We're bound to get some sort of great reaction from Chuck either way.

I think it is completely up to Relia to decide what to do. As she is clearly and understandably attached to her piece of swag, I support her completely if she doesn't want to break it. There is no direct indication at all that is what she should do. And I don't think replacing it is the same as the original.

On a META note, there has to be a hundred other ways to move this game forward, should that be the PMs intent, so I don't think it is on Relia's shoulders to make the game move forward. That is the PMs job. If they aren't moving the game forward in a way the players find satisfactory, that is a different issue; but it isn't Relia's problem.

I'm fully with rose on this one. And I vote, again, not to break it (at least, that's what I wouldn't do).

If the PMs see the hesitation, they should react to the players, not force them. If a game stalls, it shouldn't be a player's fault; there's always solutions. This is of course, assuming they've always intended the bird to break.
At the worst, if she decides to smash it, then 1) she should definitely record the video of it smashing, 2) if that wasn't the intent, the PMs should at least honor this action by having it affect something, 3) I'd hope the PMs would also honor the enormous debate this issue caused and stress for Relia, and offer to send/give her a new Fund. =P But as rose said, it's just not the same as the original.

Relia, don't break it. Stand up for the thing Smile Rather, stand up for the choice you want to make. If you don't want to break it, don't. If you do, do.

if you doodoo. hee hee =)

i am so depressed right now that this is STILL being discussed... what is the issue with taking a risk and actually playing the game?

inaction on the part of the players is not a form of decision-making. i don't want to speculate about tangents and read new posts that just retread what we've already done. the only potential risk of smashing it is that milwaukee collapses in on itself and the game moves forward from there - which is better than nothing. we did nothing for two months and in hindsight it's very obvious how well that worked out.

the PMs obviously have no plans for what happens if we simply do nothing and wait for the story to progress.

forgive me if i sound like a dick. this could always be chalked up to bad game design on the part of the PMs but from my point of view i just don't understand why this community is being so indecisive.

FWIW, I don't think you sound like a dick! But, part of the enjoyment of this game for me, I must admit, is seeing the debate over whether to smash it. I mean, poor Terry Nanny is on CRUTCHES! My first interp of that was by dismantling the base, we hurt his legs. Smashing the turkey might cause a piano to fall on his head.

But, I am also slowly coming over to the idea that Chuck may be all wink wink about this, so I am DEFINITELY entertained by the community's indecision. Very Happy

I just want to add my two cents (in addition to my vote).

This is probably going to come off wrong, but I sometimes don't get the logic here.

Chuck says "Some force of considerable magnitude must be at play, here. And I hope nothing breaks further." and earlier "... shattering it. So now ... I'm out 2 artifacts." and earlier still "I feel as though some awful choice, deep above the cosmos, has finally been made, and one of three possible paths must now be followed."

I feel like even if Chuck were to explicitly say, "Look, people, don't smash the damn CDF!" the reaction on this board would be along the lines of, "Hmmm... I think Chuck is telling us not to break the CDF because *wink wink* we're supposed to break the CDF!!"

Now, if Chuck said something like, "Maybe my luck is turning around? A beehive fell on my head, and when I looked inside, I found a $100 bill." But, he's said nothing even remotely hinting that we should smash the CDF or that something is inside it. Remember the SF drop when he was practically saying, "under the table, you fools!"

I dunno. I think it's pretty clear -at least to me- that IN GAME, the CDF is officially "broken". Putting it back together and posting a photo had absolutely no effect. Bad luck continued to happen. So, breaking it further would, in Chuck's words, NOT be a "force of more considerable magnitude" and Relia would be "out an artifact".

I think we should consider ruling OUT the theory that "3 possible paths" means "1) Do nothing 2) Shatter it 3) Put it back together"

It must mean something else, for example, choosing our alliance: "1) Tell MTC we broke it, 2) Tell Mars we broke it, or 3) Tell Lipps we broke it." That's only one of many possible theories, though. (yeah, yeah, it's much easier to point out a bad idea than to come up with a better one)

Maybe we just need to wait it out a couple more days.

Hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings out there in unforumland. I've just been reading this thread for days and felt like it was time to share my evaluation of this discussion.

Peace!

I also get the same impression that Big T has so eloquently stated above.

Big T has a good point.

However, I still don't really think that waiting is going to do anything.
Seems like everyone has been waiting to do stuff for months or at least for something to happen. It's the indecision that bothers me most.

how is this even becoming a question?

No. you don't smash the CDF. should we burn the Mars diary in some sort of Wiccan ritual too? how will that affect the game? granted, there has been little interaction lately, but remember that it was months worth of work to place the CDF in someone's hands.

the tweet mentioning TN on crutches is being taken out of context here. this was a nod to the lack of activity lately, not a clue as to the bird.

do what you will, Relia. i support you either way.

i didn't vote. but NO...

I think someone has already pointed out that the three paths thing that Chuck mentioned could probably be those three tables in the ARH handbook. One of them is still unsolved, BTW.

EDIT: Well, I think someone did, anyway... Or did I just imagine it?

Shit...I read about this far into your post before going out and burning it in such a fashion. Coming back and reading the rest I feel kind of stupid for doing that. Boy is my face red

if you're not joking, could you perhaps post photographic evidence of the charred remains?

Sometimes it's hard to tell on the internet. I think it's generally a good idea to use </sarcasm> tags if you're being sarcastic, though I'm not sure if that would apply here (plus they totally ruin the fun of a good sarcastic comment).
