ChuckDideEate Celebrated the opening this afternoon with Mayor Vincenta Cruz, members of the Decatur Tourism Squadron, and Big Brass Industries.

Mike said to pay attention to Chuck this week, and we just got this fax - AND the fax matches up with the mayor's league like onedreamofsleep said. Handbook says Mayor's League was founded in ACT 3 - anyone know off the top of their head when that would be our time?

Now that it's done I don't see how it could be useful, but still a nice thing to share.

Umm, good job. But that was already over on the wiki. http://mymilwaukee.wikibruce.com/Image:A_Golden_Map.jpg And on the forum somewhere back on the 88 page beast before that.

Re: Barcode

The more I look at the 'thumb print' the more it looks like a 2D barcode (a data matrix code, possibly PDF417) to me. Like the kind you see on shipping labels. I've run it through a couple barcode decoder programs and this is what I got.

I wish I had more time to play with this but I'm super busy tonight. I'll mess with it some more later tonight.

If you're curious you can read up on the various barcode types here: http://www.adams1.com/stack.html

Does the program you're using work for ones like this? That's what it reminded me of when I saw it. That and QR codes.

Just got off the phone with Russo-

I told him I received an odd fax today, which I thought might be Milwaukee related (due to the symbols on it matching those found on Dark Dollars). He seemed surprised, and appeared to know nothing about it. Then he asked what exactly was on it... I mentioned the symbols again, and the odd thumbprint looking thing in the center. He got interested, and asked if I had been giving out my fax number recently. I told him I had, actually, to a Milwaukee number. He asked where I found this number, and I told him it was found hidden in a library. Then he started to open up a bit.

He said he shouldn't really be talking about this, but that he thinks I intercepted a rebel communication. He says the rebels are very cautious, because communications are often monitored, so they prefer to send messages 'old school'... faxes being old school, I suppose. He then continued on to tell me, again, that he really isn't the person to talk to about this. But that I can forward the fax over to him, and he might be able to take a look. Though he warned that any actions I take may have consequences. I told him he seemed to be trustworthy and helpful so far, and he reiterated that he's just a lowly mid-level executive. Finally, he noted that if I share this with anyone else, NOT to let it get into Blackstar's hands.

He really seemed to stress the point that there are other folks we can communicate with. I think perhaps, as far as the fax goes, we should consider who else out there might have info on the rebels. We should tread carefully though... he also stressed the point that different rebel groups don't necessarily play nice with each other, and that there may be repercussions to what we do in this world.

Long story short, the fax IS a secret message of some sort. Whether or not we can decode it on our own, I don't know.

Has anyone verified that each of the faxes received is identical? It's possible that the "thumbprint" shape is meant to hint that there are unique variations. Probably a stretch, but maybe worth looking into.

Maybe we should give the info to Mars. She is freelance, dosn't work for Blackstar (yet). Although she seems to be having a change of heart, she was planning to speak to Lipps today...

So we're most likely communicating with... rebels?

Alright, let's take a few steps back. We first got in touch with them through the youtube video, right. This video was found in the thisismymilwaukee.com source code, meaning that the rebels (supposedly?) hacked in there and left this trail message for us.

The rebels must also be the ones to have left the note and wanted to have a way of contacting us through means of fax. it's pretty appearant that the rebels are supposed to be located in new york (I would assume? Considering everyone else are actually replying through milwaukee-registered phonelines, only the rebels so far seem to be in new york, part from the actual movie being made).

We're still left somewhat in the dark on what we're supposed to do with the fax, however, we do have their faxnumber, don't we?
Question: Has anyone tried faxing them back? Or do you suppose once we do crack the code of the fax, we're supposed to fax back the result?

Maybe we're supposed to use the "dark dollar" assignment code in the pamphlet to organize the figures on the fax in certain ways, and fax that back to the rebels as a form of line of coded communication.

Just tossin random ideas out there. I'd wager faxing them would be worth trying, though.

I was thinking this too. Don't have a working scanner atm... anyone else receive one and able to upload?

I'd think that sending a fax back would be iffy. It came from a FedEx/Kinko's in Manhattan, and unless someone in-game works there, it'd likely be discarded.

Yep, after that convo I figured that the rebels must be trying to make contact, and via the video/drop we stumbled into it.

But I don't think that they're supposed to be from New York... all talk thus far is about the rebels existing inside Milwaukee. Any New York locations, fax numbers etc. are most likely an unfortunate side-effect of the PMs being located there. Which is why I don't think we're supposed to fax back... not to mention that the fax was simply sent from a Kinkos.

If we're supposed to be talking to someone we already know, Mars would seem the most likely person. Though if anyone mentions this to her, it should be cautiously. We don't know much about her yet.

And there's always the possibility that, with all this sudden rebel talk, the rebels can be reached somehow.

I really think this will work:

If you zoom in really far, towards the X, and highlight the whole blob, if you copy and rotate it transparently using a picture editor(even paint), numbers will randomly appear(they look digital style). I've also gotten an arrow and a butterfly like shape.

Though most of my results are random, I believe if you use the Dark Dollars arrangement(same symbols in the corners), it will tell us exactly how to rotate two copies of the images and overlay them exactly to form a number/message.

It would be easier if you had two large transparencies IMO.

Thoughts? Someone with more time and better tools want to try this?

Yeah, she wrote somebody today about how Blackstar isn't as bad as she originally thought -- after talking to Lipps.

Yes.

I've found three independent faxes thus far, all identical. None, btw, have the weird dots we've been fussing over. Still I'd be glad for more to get posted here.

Posted this in the M:ARH thread. It didn't rouse too much excitement but that X placement seems to be pretty well sited to fit on the p.26 grid.

Just want to say, you're doing good work on the p26 problem. Eventually this will turn out to be important and I think you'll be in on the discovery.

Don't send the fax to Mike.

Consequences to in-game moves...

I'm of the mind that no one should send The Fax to Mike. He is our most friendly and informative in-game character. His job is already tenuous. Sending him a rebel fax when he might be under more Blackstar surveillance than he knows... seems like a good way to get him good and dead.

But if we are going to enlist someone in-game to help with The Fax, who else should it be? Or can we get what we need from Mike without sending it to him? Either way, I think we should hold off on sending it to him for at least a couple of days, see if we can get something else cooking in Milwaukee.
