But, if we think of any of the famous religious themed paintings, there is always a guardian in the background watching over the main subject of the painting. It may be that the "Man in Black" is a guardian angel of sorts.

In Amy's Cliqueme, The True Adventures of Charlotte Doyle is listed as one of her favorite books. Now it's been awhile, but wasn't there an older black man on the ship who everyone thought was dead, but he was hiding? Later when Charlotte figured out that the captain was the baddie, it was the black sailor who helped her.

I wonder if this is a hint about the MIB.

Prisoner of Azkaban has similar hints. A man named Black is unjustly imprisoned without a trial, escapes and goes into hiding. Then he helps Harry Potter. In fact, he's Harry's godfather. If the MIB is Fiske, then he's Amy's great uncle.

A Wrinkle in Time is about a brilliant but socially awkward girl, Meg Murray, with an even more brilliant little brother, Charles Wallace. Her red-haired mother is a physicist with a lab off the kitchen and if I remember correctly, her father was a mathematician who taught her math shortcuts. He worked for an undercover agency and disappeared into another dimension where a giant brain called It controlled everything and everyone.

Lightning Thief is about a boy who learns that he was born into a powerful family, and mayhem follows him everywhere.

The Golden Compass is one of her favorite movies. I didnt see the movie, but the books are about a girl raised in a university who eventually learns that her parents are two very powerful people playing with dangerous energies. She often finds herself working against them as they work against each other, kind of like the branches of the Cahill family?

Snakes are prominent in Harry Potter, a polar bear is a main character in Golden Compass, there's a dragon in The Hobbit and there are bears and wolves in Hatchet.
