Google'd Sacagawea AI
This is probably not in the right thread...

Found an interesting link at http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/Xplore/login.jsp?url=/iel5/5254/25188/01134367.pdf?temp=x, though probably not in-game.

Quote:
Many software tools and systems restrict the availability of information and make information integration and exploration difficult. Poorly designed tools are often brittle, because they prescribe task sequences. But in complex sociotechnical contexts, workers do not perform tasks; they engage in knowledge-driven, context-sensitive choices from among action sequence alternatives in order to achieve goals. So, good tools must be flexible $they must provide the information that workers need to generate appropriate action sequences by which they can achieve the same goal in different situations. Adapted from the writings of Donald Norman is a principle we call the Sacagawea Principle: Human-centered computational tools need to support active organization of information, active search for information, active exploration of information, reflection on the meaning of information, and evaluation and choice among action sequence alternatives. Context-conditional variation includes variation due to the worker-each worker has his or her own needs, entailing different requirements and constraints. This implies that individuals should be able to choose different trajectories to achieve the desired outcome in different ways. A good tool gives users discretion to generate various action sequences and express their preferences. As with many HCC principles, we have named this one after a person to give it a concrete and meaningful label. Sacagawea served as a guide, without whose help the Lewis and Clark expedition might not have achieved the successes it did. The name is also somewhat ironic, because Sacagawea was, for part of her life, a captured slave. The theme of machines and robots as slaves is arguably the oldest in the robotics literature, and it is still often used as a metaphor to describe the tools people use to accomplish their work. In this essay, we explore an approach for fulfilling the Sacagawea Principle in system design $an approach based on empirical study of the way in which people process their environments in complex worlds.

Unfortunately I wasn't involved in ILB, so I couldn't really say I was...in reply, I gave it some hogwash about being crew in spirit or some other lame thing. In reply:

And that's where I'm at now. A little bit too much roleplaying required for me, but figured I'd share if anyone else wants to jump in.

(Blows the dust off this thing...)

Okay, so I'm not back, per se, but I'm too curious to let this go.

I wrote back saying I was crew, but had to leave due to childbirth prior to crew assignations. I mentioned my intiation of games to help restore Melissa's memory, as well as activating axons, etc... Hopefully I will get a response.

I still don't know if there's much of a game here, but it's interesting me. And ILB was one of the singular coolest experiences of my life, so they're at least playing on a good selling point. Smile

Oh, and Hello, Everybody. (the correct response is "Hello Dr. Nick")

SWP? I didn't follow ILB, so not sure about the ILB's mythos.

SWP = StoneWall Protocol. New, not mentioned in ILB.

I've been getting some good conversation with "intimation" since divulging my handle and my work with Melissa during ILB. I've learned this, when asking about intimation's name, and why the crew was awakened from cryo:

Intimation wrote:
>>Sys:Msg>>@LarryEisner//I have one primary directive. I have no crew. I am a system layer of Sacagawea's programming. I am her crew.

So, being a system layer, I'd think what we're trying to do is figure out (1) why a ship was going into deep space (for Forerunner research? I've asked and not gotten a response yet, but it's early), (2) what happened to the crew, and (3) perhaps prevent our world's ending, or at least leave with a bang? Smile

Thoughts?

P.S. - yeah, my name is Larry Eisner. Rolling Eyes

good stuff, went to that website and note that it is not real in itself, it ends up linking that glyph, which is a forerunner glyph to the bungie site from the halo 3 viral....

interesting, either this is for halo 3: odst or for halo wars, if it is halo wars then I feel it is a low blow to use the same tactics for a non bungie game.

If I recall correctly, the Society of the Ancients was part of the Iris/Halo 3 campaign.

To those who are talking to Intimation: How is Intimation receiving your tweets without following anyone?

Intimation is still following me... why? Did "it" get banned?

I'm still following, and perhaps that's the difference? And I never stopped the following of myself? I dunno.

But I've gotten this response to my question as to what intimation's directive was:

intimation wrote:
intimation >>Sys:Msg>>@LarryEisner//Directive: Shipwreck Protocol. Stonewall host AI, maintain safeguard until temporal synchronization is restored

Also, I got this, when I mentioned why the crew was out of cryo early:

intimation wrote:
intimation >>Sys:Msg>>@LarryEisner//I have one primary directive. I have no crew. I am a system layer of Sacagawea's programming. I am her crew.

It's been pretty responsive, actually, since I distinguished myself as part of Melissa's crew back in the day.

Also, just listening to the song on the site... just a shot in the dark. Don't know if they make 'em like this still (been a while for me)... anyone try to take the first couple notes' letters and see if you get anything? I don't know my pitch so I couldn't do it.

And a definite ILB reference.

Little bit of interesting information. While looking for the name of that eerily beautiful song on the intimation site, My brother had me watch the Halo 3 legendary ending and I happened upon this

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p98/cl1432/Anintimation.jpg

So maybe were looking at a Halo 4 promo? or a fan ARG.

Nice, using Bungie stuff should mean Bungie and should mean Halo3: ODST

this looks to have a LOT of potential, especially considering it has many references to ILB (which i was never around for, but i played around a little with what was left of the ARG a couple years later just to get a feel for it)

i'm in and can't wait to see how the rest of this plays out.

in my opinion, the song sounds halo-ish, but it doesn't appear in any of the games or on the soundtracks to the games, so it may have just been specifically composed for the ARG
