Box Crash

i don't think this is in any way related, but recently when i routinely solve the box the mechanism through which the symbols move occasionally is unresponsive...

even weirder is something i was trying today...i double-clicked the symbol for "N" (looks like a rainbow) in its immediate position upon starting the puzzle, and instead of moving it flipped around into a "ghost symbol" (black and transparent with the symbol still noticeable), which rendered the whole thing unresponsive again...

is it just a flash error or something more?

LL there is right, double clicking the rainbow symbol does turn it upsideown, however i use firefox and the puzzle remained fully functional, if i remeber correctly the rainbow is the last symbol eaten by the box, so im gonna leave it flipped and try to solve it again. I do not think this is a glitch, if it is its really well placed XD

Well, i put all 7 symbols in the correct order (leaving the rainbow untouched the whole time) i then double-clicked the rainbow, (it still flipped over) but the teleport points locked up and wont work, the slider still works and makes the rusty squeaks when the dark spot moves, but other than that it does lock up leaving me unable to solve the puzzle

im pretty sure the "ghost" slider is just an error. if you click on the rainbow just once it teleports. if you click on it while it teleports then it goes dark. i tried this with another slider. i put it where the usual teleprt point would be then double clicked and got the same result.
i dont think it has any significance whatsoever.

Im gonna agree with ScottySkeptic there, i went and played around with the red queen puzzle for like an hour and ANY of the teleport points if you double click as it it about to teleport does that, so were still missing something. Hopefully in an upcoming update Mark will move the red queen puzzle next to the jewelry box so we can play the notes from it into the box.

Well, ive gone and registered to spare all here of my frequent double posts, (hallelujah edit button)

Getting bored i went and counted the keys on mai piano, if you look for the group of 3 black keys and then count the surrounding 4 keys you end up with 7 keys (most likely someone has already found this but i would rather not dig through 70 or so pages to find out, if someone has il just delete this post down the road) So my money is on the jewelry box and metal cube being tied together.

i say this mainly because both have some extra feature not used yet, eg.. the cube has the microphone which seems to have no purpose, and the jewelry box has the musical note property, which also seems to have no purpose. So there's my bet, only time will tell!

D: I'd just gotten all excited about the new "clue" but it would seem it's just a bug. I'm inclined to agree with Robbie, here... there's gotta be something not yet there that'll turn up in the next update.

Just a Random Thought

i was mulling over the lunchbox, how it repeats "i have a new birthday, i can't remember my birthday, do you remember my birthday", and i wondered, do we know either Mark's or Cindy's birthday...and could inputting their birth date on the verification page (you can select as far back as 1900) do anything special as far as what may appear on the site?

couldn't hurt to try (if their birthdays, are in fact, alluded to within the site)

Stumblings

i tried the birth dates...and nothing happened (Cindy's and Lutwidge's at least)... but i may have stumbled on to something else

previously, we heard mentions of a threefold key and a sevenfold lock...

i believe the threefold key was the lunchbox, leaving only the sevenfold lock...which i now believe to be a seven note phrase...but what's the phrase?

at the prompting of the lunchbox, i believe it is Cindy's "old" birthday... 8/25/1961...since there are only tens keys, this fits well within a plausible sequence...

Perhaps its Cindy's 'new' birthday...question is, does anything say what that is? Perhaps the date she was abducted, though I'm not sure where to find that...been checking the board but I haven't spotted anything

If the key is based on music, what about the opening theme from the record for Rapture.... Rise, rise rise and all that?

Or the date for the release of the game?

So i was bored today and went to mess with the cube again, several posts ago someone said you could solve the box with the rise rapture rise LP in the backround. So i actually pulled off solving the cube before the record ended, and the box did.....NOTHING so the record is not directly tied to the cube. I still think mark needs to move the cube next to the jewelry box!

Long Weekend

So, you guys should be proud. I originally got on this site for the district 9 thing, which bombed as far as I know, but in one weekend I managed to read all 71 pages of this good stuff, and I'm pretty amazed. One of my favorite ARG'S, that's for sure. So, anyways, I'm pretty good with music, and I'd be more than obliged to help. I'm just not sure what it is you guys are trying to put into the notes. (while I was bored, I managed to play the theme from phantom of the opera.) Although, in my last year of orchestra, I recall playing a song called "A well known sea chanty", which you all know as "what do you do with a drunken sailor", which got me thinking, should we be playing "well known sea chanties"? maybe just out of pure luck the code we have to put in will turn out to be a well known sea chanty or perhaps a familiar rapture song. I am going to look up the random sequence of notes that I read about earlier in bioshock 1, and see if I can play it. Idk, maybe it's a lead.

Here is the thing I don't recall reading. What are the locations for? What is their signiffigance? Are they supposed to be places that the girls were captured, or places that lead to rapture, or what?

Edit: Just made two interesting observations. First of all, the colors go in order of the rainbow, as you might have guessed. There are 6 naturals and 6 colors of the rainbow (since indigo is no longer with us... sory indigo) making it red orange yellow green blue violet. My second observation was even better. I happen to play and own a guitar, the only other instrument in bioshock. I've found that if you play the b string (top row) g string (middle row) and g string (bottom row) as frets, they make the same notes as they do on the site. For some weird reason, our "piano" is a guitar layout. (sorry for the long message, I didn't want to spam)

edit #2: (sorry guys!) Well, here's the thing... I meant to say b string g string and e string. unfortunately, that setup only works for the note c. HOWEVER, I've noticed that different strings still work with those frets on different notes. It's an odd convenience I think. Again, I'm just throwing this idea out there. Don't mind my blabbering. It has, of course, been a long weekend.

Need to wait for next update...?

Nice observation on the guitar "tabs"!!

When I first started "playing" this ARG that box was one of the first things that I messed around with. I worked on colors (in order of the rain bow, etc), the number of slashes on the symbols, etc. and did not get in using any other method than the "red queen" pattern. In an effort for full disclosure, I just got lucky and figured it out by trial and error going one piece at a time, as I hadn't figured out the translation of the symbols until I joined here.

So, (and maybe you'll know this one Robbie as you and Flash "talk" so much Cool ) I think we may need to wait for an update to the flash game before additional combos work (if that is how the box will open, just another sequence). Or, it could be something completely different. That's why I love this.
