lol, I quoted an e-mail that same way when replying to it today... " so and so wrote: lots and lots of words and stuff"

If you're saying that I was saying: "Everybody jump in! Toss around some ideas! Let's see what works! But let's not get carried away!"

Then you are correct =)

All that said- I completely agree that slowing down and backing up is needed. My suggestion: use your 5 Ws.

-WHAT do the Chart and Fax and SF Drop represent?

If we go with a MAP:
-WHERE does this map lead us?
-WHY does it lead us there?
-WHEN are we supposed to be there?
-WHAT are we supposed to do there?
-(and possibly)WHO are we supposed to meet there?

At the moment, I'm only as far as maybe somewhere in Central Park, maybe on the 1st of January (because of the solution to the second chart). Maybe on the Great Lawn (though the X doesn't have to mean 'look here').

Given that the PMs aren't breathing down our necks about this- we probably either have some time to work it out, or we're on the right track. Either way, I'd love for someone to present a different theory, or put forward anything new that upholds/discounts what we've got so far.

We didn't expect anything from the foray to the Great Lawn the other day, because I don't think anyone thought it was really another drop. What we found out was that the Great Lawn was closed for the season, which was totally unexpected.

If we say the solve is correct, and we have an X on the Great Lawn in Central Park, and the other solve points to midnight on Jan. 1, 2009, then we have a place and a time. That would imply that there will be some sort of happening there at that time.

The evidence against such an event happening at that place and that time is:

1. The Great Lawn is closed to the public until April, so going to the general area of the X is against the law.
2. At midnight on Jan. 1, there will be a large police presence in the park for the midnight run.

I suspect the NYPD will detain and arrest anyone trying to do anything on the Great Lawn at that date and time.

So, do we have the date wrong? Well, once the webpage at the thisismymilwaukee.com was found, we got nothing more about it from the PMs. In fact, Russo hinted to someone here that the number on the webpage was the end of that particular puzzle. I suppose we could reexamine the number on the webpage as something other than pointing to the Unix Epoch Time thingy (google is my daddy).

Or do we have the place wrong? I don't dispute that your solve is compelling, well reasoned, and neat. I've been looking at the fax + map alone and seeing if that can go anywhere else besides where you've placed it. I haven't found it yet, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't look.

The third possibility is that there is another puzzle line that we're overlooking. Are the PMs waiting for something to be discovered or solved before letting out the next piece? I've inquired about the jobs and gotten nothing in return. Now I'm writing up a resume and cover letter to send. By my count, less than ten people here have applied for any of the jobs, yet that was a major mailing that went out. What other avenue hasn't been explored? The Facebook accounts are quiet, Chuck isn't tweeting, and we're arguing among ourselves.

We've got two weeks until the theorized happening. Is that two weeks of downtime? If so, that's a much slower pace than things have happened thus far.

FWIW, the great lawn opens again once there is 6 inches of snow, but only for cross country skiing. Not that I think they expect us all to don skis and solve a mystery, but the lawn will reopen.

Leo's Hair 2010

I just found the website for Leo's Hair 2010, visible in the second video. (Note the small print at the bottom of the page indicating this former name.)

http://www.hair2010nyc.com/

The address (previously posted on the forum) is 177 Hester Street, New York, NY:

lemme just say, i LOVE the idea that some hair salon might be swamped with calls from all over the country b/c of this. I know I'll be calling.

And, personally, I LOVED it when we checked whoever-it-was for the effing date stamp on the pic of the SF drop. I'm STOKED that not one but two total strangers went out and looked at Central Park.

As Eno said of the Velvet Underground, 'hardly anyone bought the album, but they all formed their own bands'.

Some of us didn't, but some of us did. There was a lot of chatter both in the forum and on IRC about a drop taking place. The title of this thread was "NYC Dead Drop" before I asked the mods to change it to something less absolute.

This is where other brainstorming can begin, and some of the the other 'W's applied. The WHAT could be a meetup, not a drop that would lead people scurrying around suspiciously. Which means we'd have to figure out WHO to meet. The WHERE may not be directly ON the lawn, but in the vicinity. The WHEN could be the following day, not at midnight. Etc, etc.

Since Russo led us to believe this was the end of that puzzle, I feel like the date is right. The question is, does it apply to this 'where'?

I'm still searching too... there's no one I enjoy disproving as much as myself =)

I prefer to think everyone is discussing, not arguing... disagreements are important, and can be very productive =)

As far as the downtime goes... next week we move into full-blown holiday season. It doesn't surprise me that they might slow things down for a bit. Also, remember that it took us a LONG time to solve that first table (which gave us a date that, at the time, was almost 4 weeks out). They might not have counted on us moving forward more quickly this time.

Speaking of wikis, I haven't seen much participation on http://mymilwaukee.wikibruce.com for archiving information at all lately. I hope people don't abandon that site. I liked the idea of there being a directory of confirmed data.

I'm still pretty fond of overlaying the map from the SF drop onto the actual Milwaukee. You have to rotate it, but the Y shape lays nicely over the rivers.

Here's another try.

I layered the Fax with the SF Drop. The only thing that matched up was the position of the square. I then rotated the Milwaukee map until the river was positioned roughly the same as the Y shape on the SF Drop.

The y matches the river.
The diagonal lines follow the direction of the streets.
The square fits roughly on top of a soccer field.
The 7 is close to 17th Street.
The strange partial-symbol-thing on the edge of the SF Drop clue fits directly on the edge of the levee.
The "00" and the "2 or Z" don't seem to match up with anything. [EDIT: If it's an upside-down 7, then it's close to 7th street]
The Circle and Triangle don't seem to match up with anything.
The Black Star lands nearly on top of the MSOE Dorms, which I think bears a slight resemblence to the Blackstar building in the video. (I know it was shot in NY, but we still don't know why.)

The X is not exactly, but very close to the Rockwell Automation Clock Tower.

I don't know if any of this is significant. It's certainly not as elegant as the Great Lawn in Central Park being the shape of the thumb print. Consider this a brainstorm toward a hypothesis.

That's not too bad, actually. I'm a big proponent of the NYC map, but I see merit in your Milwaukee version too.

Great. Now I can't even look at the postcard without seeing that Y shape.

i agree with much of what you're saying here, but wanted to comment on the bolded part. i am also wondering about the job mass mailing and wondering why there wasn't more response from players? did more people respond than posted about it in the jobs thread? maybe the underwhelming aspect of the response has lessened the PMs enthusiasm for this tangent? i have an email in to Lewis, Russo, and Lipps on the job posting but have heard nothing in return.

i also contacted Mars privately on Facebook about the fax but did not receive so much as a response. previously i contacted her about another issue and heard back nothing. not even a whisper.

as far as another avenue, or information that may be involved with the current quandary, we have the two numbers, 4 and 1 that were given out by the two Mikes on the night of the attack on Russo. to me, these are hiding out there in plain sight. i am currently pursuing this line of thought. there are also additional numbers on the SF piece that are being largely overlooked or outright dismissed. i think this might be a serious oversight. the tear that bisects the "Z" or "2" is no accident imho. to my way of thinking, the numbers are the most important line of reasoning at this juncture, and the PMs are being quiet because we have what we need. they may feel that any further clues as far as the numbers go might give the answer away too easily.

anyway, just some things to work on in this seemingly down period. we have work to be done that is being ignored imho.

thoughts?

Midtown/ Central Park

Mars had written this to MochaPixel; it is posted Dec 4th in the "Communication from and with Milwaukee Residents- it is the PS to an email response. Emphasis mine.

If I am not mistaken, Central Park is in Midtown, Manhattan.

Hey I hope I didn't sound too negative with my post about Central Park on New Year's Eve. It really is a fun time to be there. I don't think the police will arrest anyone for walking around, but they will be keeping a sharp eye out. I have never seen as many cops in the park as there is for New Year's Eve in the Park - and they don't even smile if you try to tell them Happy New Year. Maybe they are just mad they have to work on New Year's.

Anyway, I'm definitely going to be in the park that night. My friends run the race every year and I, personally, love the fireworks. So if there is anything you want checked out near the race or the event that night, I'm happy to do it. I just don't know about the Great Lawn as a location.

You might want to be sure this is in-game first or at least just try one or two calls. Just my personal opinion, but I'm not sure it helps anything by calling a business that isn't involved. Of course, if they are involved, then I hope they know what they signed up to be part of. Smile

I am thinking that over the holidays most games slow down. If not for the sake of the PMs, the players are generally not around to do much of anything.

Have fun!

I like the idea of lining up the SF deaddrop map and the fax based on the squares. What I still don't think I buy into is the overlay with the Haven chart.

The haven chart includes:

84: This came up on the NYPL deaddrop (though the fact that it did could still be a red herring.)

2010: This came up in the youtube video, and ties into -- again -- a NYC location. It seems entirely too well-placed in the video and on the table and nowhere else for it to be coincidence, to me.

"QUATI": This L-shaped sequence of letters appears on the chart in that order (starting from the Q). These are ALSO the letters (in the same order) missing from the sign in the TIMM video at 4:39, since on page 20 of the mammoth thread, someone spotted that this bar is named "QUARTINO." Quartino is also in NYC. *

124: The channel of the TIMM video at the very beginning. (No connection to NYC?)

I just find it hard to credit that these things have such a vague connection with an overlay.

* (It's possible here we need to do some kind of substitution -- "the Milwaukee Margarita substitutes VERMOUTH for TEQUILA" -- which might yield and of the following (depending on which two letters you "conjoin" when substituting. My preference is Ve.R.M.O.U.T.H. since this would match the format for Go.D.S.E.E.D.):
M.O.H.VE.U
M.O.H.V.U
RM.O.H.V.U
R.MO.H.V.U
R.M.H.V.OU
R.M.H.V.O
R.M.TH.V.O (note that if the "h" in vermouth corresponds to nothing, this becomes "RMTVO"
However, none of these seems immediately useful.
