[SPEC] Just thinkin' about "play me" on the tapes. It could have said press play or play this, but they chose wording that's reminiscent of Alice In Wonderland. I wonder if they meant for us to take a through the looking glass sort of view of the tapes? Or maybe I drank too much tea today.

What's the brand of the tape recorders? (dont know if that one is important)

Rather than ask how the tapes were acquired, I would ask him/her what s/he hopes to achieve by sending them to us. That would seemingly lead in a more forward direction.
