Oh, and just out of curiosity, how is this not an ARG? I'm relatively new to them, so I just wanted an explanation more or less. Regardless of its ARG authenticity, I still think it's fun, and that more of you guys should hop on and try it out.

I don't really understand the rules in this area - but I think it technically can't be called an ARG because a 'proper' ARG would operate under the mantra TINAG (This Is Not A Game), effectively blurring the boundaries between our reality and the 'reality' of the game - whereas the Xi 'ARG' has, from the very start, come right out and said TITAG (I just made that up and it stands for 'This Is Totally A Game').

So, while Home could be considered an alternate reality, and this is most definitely a game within that alternate reality, I think (if I'm mistake and anyone else wants to correct me, go for it), under the classical definition of an ARG, Xi doesn't quite meet the criteria to be labeled as such.

wanna debate the question of "what is an ARG?" check the meta forum Laughing

in the classic sense, yeah, probably not an ARG... but these days, an ARG I think is much more flexible. Aside from the 'TINAG' issue you said, everything else seems to be doing a good job of breaking from the virtual world to the real world, with puzzles, tasks, a story, real-world content... It's more an ARG than some other stuff out there right now Wink

Anyway, to everyone... I've been asked to set up a wikibruce wiki for Xi, so in recognition that there are a number of other resources, even a couple of other wikis (last I checked at least, weeks ago) - is there a calling for wikibruce wiki? Would it be used, and would y'all be willing to help keep it updated and populated and relevant? I don't have a lot of time, but I could certainly help keep it neat and organized. I haven't followed Xi for quite a while (since shortly after posting an article) so I'm just a bit behind, myself, and it looks like there's a LOT of stuff that's happened so far...
What votest thou all?

Just to get the ball rolling - it gets my vote, and I'll chip in when I return from holiday if it goes ahead.

So where exactly is it saying "This is Totally a game?" just curious not trying to argue.

Ok, so the game itself didn't actually say it. That's what I wanted to know. Thanks!

in the newest video, there's a bunch of hidden text.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
behind jess on the wall with "NY" is "xijess.com" "5" and "Xi".

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
at the end of the video, a bunch of text flashes. the first is a picture of a building(looks to be a train station) with the caption "GLEIS 20" at the top, and "USED UNDER CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSE. CREATOR DON'TWORRY" underneath. after the picture, "VIDEOGAMER.COM" flashes, followed by the coordinates 41 21'59.31"N, 2 08'15.76"E , then a name "Viale Cassala", and the numbers "41.891392, 12.515689".

any ideas?

Didn't mean to kick start a debate, but will say this... I jumped the gun a bit in dismissing the ARGishness of Xi. As the days have passed and the game has reached further into the real world, it's looking much more like one.

I'm not a huge fan of the interface (doing web searches and collaborating on message boards is damn difficult via the PS3 browser Evil or Very Mad ), but the puzzles are fairly impressive. Kudos to the designers for their efforts to bring this genre of gameplay to a console.

Yeah - this was a couple of missions ago, so, again, I don't remember the code exactly - but the solution revolves around

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
there being 8 or 9 of these billboards around Europe, all numbered and with different letters - when they were all found and arranged in numerical order, the letters formed the name of a town (which is the bit I don't remember), I do remember that the name has the word 'sony' within it, and I think it's a Hungarian or Belgian town. I may be wrong.

The most recent task involves a puzzle on the AFK website, and finding a common link between the co-ordinates given.

the common link should be fairly easy to figure out via google.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
it's a sequential order type of deal. figure out what the next one will be

by the way, this is my first post in nearly two years. I initially found this forum via an article in gameinformer mag, and upon my arrival, I was immediately engulfed by this.

I loves me some good ol ARG's.

also: if anyone loves text adventure, I found a way to get past the locked door in one of the alpha rooms. send me an invite (and tell me you saw me on unfiction) and I can invite you past the door.

Does it involve taking advantage of a glitch? Cos I'm not up for that... Anyway - this is my last post for a couple of weeks, off on holiday, later guys!

If it hasn't been settled, I'd like to toss my opinion in. The third mission involved a video of a woman going from home to real life - stating that reality and home have somehow become connected.

The mission involved people from various areas of Europe going out and getting letter combinations off of billboards to put into the computer back in Home.

I think that this pretty much solidifies the real-world status of the ARG. I look forward to discussing it with people on the board that plan on taking part in it. Hope more missions come to America soon. Namely, Chicago.

Color me still undecided about the ARG-ishness of it, even after having finally loaded up Home and playing several missions. (I only harp on this because they've advertised this pretty strongly as an ARG. The billboards are definitely IRL, though, and the websites are all fairly immersive and narratively-connected in ways that are interesting and cool. I like reading Jess' messenger convos, for instance - and that I can either browse from a virtual terminal in the game, or from a browser on my own real laptop, etc.)

However, it's fun! I finally made my way to The Hub, and then also to the manhole, which just went live a few days ago. I liked the first puzzle you solve there. Clever, and funny. There are little touches of humor in the environment that I really like - the audio announcements are effective, the bubble machines that people keep leaving everywhere, and the cheesy piano music playing in the elevator lobby in Maintenance. Smile

I have yet to play any real games, but I have some fragments now, and about 4 or 5 butterflies. Weeeee!

I'm back!

Nice to see Xi expanded a lot more while I was away, the text adventures were really cool (although I had to sit about a centimeter away from my SD tv screen to read it), and the maintenance area shows a lot of potential for even more expansion.

I'm caught up with everything so far (got my t-shirt!), save for the expert challenge in Hexopolis, which is ridiculous given that there's no way to quickly finish the shop game and it often has you just sitting there for a full ten seconds waiting.
