The rest of the photos that carmady took are in the ship. Now we can try to solve the 5x5!

Orrin Oscar Lutwidge, in the Tollevue recordings, wrote:
There are sixty four steps in the journey's next leg, eight by eight the key, seven fold the lock

I see eight-by-eight squares on that board...

And here's what they say:

W I E E B N D L
S H H G E O D E
E T R S E O M P
T S F E D A U A
S R U I Q E E W
B ? L H E I N N
E I O E O I N H
N S F I L T S T

Time to make some knight-moves.

Preliminary thoughts:

1. Well, it doesn't take a genius to see that the question mark is going to be important... the question is, is it the start point or the end point... or both?

2. I was hoping we'd get a hint by finding a way to spell R-A-P-T-U-R-E with knight moves, but there's only one P, and it's not within knight-range of any T.

3. So, looks like we're in for a brute-force puzzle session... who's up for it?

I think there is a starting point noted here, in the middle of the chess board there is a "?" symbol, i have a feeling we need to make knight moves from that point to make any sense of this thing.

EDIT I just noticed that the puzzle box is still glitching, its not on the boat and its still not there reliably at marks home. Even if we do figure out the answer to the white knights question where the hell do we input it?!

Interesting, my first reaction was to start on one of the knights starting places now that we're dealing with a full chessboard. That question mark is pretty strange. Maybe we have to ask the knights question and then answer it...

Taken from another forum:

W I E E B N D L
S H H G E O D E
E T R S E O M P
T S F E D A U A
S R U I Q E E W
B ? L H E I N N
E I O E O I N H
N S F I L T S T

Starting from he question mark, I have been able to spell out "the red pawn lies" following a knight's path.
Figured I'd post my data for now while I work on the rest.
Have yall found different starting points, or ways to work the board?

GBEDIT - I found this website to be useful in trying to figure out the phrase.

Sorry for the double post, but something just occurred to me. The starting point can't be the question mark, because the only place you can go from that spot without it ending in a dead end if the n in the corner which just leads to nonsense words, so my guess is its the end, which then leads me to believe we are answering the knights questions with another question thus it ending in a question mark.

I believe that the Knight's Question is hidden in the tiles. The question mark is probably where the deciphered phrase is supposed to end. Once we know the question, we'll be able to solve that damned 5x5 box.

The solution is definitely a knight's tour of the 8x8 board:

"dolmens" of course being those stonehenge-type things that Lynch was blabbing on and on about back in June. It was his FAKE obsession and he was trying to lead Mark away from Rapture.

So where are the dolmens? IRELAND

And that is the 7-fold key which we have to type into the 5x5 puzzle!
Problem is: the box is nowhere to be found!

Wow... a path that takes you over each square exactly once. I had a feeling it was going to be that complicated... where is Vulpius?
