[LOCKED] [NEW] IRC Transcript -- Credible?

 		I disagree. I belive that the chat we saw was from the real guys.

* Their speech patterns were the same
* Their behavior was the same
* The nature of their cryptic references was the same

I'll bet on it being real. I think we can pin a few of the carelessly files on some hacker names now.

- Caesar - First to the spot (FACT)
- Texel - Texel is here
- Sever appears to be the guy who is always late
- Einstein appears to be the "southerly wind"
- It looks like they call someone "Firewall", and he could be the carelessly.goo file
- Aurelius has a 64 reference and his /WHOIS says "marcus". Maybe mlo, but there was a Roman Emperor named Marcus Aurelius too.
- Aurora - Could be the "poet" since he is rambling poetry, or could even be the "nice quiet spot" guy.
- Rigel - ???

Another thing is that they referred to "Beth" by name, so I wouldn't think she is a part of these hackers. Caesar and Texel seem to both know Beth, since they ask about talking to her about her "report". This "report" sounds like what she was going to do in Marcus' office during the meet n greet Friday night. Maybe one of these 2 is Phillip Gairden?

Aurora is probably a girl.
I am not sure what to think at this point, but I am VERY sceptical about it; and Texel... Either his "hint" about Marcus' birthday was a fake, or this chat was a fake - why didn't he refer to it in the chat?? Or - most likely - they are both fake.

Congratulations. You just listed the basic essentials for an actor staying in character.

Look it's still easy to just log in and say you're someone, EVEN signing onto something and using their email as identification. If you go to the paintover comment forum about "et tu?", scroll up to Beth's name, click on her to send her an email, it will show you you are emailing her metadex adress. But of course since that was me just signed on as Beth, it's useless.

Then get rid of the unwanted clues. You mentioned how Caesar and Texel referred to Beth by name. Well, that should be a hint that this is a bunch of crap. That's too easy. Now if they said something like, "Did you talk to her?" Then there'd be more credence to your theories. But they used her name, that's a little bit too in your face. No mystery.

It's easy, biz, just get on, look at all the theories people are saying, study the websites, then you got your character bio and you can go to work on fooling people into thinking you're one of the PMs.

Had this little chat happened prior to certain developments, then I'd definitely consider it worth looking into. But don't think I have dismissed it. Hell I haven't even dismissed the infamous "underslept.com" thing yet (despite all the hupla showing "underslept" has nothing to do with Underscore). But this chat transcript is going to the same place "underslept" is: the back burner. The very, very back burner.

The more I reread the log, the more I doubt if any of this is real... you say they use the same "speech patterns", I say they just copied the stuff from the Carelessly files, and did it in an overdramatic and way too obvious way.

Also, I think that we have a huge amount of information already at hand to work with, so why this quite meaningless visit to an IRC channel (that only a small part of contributors to this ARG have access to)?

All I'm saying is, let's not argue too much over if this is real or not, let's try to do something with what we've got. Imho it's a fair bit of wasted energy Confused

Erh, yeah, sorry if that sounded a bit too harsh... just my opnion that we're following the wrong stuff, but there's no way to know for sure atm anyway...

Exactly. Also remember that they visited the channel before, directing us to the Aquapolis website to find more of the carelessly files.

Some of those references, including the poultry website were very strange. I wonder if there are going to be some new files at Aquapolis...

*sighhhhhhh* Old news. The IRC channels are linked on the Metacortex Conspiracy website. But most people from here have given up on chat sites and forums too look for the real characters. They go to forums to discuss with the other players about possible theories. I never go expecting to run into Steven Walsh, and if I do I'm not going to throw up my hands in excitement. Most likely it's some pimple faced 12 year old that just wants to f*** with people's heads for a laugh (no offense to the pimple faced 12 year olds who like to f*** with people's heads for a laugh).

At least this guy had enough courage to post this anonymously instead of under his account. I'll bet he has pimples too.

Aww. LOL. That's precious. But guess what I'll take the credit for it, okay, happy?

The reason why I wasn't logged on is because I've made the mistake of thinking this site automatically logs on. And it's been my complaint to the mods that maybe you should be logged in in order to post. Come on, it's free registration. Plus it's easier to know whether or not you're logged on before you post.

But hey, you had a nice dis there. I applaud you for that. *golf clapping*

I would be willing to grant the first one as real because of the information imparted, but this one currently has such low credibility. I don't want to completely discount it as fake without investigation, but unless someone can find something exceptional about it or some nasty holes in it, I think it is safe to just file it away as "something that happened," but not take any action on it.

The only thing special about this domain is that it has a web->IRC gateway. It acts like an anonymizer because any traces from IRC go back to that IP address and stop. On the one hand, it makes a great gateway for PMs. On the other hand, it makes a great gateway for bored troublemakers.

I think that unless anyone can find anything exceptional about this, we can just chalk it up as a fake.
