Just checked my email and got this welcome letter from The Matrix Runners:
Quote:
Not the response I had hoped for, but those of you that have responded to this I consider to be an "elite few."

BTW: I was hoping one of you would know the answer to the IBM part number - we've been trying to answer that question ourselves for years now.

No matter, you did very well on the rest of the questions. Please understand we're not going to put you in to scoring system; we want a low profile on this.

I'm contacting you privately because there is something of concern. I received a copy of the attached message in the "webmaster" in box earlier today.

There's two things that bother me:

1) That's not Gibson, and I know that for a fact. Even though he's a friend of mine, he's an inept tool, a moron. He couldn't hack his own website, much less a defense contractor's. Someone's setting him up like majorly.

2) "V" is helping us, helping Gibson, and yet he's putting all the heat on him. I don't know why, but he's been more productive at taking them down than anyone. He says two of the firewalls have already been unlocked despite DTI's security measures. I don't know how he does it, but recently he told me that "the keys are coming," so he wants to take them down with a wrecking ball and has the means to do do.

I'm not sure what to do, but I think the best course of action is to play along with this "V" character (yes, I'll keep calling him "V", despite what the mail says). The answer to Gibson's problems are within DTI, and "V" is the only one with the way in despite what his motives may be.

If you have any more information as to what's going on, please let us know. For now I'll try to remain cryptic on the main site until we know what's going on or how to proceed.

Thanks.

- Sam

What is IBM part number 732015? Its a deep hacker joke since 1989 and has become an in joke ever since its inclusion into the Hacker test. That test lead to the movie Hackers and the phrase "Hacking the Gibson." I think the script said that IBM part number 732015 was the cpu of the Gibson (which was the supercomputer at the crux of the film) I do believe this was never mentioned on screen. (I used to have a script)
The Real IBM part number 732015 I believe was the first cpu they made. However, If I am wrong then oh well its been years since I was asked this question. (one forgets that IBM is International Business machines and has been around over 100 years).
And I was waiting for them to use 'Hackers' surprised they didnt until now. Guess the Gibson Case was too obvious even for me.

I got the same email... is it just me or does that sound familiar? A quick Google didn't turn up anything but there is still that nagging suspicion...

I always thought that IBM part 732015 was just a joke, and didn't actually MEAN anything. Interesting point, though.

Gibsons new Friends

Has anyone else noticed Gibsons new Twitter ppl that he's following

Quote:
Brent Spiner
Neil Gaiman
Cory Doctorow
Wil Wheaton

From what I can tell they are all Real Life ppl, with HUGE amount of followers.

I did a quick Google for all the names in one search and most of the results were stuff like "Top [XX] Uber geeks to follow on twitter"

Beat me to it, slasher Razz

Looks like there's two sets of letters that I can see.

Also, we might need to speculate that Vengeance and V aren't the same person, since we've been getting e-mails from both of their e-mails. Also, there is no 'heavens.gov' site.

*edited for clarity*, email's from VSPLATheavens.gov, prior taunting e-mail that's the text downloadable above is from vengeanceSPLATheavens.gov, and they might not be the same people. Or they're using two e-mails.

Pancito, want to get a cleaned up version of the red letters? Also, good catch with the first 'cleaned up -' I hadn't noticed those.

I've been keeping up with this thread for a while, but haven't had anything helpful to offer.

I got the same email from V today as well. I'm not so good with ciphers or codes, but the quote and the picture title caught my eye.

Quote:
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step...

From the Chinese philosopher Lao-tzu.

Quote:
In the Beginning

Perhaps from the book of John? "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (NASB, KJV) It seems off-base, but with a domain like heavens.gov, it might fit.

Just throwing some stuff out there. Don't know if it will be relevant or not.

I got the email too. Weird enough to make me take a second look at it from a "big computer". Smile

I got it too. Is it just me, or does the green and red layers look like a playfair cipher?
