of important materials on the pre-approved version of A Reasonable Haven lists some important materials, such as iron and wood. I happen to a large stock pile of wood in a secret location (I used to be a lumberjack before the lands were turned to desert). Would BlackStar be interested in buying or trading for this wood (I would accept dark dollars as payment)?

Thanks,
Scott

hi scott,

sorry, i dont work for blackstar. woods preeeety plentiful even with the desertification (sp?) and all, so while i'm sure you'd be able to trade it, its probably not gonna make you rich unless you've got a ton.

also you must be carrying a rabbits foot not to have had a single sighting of a fragment yet. while they're pretty rare so far here in the city proper, (compared to the desert especially geeze!) never having run into one is like never having been caught in the rain. not sure what godseed stands for, actually. someone at blackstar probably does, but they're so burecratic (sp again, sorry) that i'd be surprised if you could get it out of any of them.

EDIT: How do you type four e's in pretty? maybe that's a clue?

Ask her what they look like!

hi megan,

glad to hear that you want to solve problems. i don't really do much for the "greater good" like people at blackstar or the mtc, i'm just kind of a loner. (i do freelance repair/tinkering work, so i guess i'm helping SOMEone..) all i can tell you about the move is over-prepare, even if you're traveling by rail or boat or whatever. better safe than sorry.

interesting that SOME is emphasized....perhaps she sympathizes with the rebels?

I think more likely it's that she's stressing "someone" to say that she's a little dissatisfied with her workload or is maybe being mildly sarcastic? She seems to be more "real" than the rest of the characters, possibly because she isn't indoctrinated yet, lending more to the theory of this being bodysnatchers-esque.

I think they're looking for a # of friends tipping point before Mars will become comfortable enough to spill any beans. Better get viral-ing.

Yes, when I saw the first quote above I also thought more friends would make her more open.

I don't think that the Chinese in the answering machine message is Cantonese. I asked my Mandarin friend to translate it, but he said that he couldn't without context (Chinese is pretty contextual). Again, if someone can record the audio, that might help?

This might have been mentioned before, but there's definitely something to the fact that she's a loner, and she hasn't been body-snatched yet. Couple that with the TIMM video's emphasizing the importance of young adults socializing and dating in the Canning District, and I think we're definitely on to something.

Mars Madison...
...secret agent?

I think it's significant that she doesn't work for Blackstar and claims to know nothing about them nor really the whole Go.D.S.E.E.D. scenario; she apparently just found her way to Milwaukee of her own accord, perhaps having heard through the grapevine it was a safe haven. If she's not part of Blackstar/MTC, why did Russo include her in that flurry of "oops" emails? Perhaps that was an even bigger mistake on his part, a very careless oversight by a man stretched to the breaking point and at wit's end.

Elsewhere I've conjectured that Russo may be part of a deliberate, covert leak of info, "hidden in plain sight" and unbeknownst to Blackstar/MTC. IIRC, Mars had mentioned being a freelancer in various fields. I suspect she may be involved in facilitating this covert leak, helping to prepare graphics etc. that contain the leaked info in a steganographic manner. If she admits to being not just "shy" but also "camera shy", that will be all the confirmation I need of her role.

By inadvertently including her, an outside party, in his "unsend immediately" email, Mike revealed his connection to her and possibly to the "resistance" that is trying to leak this info, which may explain why we have heard no more from him personally and last heard in one of Chuck's Tweets that he was seen distraught and crying. Good ol' Russo may have revealed himself as a "traitor" to Blackstar and fired (if not worse -- "throw him to the Go.D.S.E.E.D. fragments!" R.I.P. ).

Mike is going to get fired?
in a week

Quote:

Bigwig's call with Mike Russo

fixed for spelling/grammar

Just got off the phone with Mike Russo Convo. It went kind of like this; it was kinda of hard to hear understand him because he claimed to be drunk and was swearing often and loudly.

Mike: Hello This is mike
Me: Hey Mike how have you been?
Mike: Not good, not good at all
Me: Why whats wrong?
Mike: Its those F**king info packets!
Me: I thought joey was more responsible for that?
Mike: Joey? I dont even know that kid I have only met him like 15 times. IM going to get fired, in a week! BECAUSE OF MICHAEL LEWIS! YOU DONT TRUST HIM! Tell your friends!
Me: Dont trust Lewis?
Mike: Yeah, he dosnt give a s**t about civics! Theres only 5 cities left, we need to get more cities active! And THOSE g*****n GS Fragments! IM goings to have to go back to working at F**ing FeBrizzio's!
Me: Im sorry mike is dose it suck working there?
Mike: No! They are good people! I just need more dark dollors! Look I have to go!

Then he hangs up, he said some other things about how he was to fat and too old but I dont think any of it was important

I didn't see much discussion of the key points from this (the only call we've had logged with Russo since the packets came out..)

First, there are 5 cities left.

More importantly, he thinks he's going to get fired in a week.

Sorry to deviate again but has anyone tried figuring out the time slots for when people seem to be available? On the phone, at least, since we can easily track when Mars and Leroux are doing things on Facebook. Speaking of:

Firstly, they add friends in large, large groups. Secondly, they do so right after one another. They start adding friends Dec. 4 (the day they were discovered I think?), Mars at 6.33PM and Leroux at 6.59PM. Mars then friends again at 7.16PM same day, 7.17PM, 7.62PM and 9.39PM, while Leroux only friends again at 7.16PM Dec. 4. That puts Mars in a frame of 6.30-9.30, Leroux from 7-7.15ish. Mars strikes again at 2.21AM Dec 5th, and at 10.26AM and 1.23PM, Leroux following at 2.31AM and 12.15PM, but Leroux hasn't added anyone since then. Mars, however, friended more people today at 1.27AM.

So, Dec. 4th has Mars from 6.30-9.30PM, Leroux from 7-7.15ish. On Dec 5th, this changes to 2.21AM, 10.26 AM and 1.23PM for Mars, 2.31AM and 12.15PM for Leroux. Today, 1.27AM for Mars so far, nothing for Leroux yet. They seem more like morning people the past two days, but they started out mid-late evening... Coincidence maybe, but interesting nonetheless.

So... not sure what all this means, if it's just when the players are available to do things, but if we can establish a pattern it's safe to say that we can figure out when best to try and contact people, which seems like a good organisational goal if nothing else. If SOMEthing else, then what?

Hm, 5 cities, 5 blanks on p.27, 5 single-digit numbers left on p.26 if we throw out anything familiar or obvious BS padding.

BTW, "We need to get more cities... active?" I thought being "ACTive" was a bad thing? Did he remember that phrasing accurately? Also, "15 times" is an oddly specific number for how often he'd met Joey...

Call and listen for yourself. It's a phrase in Chinese, then "bonne chance". I am very sure that the whole thing isn't Chinese.

This is important

I sent an email to mars and russo and point blank asked about the charts. I sent the email on 12/4 and just got a response from russo on 12/6

i sent:
Quote:

hey guys, I got the, uh, pre-approved version of the handbook. Sounds like the bosses were a little upset. I have a quick question: What grim tale exactly do the charts on page 26 and 27 tell better than words? I'm confused.

Thanks,
Scott

The only thing is, if it IS "bonne chance," then I think we really need to figure out what the Chinese says. "Good luck" isn't something you normally just tack on at the end of a message after all, so there has to be something there.
