this is the point in the day where i start to second guess things.

Now, i'm thinking that we are overanalyzing things, and maybe we should just wait and see what the lead with the letters brings us.

maybe the note on the map about the patterns isn't for us, but a lament that no one else in his world notices the pattern of disappearances.

maybe there is no spoon.

Yes, that may be true. Only time will tell.

might be a bit off topic, but i have some confirmations...

in a video i just saw on Xbox Live, the development team was talking about the game.

for the sake of people that would rather not know, i will put this in spoiler quotes:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A GROUP of little sisters escape to the surface, and live normal lives, until the start of this game. One of them becomes the Big Sister, and starts kidnapping girls to become Little Sisters.

We had guessed this, but it is now confirmed, from the mouths of the developers themselves.

also:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Your character is the FIRST Big Daddy. This story revolves around what happened to Rapture since the first game, and how the Big Daddies came to be.

if you would like to see the video, in the menus on XBL, you will see a bright yellow one with the energizer bunny on it, and the Gamespot (note, NOT gameSTOP) logo. go into that, and then into the game reviews section.

if i get the chance, i will find it tomorrow, and post a more precise way for you to find the video.

patterns note
I saw this on here a while ago

I saw somethinginthesea.com before they added the external room, when it was just the note board, and the "doesn't anyone see the patterns" thing was already on it. I think it's definitely just a more general, perhaps frustrated, note that Mark left for himself.

Phil Isidore left a message. We are to reveal about rapture.
The message (abridged)
"I've got some exciting new information... I've heard about this story before, but, well, until I read it myself, I didn't realize just how much it could tie in... I sent it to your P.O. Box... ignore the source"

No. Good catch. Seems he's getting some Rapture-like info.
Utpropolis=Rapture, transformula=Adam, Patri-Arkh=Big Daddy, beast=little sister, juicer=splicer.
Now any Rapture info is going to be dismissed as paranoid readings of readers of R. Killian Quain, who I'm betting actually went to Rapture.

heard the message, and read both the story, and the letter on the lamp table.

Meltzer is right, the guy is a loon, but it is related.

Phil Isidore is a UFO nut, but the idea that something this paranormal (to that society) is real interests him.

Didn't notice the letter! Yeah, Meltzer isn't gonna take Rapture seriously, but Quain was certainly from Rapture. Note that we don't know Quain's first name. Phil says "he", but I'm not convinced. I think R. Quain may be Big Sister!

Probably not, but perhaps the one "Pulling the Strings" as it mentions on the "21 Things you may not know about Bioshock2" website.

I dunno about that. It says that Quain appeared, telling vivid stories of Rapture that he/she claimed were real and then disappeared mysteriously and went "spectacularly mad". That certainly sounds like a backstory for the Big Sister to me.

Edit: or maybe Jack Ryan. Did we ever learn the name he had on the surface?

Could be, but why kidnap all these children to transform it into a abomination such as itself? Also is Quain even female? Probably not big sister, but he/she may be a major Antagonist in the story, or...Protagonist

Well, that question remains whether or not Quain is Big Sister, or someone else is. Again, Quain's gender is implied to be male by Isidore, but without a first name, I'm not convinced.

well, with the confirmation of normal human characters in game, it could be that he/she is one of these people.

sidenote: is it me, or does the stylized window on the door look like an arrow pointing to the mail slot? this kinda reaffirms my theory about mailing in... i hope it's true...
