Tweeted him that message, Dr. Lily, but I'm not sure it went through, since Twitter just barfed and died.

Yay technology!

In one of the maps I made, the "X" was closer to the curved windows on the SW corner of the art museum. Just outside -- near the bushes. Can you take a peek there?

Makes sense!

Awwww, nuts. Maybe Cool Dog will make an appearance at the parade?
Thank you, robblatt, for trying your investigation skills.

NYC Dead Drop Report

My friend from work and I also ventured to Central Park. We stumbled upon Robblatt when he was scoping out Cleopatra's Needle.

Undaunted by the signs, we ventured into the baseball fields (although, why the PM's would wish us to risk getting sent to Central Park groundskeeper jail did cross our minds)... we only looked at Baseball Diamond #3 (where the X seems to indicate). There were no bases to look under. The pitcher's mound revealed nothing, the home plate couldn't be moved, and there was nothing underneath any of the benches. I also ventured out further into the field, but I saw nothing but grass.

We checked out other things around the baseball field. Benches, garbage cans, etc. But, we didn't find anything. When we made our way over to Cleopatra's Needle, that's when we found Rob, and you know the rest.

I took some pictures and video, but there's really nothing of importance. I'll get it posted as soon as I get the chance to rip them from my camera to my laptop. Since I skipped out of work today, I'll have to do it at home tonight.

On the bright side, it was a nice adventure, and it was nice to enjoy the park on one of the last days before it will be too cold out to enjoy the park.

Aside from meeting Big T, it was a fruitless search. Unless it snows 6"+, the ball fields are closed (Big T will report on the fields, he went past the fencing, I did not) until Mid-April. We searched around Cleopatra's Needle, the south west corner of the Museum (M as it was referred to in my Tweets) and the castle nearby.

Perhaps there is something that we missed, but we searched high and low. I'm uploading photos to my flickr page at the moment.

I'm not following this game. But I've been in Central Park on New Year's Eve for the past several years. The most important piece of information I can give you about Central Park on New Year's Eve is that there are cops everywhere. The New Year's Eve run is a big event, there are great fireworks, there are bands or DJs playing ahead of time... and it is one of the best places to bring in the New Year. The run is short as it goes around streets inside the park. Lots of people attend just for the party and the fireworks so there are lots of people around as well.

I wouldn't plan on trying to sneak around the park that particular evening. There are lots of people and, as I said, lots of cops. New York City cops don't tend to have much of a sense of humor. We went through similar discussions about digging in Central Park for Perplex City. I'm willing to bet the PMs aren't going to bury anything in Central Park. Heck, even regular new yorkers will interfere if they see you trying to dig up anything, particularly a closed baseball field that they or their kids will probably use in the spring.

If this is a promotion for nuts..although isn't Milwaukee about beer? Open alcohol is prohibited in the park...anyway if this the about the sponsors of the fun run....maybe something will happen.

Just FYI, as well, the baseball fields aren't that close to the Metropolitan Museum. Maybe you need to check the information again.

(Also, unless this is new, there isn't a parade in the formal sense of a parade. People wear costumes, mill about and then sometimes run in them, but not any special organized parade that I've ever seen.)

Yes, we also went to the castle, which is south of the baseball fields across the small body of water. Nothing to be found there, but we did get to climb to the top and see a beautiful view! Smile

I wouldn't bet that this is a promotion for nuts, as the Jan. 1 date isn't the only date we have. The timer on the MTC website is counting down to Jan. 16.

I think the babies got the drop (again). Smile

Heh... or maybe Balto the Wonder Dog:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balto

(the only statue of a dog in Central Park)

So with the new information with the maps, have we decided that the Central Park drop was a step in the wrong direction? It seems too perfect to be completely wrong, but the other maps seem to make sense as well...
