Turducken, click on the link near the top of the page that says profile, then on the sidebar, there's a link that says "Avatar Control Panel." Upload your picture to photobucket or something, then put in the link that they give you there. The picture has to be at most 100x100 pixels, and no more than 20kb. If you find that your picture's filesize is large, make sure it's saved as a jpg instead of a bitmap; I haven't used Paint in a while, but I seem to remember that it defaults to saving pictures as bitmaps.

Also, that cat is adorable.

As you can see, it's too wide, I have it up on photobucket, but I can't make it less wide.

Go that website and go through the motions; I think it's pretty self explanatory. Just put your original image through there, and make sure that you choose 100 pixels on step 2. If that doesn't turn it out right, let me know, and I'll crop it for you myself when I get home from work today.
