 		We need something to do over the next couple months...this is boring. About the only thing worse than this is waiting for Christ to come back. Maybe Cloverfield 2 will be a post-Rapture production.

 		If that's the case, then I'd say the plan backfired. If he wants people to leave him alone, he's gonna have to fake his own death and move to the moon, or something. Though I can certainly see JJ lying to us...somehow, that part sounds reasonable, even if it's for no other reason that he's a sadistic bastard who likes to watch his fans suffer.

At the risk of sounding like a hypersensitive nit-picking geek, the final bombardment of MGP was not a nuke. 2 quick bits of in movie continuity proof:

1) camera/film was intact and not destroyed by heat/emp
2) non-environment suited rescue crews recovered the camera before its battery life expired as we catch a glimpse of the guy picking up the camera. (mayhaps only on the extended ending on the DVD)

The plan was to kill the monster with little/no regard for collateral damage, not to irradiate a good chunk of the eastern seaboard. Basically with most of Manhatten evacuated and time up, they hit it with the heaviest conventional munitions in the US arsenal. Likely at least one MOAB maybe more. (there appeared to be multiple explosions at the end)

Sorry, there are some common misconceptions that get my dander up still =) (nuke at end, Tag sattelite at end, fireball at beginning was the tanker. All False)

Also, as to it being a pretty definite ending, for the NY MGP? Likely but not certain. Remember however the manga, and some indirect viral clues, seem to indicate multiple MGP entities.

 		the satellite...
I believe I had read in an interview with Reeves or Goddard that the object falling into the ocean at the end WAS a satellite and that is what woke up the monster.

I think the same. There's probably more than one. But how the coming movie(s) and the ARE(G) would explain them, that's the question.
