It does seem odd that he has been involved. Everyone else was a member here and he was the only one to receive a duplicate tape.

On the subject of tapes; is anyone else anticipating a 3/2? Just seems that as we got two parts to the other two scenes/sessions/sections...

fun with anagrams

While waiting, hopefully, for another tape to surface that might lead us somewhere, I was playing with the reply as an anagram.

Someone noticed the other day that there's a http://v-larenz.com, which is the name of the doctor in the book (Viktor Larenz). The site is all in flash and all in German, which means that you can't use translate.google.com to automatically translate it to English. I'm not seeing any search references to it being part of any other ARGs in German. Some of us are dubious that the next step would be only in German, but then again, we do have the way the ones were written and the accents on the recordings. Are we supposed to take the psych test? Is anyone fluent enough to figure it out?

Reverse IP search shows thousands of other sites hosted on the same IP, so not much help there. Smile

Addlepated, PinkCloud translated it so I'll let her report on exactly what it said. Apparently, no matter what you put into the box, and I typed in nonsense words, it goes to Fitzek's site. I clicked on the Ja button and didn't try the Nein one.

Kudos to drizjr for the remarkable anagram. I'm very impressed that someone could come up with something so fun and fitting.

spread the word (via send message to friends emails)

Addlepated's timing was good, as I was already translating the page =)

Quote:
Psychiatric Test For Early Detection of Pathological Behavior Patterns

With this test, you can check yourself to see whether you carry psychopathological symptoms which have been determined through a decades-long series of studies into serial killings, contract killers and other psychotic violent criminals. According to legend, it was developed by the FBI, but in truth it was based on the research results of the now non-practicing Dr. Viktor Larenz.

THE TEST

A woman goes to the funeral of her mother. At the funeral, she sees an unknown man she finds very attractive. Before she can respond, he is gone. Two weeks later she kills her sister. Why?"

Please respond as spontaneously and honestly as possible. On this open question, there is no right or wrong answer. It also need not be logical.

I checked and found that http://www.v-larenz.com is registered via DomainsByProxy, but that http://www.viktorlarenz.com , which forwards on to v-larenz.com, is registered via Sebastian Fitzek's German publisher (Verlagsgruppe Droemer Knaur GmbH & Co.)

So the site is in game. But in WHAT game? One that already took place for a German audience? If for us, why not an English version?

nice translation PostLarval. And what an anagram driz. One day gone and I'm amazed.
With the v-larenz-site: maybe I can tell you what's on the site after you answer the question (why the woman killed her sister).
no matter what you type in, it says: "Check (it) yourself: Have you given approximately this answer: The woman kills her sister so that there would be another funeral, hoping that the attractive unknown man shows up there again."
if you klick "yes": "The test is positive. This answer holds a pathological logic in itself. Therefore it's not to be completely excluded that you are a potential serial killer. If you want to know more about this, you can contact the executor/administrator of Dr. Viktor Larenz."
if you klick "no": "Congratulations. You probably don't have the psychological potential to be a serial killer. Your answer shows no pathological logic. Other than you, serial killers have almost unanimously answered, that the woman killed her sister hoping to meet the man at the following funeral. If you want to know more about this, you can contact the executor/administrator of Dr. Viktor Larenz."
Both times the words "Viktor Larenz" make a link to http://www.sebastianfitzek.de/

I don't get it why that stuff is in German while being an ARG connected with the English book launch (if that's what it is). Maybe they count on at least some people knowing German which they are right about Smile
Sorry for the huge post. Sebastian's fault.

Thanks. And ack!, you beat me to posting the rest while I sat translating it =) Nice work.

So... http://www.v-larenz.com simply leads us to Sebastian Fitzek's homepage, and urges us to recommend the test page to others. Bottom line: since the domain has been registered for a while (2007) I'd guess it's nothing more than old viral advertising, aimed at the German market, and is probably not related to our tapes.

Bummer =(

[Sunday morning musings] I'm wondering why Dr. Larenz's test is about the potential to be a serial killer and how that could relate to our story.

The author's nonchalance about her character blowing her brains out leaves me feeling uneasy. It could have been nervous laughter, I know, but it surprises me that the therapist didn't ask why she started her story that way. It's heavy subject matter for a 13-year-old girl.

We checked the PO box again last night to see if there might be a followup, but there was nothing there. I have to admit, I'm just stumped.

I'm beginning to think this isn't an ARG, but just an elaborate way of announcing the books release here in the US. /me wanders off....

except that it's interesting how they chose a number of fairly prominent and connected arg community members... everyone (but the blogger) unfictioners... and we haven't found any other mail recipients.

so why us?

I read this thread and it caught my interest when you mentioned Sebastian Fitzek. I know an ARG he has done in Germany and I can't believe that this is just everything.

Did someone screw the player, maybe there is something inside?

If the tapes alone were meant to launch the book release, it seems to me that something in them would point to the book itself. In my opinion it's remarkable that drizjr made the connection so quickly. Like thebruce I have to take into account that all of the tapes except for one dupe went to uFers. What sticks in my mind are the words from the email to Addlepated that talk about providing "...ongoing support." If this was only an intro to the book, there'd be no need for ongoing support as we already know what's being promoted.

ETA: welcome Methos. Can you tell us what that ARG was like?
