Re: pathlocks

DanteIL found CQCPNIQLWSVSZVZCTUHA, too, so that's all three.

Edit: Just found RJSSGUXIOBBFLMKDRXIG, at PKRDQPXKSTJKUHCWYT. Following it now.

Further edit:

Further further edit: Which I now see has already been found. *sigh*

Wow you're fast.

Well I looked at the first set of data, and there are 29 entires. There were 20 before.
His program can scan for data but it can't follow the pathlocks automatically, so that's what we're doing. What I did was check in the data further down the page, and removed all the things we had already found, then I was left with 9 locks, and you had already found 6 of those.

I'm not sure where I screwed up but I have:

Name: Isaac Tycho Higgins;
Age: 32 Earth Standard Years;
Born: March 14, 2753 Earth Standard, Luna;
Appearance: 5'6", 144 lbs.;
Hair/Eyes: blond/brown;
Parent/Mother: Iris Katrina Higgins. Still living.;
Parent/Father: Lt. Jeremiah Andrew Higgins. Died 2780, transportation accident.;
Conditions: No known prescriptions.;

Achievements: Phd in Physics at Luna University, member of UNSC Has: Cortana Award fo

lo Project for Scientific Research, honorary degree from Qikost University, UNSC Commendation for Scientific Excellence on Behalf of Mankind;

chair at Onyx Memorial Orbital Academy, Forerunner technology specialist; Award 5 years

Latest psychoanalysis: A classic workaholic on the surface, but still retains the boyhood swashbuckling dreams of his childhood. Quite capable of wild flights of fancy, or being taken in by stories that appeal to his imagination. Wishes he was more like his UNSC father, but dearly loves his work. Avid collector, was arrested for petty theft at Sigma Octanus Museum of Ancient Arts and Technology. Charges were dropped.

I don't understand how to interpret this output. How can you tell what's new and what's been found or not?

Generally, you go by the Group number.

The new stuff is all in the "Pathlocked Data".

Essentially, as I spider the maze, I note down each new unique entry under a classification.

Abberant Data
This is the indicator that there is a pathlock here, and gives details about what that pathlock is.

Research Data
This is where the research that Intimation has been doing is stored.

Maintenance Data
These are the various log entries found on the frontpage.

Pathlocked Data
This is the result of finding, and decoding, the pathlocks mentioned above as "Abberant Data". If the pathlock doesn't start within the depth limit of the program, it can't find and follow it, which is why there are fewer pathlocked data chunks than abberant data chunks.

Story Items
These are items that S hid, and have been reclassified by Intimation. They, too, are behind the pathlocks above.

Surface Damage
These are the dark pages made by the "hostile" tentacle.

Data Visualisations
These are videos that have been captured by Intimation and stored.

Other Data
Anything else found by the spider as it crawls the maze. If I've coded things right, this should always read 0 items.[/list]

There are two different places where the word "for" is broken up between FO and R. Try this:

Actually, it does scan for pathlocks. But if the lock doesn't start within it's limit (So, for example, if it has a pathlock of XYBBDDUS, and in checking to 7 levels it doesn't find XY) it won't follow it. If, however, it does find the start of a pathlock, it will keep following that path, even if it's over it's limit.

However, telling it to search at deeper levels is... problematic. The number of nodes checked rises exponentially, and fast. Given the average number of entries is 5, to check to 7 levels deep is 5 7 nodes, or 78,125 nodes. To check 8 levels deep is 390,625 nodes, and 9 levels is 1,953,125 nodes. This is a guesstimate, but from what I've seen, it seems to be a close one.

There ya go. I got it all in the right order but still messed up what you said. I had "Cortana award for 5 years" heh

Well, its easy to find specific letters, but hard to follow paths.

Next post will be the thousandth.

(Snagging post 1001)

That was my reaction, too.

Another minor code rewrite, to clean up and stop leaking memory (Really? 1GB ram needed? Are you sure?) and we're running again. Hopefully with this latest change, we're running deeper than ever...

Sys's hidden story pieces
on TOSSED-ROUND-ABOUT

Great job, everyone!

During the last active period (for new followers of the game.. this is when Sys comes out of hibernation and tweets. All of her past tweets are logged at http://thewaytheirworldended.com/SYS/LOG/ except the most recent session, which one could scroll back to read at http://search.twitter.com/search?q=intimation ) Sys wrote
Quote:
>>Sys:Log//I have hidden the pieces and set them and their clues to become available automatically at set times during hibernation.

Our current task is to find the story pieces (gifs and mp3), that when put together, advance the story of the lost girl, Dreaming Eyes.
When these pieces are found, they automatically appear on http://thewaytheirworldended.com/TOSSED-ROUND-ABOUT/
Click the link... I found 3 of them by adding the hidden text to the end of the url with "clip" in front. Smile

http://thewaytheirworldended.com/clip-like-a-dance
http://thewaytheirworldended.com/clip-in-the-dark
http://thewaytheirworldended.com/clip-be-free-again

After a few gifs are found, an mp3 goes up on the page. There's no mp3 there yet.

So I'd expect (and hope) that more hidden text will be gradually released at TOSSED-ROUND-ABOUT until we get the next part of Dreaming Eyes' story.

Latest run through is now up.

http://sites.google.com/site/anaerin/results-1

And (As you may see at the bottom), the spider visited 104905 nodes to find all those pieces. (That's with 4 retries, so the real number is 104901, and spidering to 8 levels deep).

You won't see, however, that it decided to eat a half-gig of RAM to spider that deep, too. And that's with (quite a lot of) optimisation going on in the background.

There's still more I can do to make this leaner, but not much more I can do to make it faster.

So a quick question: Is there anything to be done with the random characters that surround the plaintext in each of these decoded strings? E.g., could they be another base64 string?

And thanks for the explanation drizjr. I don't know where to look for these other pieces, though.

EDIT: another question - can someone explain what S1, S2, S3, S4 and S5 refer to?
