I dunno... I reckon, given that the machines have fields of babies not, as yet, plugged into the matrix, and seeing as they've already survived massive losses of power ("whole crops were lost" - Smith in M1), I reckon that the machines could survive a great Smith Invasion... When the Matrix reloads, you're bound to loose a huge percentage of the people plugged in anyway, as when the servers go down, they may wake up.

The machines probably have enough power in reserve to even rebuild the Matrix from the ground up, which would effectively nuke Smith out of the equation.

Unless Smith starts infecting machines plugged into the matrix... THEN theyr'e stuffed.

(sorry for straying...)

Without wanting to sound like a wet blanket, maybe we should relocate this to a new thread... its becoming more of a Matrix-universe philosophical discussion thingy than little-boxes talk. Very Happy

good point but I guess I was just trying to relate this whole stuff to the actual movie Smile

I wish they would make some updates, but I think we're at a stalemate until we get MLO Sad

Inasmuch as I understand that this whole ARG is Matrix related...

Thus far, it's totally not Matrix related. There are some name hints, some expected connection with the paranormal anomalies noted, and maybe a few other small things - but we're only making the connection because we know that we're supposed to. Thus far, there aren't any communiques from Neo/Trinity/Morpheus or any other unplugged folks.

I've been holding off on making 1:1 correlations with the Matrix until that part of the story appears. And appear it must, otherwise this whole Metacortex thing will simply occur adjacent to the Matrix story - never breaching into that "real" world that the two movies explored.

Which is another possibility.

k i'll ask again.

Wait a minute, wait a minute. What am I missing? Does anyone have the original way it was written at "My Work" and "My Hobbies"? Because I can't tell if I'm looking at something always there or something new.

It's definitely new, as a matter of fact, I think those are second updates already. But I don't have the original texts.

From the first time I encountered that website, it hasn't changed with exception of the research.

Of course, I just started following this on the 9th at about 11 pm.

Previous versions

Here are earlier versions of "My Work" and "My Hobby", both dated October 1st:

Quote:
Biography : My Work

I've never been a cheerleader-type and I certainly wouldn't have gotten an award for school spirit. I'm a behind the scenes sort of person that does what needs to be done to the best of my ability. Attention monger and Beth McConnell are never uttered in the same sentence. Yet, let me tell ya, I am loving the fact that I was named the first corporate-wide employee of the month. The recognition has been fantastic and my department has been great about it. Despite the few jokes here and there, it's been a lot of fun and couldn't have happened at a better time.

My entire career has been spent with Metacortex, granted it's not been that long of a career. I started with them as a college intern and never wanted to leave. Sure, it's work and it's not always the best. Yet, I was privileged to get into the company under a fantastic supervisor who, despite some of his recent crankiness, is more of a mentor than a boss. I was also fortunate to watch one of the most brilliant new corporate minds in action while the company was headed by our former CEO. His retirement was a shock to everyone, especially to those of us who knew him. While the company didn't fall apart without him, it just wasn't the same. Yet with the economy being what it is and my boss being so supportive, it would have been insane for me to look elsewhere.

Now, after far too long without leadership, we have a new CEO. New policies and responsibilities are being thrown around and while R&D is essential, no more so than any other department. So, I must admit, it's nice to get recognition during this time. My job certainly isn't secure because of this, nor is my department. Yet to have my work as well as the work of my research team acknowledged is very comforting. It will be nice once this questionable phase is over and the future of Metacortex is a little more clear.

Quote:
Biography : My Hobby

It all started out so innocently. A simple link to a website sent from a friend with the half-hearted plea, "You've gotta check this out! It can't be real, can it?" One website led to another and another and another... Before I knew it, my bookmarks were filled with crazy sites that seemed to be documenting another world. A world that called to me, that fascinated me.

The world, as we know it, is guided by a relatively complex set of simple rules. These rules are not only built on logic and order, they establish logic and order. These rules, these physical laws, cannot just be ignored or discounted. Yet here I was looking at page after page of instances that seemed to operate with different rules, ones that disrupt what we know to be true, to be possible.

Many people accept these instances on faith and consider them to be signs or miracles. Others believe that they're figments of a deluded mind or elaborate hoaxes meant to trick the feeble minded. I don't know what I believe. However, I do know that science, history, and knowledge dictate that there is a logical and rational explanation for such phenomena. They may be paranormal, but they are not abnormal.

For the past few years, I've spent countless hours living a normal life in a paranormal world. I know that every paranormal phenomenon has a logical or rational explanation. It could be something as simple as a hoax; it could be something far more complex. It is my hope, my intent, that by recording phenomenal events the logic behind them will be discovered.

Anyway, so let's try to figure out the significance of all this. The plagues come before the exodus to freedom. So maybe these glitches indicate that the Matrix is going to break down, and the people inside will have the option of being freed, like possibly at the end of Revolutions, TMO? Anyway, the plagues are symbols of punishment from God against enslavement, so maybe it's just meant to show that the coppertops are enslaved in the Matrix and that this is not a good thing (although I have my doubts about whether or not it is a good thing).

Omg, who knows? Frankly, I'm trying hard to make sense of what's going on now, and can't, of course, lol

I'd rather think, however, that the plagues were not God's punishment for enslavement on the part of Pharaoh, but rather for not having faith. Strictly speaking, it gets pretty complex - monotheism was competing with vairous pagan religions, and different religious (= political) leaders often used the might of their gods as proof of their own power. Moses' competition with the Pharaoh's magicians was a way for Judaism to better establish itself, and the continuous victories of Moses were like additional "proof" of Jehovah's supremity to the current world powers, as well as to the Jews themselves.
Anyway, forgive my divergence into theology.

Beth also mentions the plagues to Phillip "A repeat of the Plagues? That just doesn't happen. Logic would almost have to dictate that it is nothing more than an elaborate hoax. Yet one that is so complex? That spans the world?"
It's funny that Wongmo says "Logic - bad. Emotion - good."

The more interesting question, I think, is whether this has some literal meaning besides simple foreshadowing/symbolism. If we follow the pattern set in the Matrix movies, then...no. But the religous connections are never as blatant as they are in this game. And of course we have no reason to believe that this would follow the pattern set by the Matrix movies. *cough*

Ideas?

To me, the simplest explanation would be: the matrix is a continous "glitch", and only SOME people see it. That is strongly biased on my interpretation of the Ms. The world is always a "matrix", but only some people see it for what it is; even fewer can change it - I'm talking about revolutionaries like Jesus, Copernicus, Ghandi, etc. So now Beth sees that the world is not this nice, comfortable, predictable place that she thought it to be, and she is starting to freak out.

Game-wise, however, that is probably the lamest explanation of all. Somehow the plot has to grow out of Beth's realization of the "glitches" - or maybe just an exaggerated "weirdness" of reality? - so that she can take steps towards... what? Getting unplugged? Uncovering the "metacortex conspiracy"? I honestly have no idea.

So, yeah, basically, I'm of no help at this point, and - I just previewed my post and realized that I sound strange, to say the least, lol Rolling Eyes

Yanka I think you're right on it, and those who continuously see the Glitches are the people who are not accepting the program.

The recent update to the Current section cements the importance of the 10 plagues. I wonder if this could be the clue to Beth's password?

Oh, yes, I totally agree with the "glitch" thing. Either the Matrix is breaking down due to the lack of a reload, or it just constantly has these many glitches...either way, Beth is starting to "wake up." In my post, I was trying to figure out why the glitches are the Plagues, specifically. I don't see why they would be, in a literal sense, so I was trying to find the symbolism in it. The idea that it leads to an exodus to freedom sounds very appealing, and relevant in this context. Very Happy

btw, lol, yanka, I love when people end their posts with things like "I just read that over, and I realized that I sound very strange..."

My favorite ending of a post ever, that I just read on TLFC forum, posted by fuse, after a particularly strange Matrix theory: "I know it sounds like I am on drugs, but it makes sense to me and that's all that matters."
Very Happy
