Similar triangle in the map of active cities:

Perhaps the fax is an encoded version of Chuck's route for the Food Tour. Could the rebels be planning to assasinate Chuck? D:

Like this?

Sorry to jump in here, I just kinda fell into this whole thing a few days ago.

But I couldn't help but notice that if you look at a regular map, the star in this image seems to be pointing to Pukaskwa national park in Ontario.

Hmmm.

I don't think that's a dead drop (doubt they would drop in the middle of a park Wink ) but I'm not going to completely mark it as insignificant at this point.

It might also be worth mentioning that the name of Pukaskwa Park/Pukaskwa River has something to do with bones. This sort of connects it to the dice with the black star shape on them on the "A New Place" page of the "A Reasonable Haven" scans, in which dice are referred to in the emphasized line "roll some bones".

I know this is all very iffy, but maybe it'll get someone thinking in the right direction. ^_^;

Which puts the thumbprint around Madison, WI and the Star around Rock Rapids, Iowa not far from Le Mars, Iowa.

That looks a lot more likely than the other way around. The star in IA as opposed to Canada.

I'm going to be in Madison tomorrow. If there is a dead drop that needs to be picked up, send me info. telemeliaSPLATvtext.com

Can someone post an overlay of the triangles on a complete map, so we can see exactly where the star lands? Looks closer to Spirit Lake, IA to me?

I live in Madison and know the city rather well if a pick up needs to be made as well.

I'm at jaushua_tSPLATyahoo.com

So there is a Blackstar facility in Rock Rapids or Spirit Lake?

Well, some of you guys looking to pick up a drop could always call Mike and tell him about our speculation and see if he says we are on the right track...

Surely you know what I'm referring to...

Better Map

I've created a better more accurate map from all the info we have. You can see a small picture of it below:

To see a larger version click here:
http://www.blessedblogger.com/images/GoogleMapLarge.jpg

And to see the map through Google Maps with all the notes click here:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&msa=0&ll=43.818675,-90.769043&spn=6.736756,14.150391&z=6&msid=114812127997633044011.00045de10dd3bb432f831.

According to this map, the Star is located at Spirit Lake Iowa (Not far from Le Mars) and the Thumbprint is at Madison Wisconsin. This could be a clue that Mars Madison is a rebel, a target of the rebels, or a potential rebel recruit. It could also mean that the rebel base is in Spirit Lake or Madison. It could also mean nothing.

I hope this map clarifies some things and will help us figure this puzzle out.

Spent much time today flying over the area in Google Earth, not much to say. I was hoping the PMs might have planted a Panoramio picture. I didn't find one.

Regardless, I think the fax as a map overlay is probably not right, simply because the outside symbols are in a perfect rectangle that just happens to be in the same proportion as a 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper (within the margin of error I get from measuring off of a printout of a scan of a fax). To me it just doesn't feel right that a map overlay would be so regular, unless the corner symbols are intended to line up with latitudes and longitudes, maybe, but still that leaves the standard-paper-size proportion thing to be explained.

Agreed. If this is meant to be overlaid on something, it's probably one of the charts since they're square--most likely the one on page 26. In the booklet thread we've found that the '84' box is highlighted, and possibly 'A', 'T', and '2010' as well.

Heh, I was the one who did that overlay. Darned if I can make anything of it yet though.

It also lines up with the page edges, but no luck there either.

Taking the bus back from work it occurred to me that maybe the thumb print indicated that's where you should hold the image down while maybe rotating it, with the 'X' on Milwaukee, or some other city, or maybe... Fermilab, which I noticed is almost exactly on the line between Milwaukee and Decatur? Problem with this is we don't have anything to indicate the right scale.

Right, and with the variation in maps and inherent inaccuracy in trying to determine where the star points--if we assume the orientation used in the maps farther up the page--it would be extremely difficult to determine the intended location/direction. Which the PMs probably wouldn't do, since so far all of the puzzles have been relatively concrete and involved very little speculation.

I'm not ready to give up on the idea of the overlay aligning with the map in M-ARH yeah, but it's probably too early to know what to make of it.

Back to the "84 at 2010" discussion...

"84" originally referred to the specific book in the library -- the 1984 edition. How many pages did that book have? If it was a large reference volume, perhaps it was more than 2010 pages and we should look for clues there?

Who physically found that book, and do they remember how big it was?
