Oh god I can't stop laughing. So this is what the ultimate warriors betrayal is about, ahahha.

I think someone was keeping a map of what is and isn't still viable - could we add the Chicago area to it? Sounds like something massive though.. I think there are some nuclear power plants in Illinois - the Byron Nuclear Generating Station provides power for Chicago, as do the Braidwood Nuclear Generating Station and Dresden Nuclear Power Plant, which should put each of them close enough that a massive failure might have affected the Chicago area enough for it to be irradiated to the extent that Mike would be as freaked as he was o_O. Other than that, we might be talking bombs - but something on that scale would have affected Milwaukee from Chicago... wouldn't it? *hrms*

Sorry, Pendragon - will edit that. And transcribe Clocks' call. omg so much typing, my heart is all aflutter :3

Just got off the phone with Mike myself - HOLY DAMN IT WAS AWESOME, SO MUCH INFO - couldn't get a transcription of MY call due to me having a terrible memory - but I took notes and here's the basic stuff I got.

Told him I was doing a project and one of my friends pointed me to the booklet, and that I was interested in the dinosaur history section. Dropped the "surely you know what I'm referring to" password; Mike laughed and said he'd heard that a lot lately.

Mike informed me that dinosaurs were humans' worst enemies, they were tyrannical, promised peace and brought violence, etc. The Dinosaur Viceroy was a horrific leader. This was about during the 1970s, he said; he reiterated the concept of humans stealing the knowledge of magnetism from the dinosaurs and using it to overthrow and destroy them. I asked for a date, and he stumbled a bit - seemed confused - said it'd be "DOR 33? no - earlier - anyway I was very young then - yeah, I was alive at that point. But very young." Then he went on to mention that one of the 300 Troubles was everyone's loss of memory, and that anyone with memory intact cared little about dinosaurs, history, etc. He also confirmed that people in the present timeline are using what remains of media to recreate the past. He said, and this was interesting, "It's hard to tell whether we can trust that... but I trust it, and I trust us now."

He then went on to tell me that after the dinosaur era came the Era of Pro Wrestling - I had serious difficulties not laughing here. Apparently numerous bards, including Shakespeare, tell of an Ultra Warrior (who we've heard referenced) before. He was ultimately betrayed by a folding chair to the back/head (forget which), which Mike says was "a very common weapon during that era". (I am stifling my laughter.) He then went on to segue into the concept of hubris. Right then my phone connection cut out.

I called back right away, apologized for my phone, and said, "I'm in Chicago - you know how it is here." He freaked out and said, "You're ALIVE in CHICAGO? Oh my GOD. I can't - I can't even imagine how irradiated your body must be - " and then something about my skeleton. Shiiit. I cover for it, tell him I'm passing through on my way to safety, and he tells me in a sort of panicked voice, "Well, hurry through, and may Cool Dog watch over you."

Then we try to get back on subject. I mention hubris, he starts laughing a bit and pretends he's coughing, and goes on to tell me that hubris is what caused the slaying of Adam and Eve by the Snake-Monster. He also goes on to talk about hubris being what drove the Blackstar folks to create Go.D.S.E.E.D. in the first place - some ranting here at Blackstar, a mention that nobody really knows their motivations - some choice bits included "blah blah we'll build you hospitals, blah blah you help us create this mechanically engineered monster" or something along those lines.

He did make a point of saying that anyone directly involved with creating Go.D.S.E.E.D. initially is long dead, and if by some chance someone did remain who might know about it in more depth, well... that's not something we need to worry about at this point in time, and he said we probably won't need to until much farther down the road. So I guess any spec on that subject is fairly unnecessary for the time being.

Not a lot of super-pertinent info, but a lot of fun world-building stuff, and who knows when some of this will come in handy.

"May Cool Dog watch over you..."
I swear, that almost killed me lol.

It's not even like their concept of history is just taken out of context, but it's just randomly pieced together. The era of Pro-Wrestling is comedy gold, for us, but this is like legend, or religion for them.

Voltaire, Shakespeare... I wonder how many others they had. Was there a Homer who came up with witty quotes? Or a Rousseau?

These are probably among the best calls we've had so far. Congrats guys, and thanks again to the person that solved the table Very Happy

Russo: You guys really don't have to keep using that phrase.
Jim: Alright,
Russo: It's not necessary at this point. You already found what I hoping you guys would find.
Jim: Good good good.
Russo: Please don't bring that up though to the remainder of the Milwaukee Tourism Commission.
Jim: Oh are you kidding me?!
Russo: [something, both talking].. they'd be peeved, to put it mildly that someone [something] completed the second table, um, so what can I help you with Jim?

Jim Right right.
Russo: You don't want something like that just sitting out in the middle of the road. Do you realize I had to keep a straight face during ALL of this? It was pretty bad. Very Happy
Worst was me picking up the phone, calling, starting in on my spiel about wanting to know about "dinosaur history"... and my roommate bursts out laughing next to me, not knowing what the hell is going on. I was seriously biting the inside of my mouth for a good minute.

Also, have more call transcript~ This one is ACTUALLY Clocks; it's the M-rotor conversation.

(intro formalities)
Clocks: I think you talked to my friend Conrad earlier? I'm sure you know what I'm referring to...
Mike: You guys really don't have to keep using that catchphrase at this point. (something else really quiet) Please don't bring that up, though, to the remainder at the MTC. They'd kinda be... peeved, mildly, that somebody completed the second table. So what can I help you with, Jim?
Clocks: So first, this is a delicate question. I know in the past everyone I've asked this to has been very sensitive about it.
Mike: Ask me.
Clocks: The M-rotor.
Mike: You know, I'm not as mad now about it as I used to be, because I have a sneaking suspicion that my days with MTC are rapidly approaching their zenith... the M-rotor's a tricky subject. I'm really not qualified to speak on it at great length but what I can say is that it's an extremely dangerous but extremely promising device of sorts. Maybe device isn't exactly the right word. Blackstar is actually looking to hire some re-seators for kind of the M-rotor chain through Milwaukee. Because they've had a few unfortunate instances recently and have lost some of their best re-seators. It really isn't something that I feel qualified to speak on, but again, if you would direct this question to Ms. Laroux over at Blackstar... they're the people who developed the M-rotor... they're working with some of our best scientists. But, you know, same rules as always. Leave the M-rotors alone. They are, in their own way, much more dangerous than family trees. But we gotta get power from somewhere, and it just happens to be through the M-rotors.
Clocks: Can I just ask one more question on the subject?
Mike: Sure, Jim. Lay it on me, buddy.
Clocks: Where are the M-rotors?
Mike: Where are the M-rotors. They're all throughout town. And they're typically stationary, more often than not they're attached to buildings of particularly high power classes. Some of them are hidden, some of them are out in the open. We try to keep them sequestered away, meaning, creations of almost unimaginable capacity for good and harm... you know how it is. You don't want something like that just sitting out in the middle of the road. As I understand it, there are even a few naturally-occuring devices... maybe not naturally-occuring, maybe ancient devices that operate outside of the city limits that could be classified of M-rotors of sorts. But, uh, that's neither here nor there, I'm speaking way above my head. There's definitely different people in the city you should talk to about this -
Clocks (overlapping): Just, you know, with this whole Blackstar thing, I don't really know who to trust.
Mike: It's just a matter of being able to find out who can lead you to the right person, because I've already said everything I know about M-rotors.
(goodbyes, etc; Clocks & Pendragon freak about M-rotors and it's cute)

EDIT: Whoops, someone beat me to it this time!

Why Milwaukee?

So, i think, now that Mike Russo is free to talk, we should ask him why, exactly, Blackstar and the MTC want people in Milwaukee so badly. It doesn't seem like they're looking out for people's best interests, even if it is in the only region that seems to still exist

Just got off the phone with Russo... long talk, so I'm not going to attempt an exact transcription, but here's what info I gathered:

Family Trees are sources of great chthonic energy, but very unstable. They're used for both good and "not so good". Planting them underground helps to keeps them dormant. They're best planted around homes or buildings or anywhere you might need quick access to energy.

The Snake Charmers are one of several rebel groups in the area, mainly located up around the North Gate. Mike doesn't associate with them, but as far as he knows they're not necessarily dangerous. There are maybe 5 or so rebel groups active in Milwaukee at the moment. They're rebelling against Blackstar, angry about how they operate and upset that they haven't paid for what they've done.

Voltaire is an outstanding guy, very powerful, and the hero of the 300 troubles (second only to Ethra (sp?), "may she rest in peace"). Larose had the great honor of meeting with him last week. He supports Milwaukee, but isn't there often, spending most of his time down in Peoria.

Lewis is a ****ing ****** (I'll keep this clean). But he seems to be well liked at the MTC. They'll be setting up a line soon for him to field questions. Apparently Larose and ATM both want this. For now he can occasionally be reached at the main line, as he has on office there, but you'll mainly reach Joey.

I got the general sense that, for the moment, we're not supposed to be 'solving' anything in particular. Rather, we should be paying attention, because we'll be seeing information continually released.

Oh, and one funny moment... he had me hold for a moment while he bowled for his dog. Ended up hitting him in the face =)

FYI Joey is actively answering at the moment...didn't get anything good though, I freaked out a little too much, and tried to ask about Cool Dog but he wouldn't budge. Just mentioned I should talk to Russo about how to prepare to move to MKE and that he has a 2 BR in the Canning district....get it while the getting is good folks! Smile

Hello all! Now that THIS thread is going crazy due to all the interactions and info coming from Milwaukee residents, I've started three more:

Mike Russo - Interaction and Information
