Hmmm, I was looking at stroke count too for a bit, mainly guided by the idea that the single letter word with a single stroke could be an 'A'. There is a little uncertainty for strokes that are split in the middle, like in 'B', but if you take those to be 1 then the stroke count for blue/grey groups are as follows:

Code:
9 8 9 2 . 1 6 5 . 1 . 14
7 . 6 6 7 . 8 6 8 1 7 1 9 5

Nothing jumping out at me there. Perhaps there's some difference between what to do with the blue and grey parts? The single line I's are only grey, and those blue ones do always come in pairs.

I'd also counted the strokes but I haven't summed them for each group. Just for completeness sake here's the stroke count without any summing:

5413211452 . 133212 . 1 . 114521
3112 . 153352 . 44514412514514

(I've also assumed long strokes on letters such as B, E, etc. count as just one)

Hey guys - hope you don't mind if I stick my nose in here, but I thought I'd clear up something that may be giving you fits. While it won't necessarily prevent a solve, it will perhaps make it too hard/laborious to follow through on.

Just in case you don't want to see any hints, I'll spoiler it:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I didn't realize that they would use my artwork that I used in my puzzle writeup or I would have made the spacing more clear. Here's what the letters should look like with better spacing:

BE IF LI IMQ C• IKZ LI L• I• I IW Q CI
H II C• IB UF B L• RG Q IRE I XB I EQ IO

I Nwas playing around trying to get something to work out in Morse and it struck me how many of the characters have vertical symmetry.

Letter tops:
-- .- .. ...- - ...- .. . . .... - -.
.. .. - .- ..- - . -- - .-- . ..- . -- .-

Or, in Morse:
maivtvieehtn
iitautemtweuema

Bottoms"
-- .. -. ...- - ...- -. - . . ... -.-.
.. .. - .- -. - - ..- - ...- . ..- . -- .-

Morse:
minvtvnteesc
iitanttutveuema

Of the 17 letters used, F,L,M,Q,W,R (With G & Z maintaining symmetry for purposes of Morse) are not symmetric, top to bottom.

In the regular alphabet, A,F,J,L,M,P,Q,R,T,U,V,W,Y (G,N & Z for Morse)

Discounting the "symmetric in Morse" letters, the puzzles characters are 9 out of 17 symmetric (53%)
And the regular alphabet is 9 out of 26 (36%).

Probably nothing... Just something I noticed.

Ha, should have picked this earlier with how many 'I's there are, but it was much easier to see with addlepated's split up version. Spoilering for spoilers sake, in case anyone else wants to solve it themselves still.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Looking at it grouped I noticed that the grey letters were always a single letter or next to an I and the blue were always 2 letters, sometime also next to an I. Still looking at stroke count I suddenly saw how not summing similar coloured groups (like GreenWindmill posted) and using addle's grouping you could get a lot of numbers in the 1-26 range (aka A-Z). Seeing some possible words coming out, I then realised that the blue pairs were actually meant to be summed for getting numbers single characters couldn't reach alone. Finally the bits around the dots were still not looking right and I noticed that addle had grouped those next to the preceding numbers, so they would work nicely as 0's.

So that all came out as:
9 13 21 19 20 16 21 20 10 1 14 5 21
3 11 20 15 6 5 20 8 5 18 1 7 1 9 14

or

I M U S T P U T J A N E U
C K T O F E T H E R A G A I N

I don't think I made a mistake, but I'm guessing the 'F' is meant to be a 'G', giving:

I MUST PUT JANE UCK TOGETHER AGAIN

That 'UCK' is a bit iffy, but this is definantly the method and at least very nearly the solve.

I'm gonna just jump the gun here even though this last one needs to be finalised still. This one is just a quickie, one thing I tried on the previous with no luck. It's not stroke count, but once again, the I's have it.
Code:

TII H IF MI . IJ N . MV O IIO DI

Slight fix to sixsidedsquare's solve
.. can't solve your puzzle though!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

I think UCK should be BACK, i.e. there should be a space between the C and the I at the end of the first line of code, giving 2 1 instead of 21, so B A instead of U.

That CI to give U should most likely be C I to give you BA, thus BACK. Nicely done! After seeing the spacing I also came to the conclusion that dots were zeros, but didn't make the next step to see the addition. Excellent, I can finally put this one out of my head.

ETA - simulpost on the BA.

Ah, BACK makes so much more sense. And just a small kicker on my one, like I said it doesn't involve stroke counting, but there is some counting of sorts involved.

Sorry, yes - should have been spaces there. Congratulations. Smile

P.S. Can you believe I went over that bloody thing 87 times, plus had other people proof it, and none of us caught that 3+3 did not equal 7? Bang Head

Another to try and get this one cleared. This goes for any encrypted text really, but try to look for any things that are similar or repeated across it and try to tell if they are similar to anything else you've seen before.

And a more outright push, that actually gives away some of the letters:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The single letters are actually just the letters themselves, no changes

If it were:
TIII H IF MI . IJ N . MV O IIO DI

It might make more sense to me.

Can you tell that I don't have a puzzle ready to go? Wink

Yup, VHEN IN ROME doesn't make as much sense does it?! (No puzzle to put up here either!)

I guess anyone who's ready should jump in?

Maybe it was said by a Swedish tourist that happened to be passing through Rome? It's funny how with pretty much any puzzle, when you know the answer it's so easy to miss small mistakes and completely read over them.

Okay...
I'll throw out another quickie:
***********************
Find:
1) The largest 4-digit number "ABCD" where AxB=C and BxC=D.

2) The largest 5-digit number "ABCDE" where AxB=C and BxC=D and CxD=E.

Add them together to get the final answer.
