Re: Clue 1 starting point

What kind of coding help were you after, exactly?[/quote]

This game and the PIEscreensaver. I'm not really a coder. I know a little HTML but all this stuff is greek to me. But I am a big nerd and like figuring stuff like this out. I'm just really glad they had a readme file but there isn't enough information for a non-coder to know what to look for.

Anyway thanks for the guidance. I'm going to write down some questions once I play with the file more. Any suggestions where I should post for coding help?

As far as the game goes, so far we have seen Braille and Morse Code.
unfiction has links to all kinds of online translators.

There is an active IRC room for unfiction, which is usually filled with skilled puzzle solvers.

Given the people behind this arg (see earlier in the thread for details) and the contents of the PIE recruit kit, it is a safe bet that Java will be the programming language of choice for the rest of the game. I don't know a specific forum for help with Java. You might have better success getting experts in Java programming interested in the game as a whole rather than asking people to decompile a jar file within a screensaver project.

I don't think that we were meant to be able to modify the screensaver so that the red blurry text is easy to read.

Screen saver is a clue but sure what it all means yet

Oh yeah, the screen saver is a clue but this has a lot of parts. DLT and H20 were trying to deciper the message that came with it. Lysithea discovered that the red blurry text said"

Within you without you
and when you roll over it, it says The Rubaiyat

And how it all tying into the rest of the clues like the Fish story and the symbols we are all still wondering i think. Unless someone has a theory about how it's all tying together?

As lil'e said, yes.

Read the description of the youtube video of the screensaver.

we think there's got to be a message in this for us

Read this entry in Hector's blog.
Quote:
Here's the message we received...

"Elements are temperamental and experimental. Master them and don't spite your site lest the obvious bite. Elementary my dear Watson? Not on your life. The answer is often the questions master. The journey has a beginning." ---

And now here's the clue.

Download the file

As well as today's blog entry by Hector

Now this screensaver is obviously more than fan art.

[SOLVED] Clue 2 - TextDecoder

Hector's latest blog post leads to Clue 2.

Finding Gerry's message:
Hector mentions that "our site might have been phished"
Gerry signs off as "/gerrymander"
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Put them together and go to www.pietheory.com/gerrymander

Finding the first password:
Hector suggests that "this is the same person who sent us the screensaver clue"
What hidden phrases and messages do we know from the screensaver?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The password is The Rubaiyat

At this point you can download Clue 2, which is a javafx program that decrypts a combination of rail fence and Caesar ciphers. The readme file in the zip file explains how to add sliders to the program.

The right settings to use with the TextDecoder program are:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Fence Height: 7
Rotation: 19

Screenshot of the program with the correct settings.
The passphrase is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
for whom the bell tolls
The reward:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Three unpublished passages from an old diary.

Summary for those who do not wish to download the program:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Go to www.pietheory.com/gerrymander
Password: The Rubaiyat
Passphrase: for whom the bell tolls

You got more than one diary entry? I could only find one...

There were three diary entries when I looked, from different years. All three entries appeared in the same window though.

Any correlation to all the clues yet?

Hi Fellow Slices!

I've been in and out of this game lurking, playing, lurking..actually all dictated by my work schedule...LOL but really getting into the coding clues and learning lots about Java which I knew nothing about when this started.

Thank goodness for Lysithea! Your suggestions are so helpful.

Anyway, stepping back, I'm trying to get my head around all the various clues that are floating around and seeing if anyone has seen a common thread as yet to the JUMP?

From what I can tell we have the following clues but someone tell me if I'm missing something since I've been in and out:

Cuneiform symbols
Fish mythology tied to Apkallu
The Rubaiyat
The diaries

Ok i'm going to stew on this over easter brunch but i think I'm starting to see some patterns here at least between the fish mythology and the diaries. Did the fish man cometh during the bell era? and thereby that's how we got the inventions that came from that period of time? Also, the idea that the third diary talks about a "group" of men suggests there was and is a faction in place? hmmm more digging required

Hmm...maybe that's where the guys in the blue suits come from. Are they trying to stop the JUMP?

It's hard to say at this point. All I've got is a video with the two guys outside of PIEHQ and also at the Cafe. Feels like surveillance but sometimes the CIA tags people to watch for their safety. So are they pro or against? I'm not sure and there doesn't seem to be any indication as yet. Definitely there is some bad activity with the break-in and the outside message in cuneiform.

The question is are the two related? or part of the same group? The whole Bell diaries makes it feel like some secret society though doesn't it? Did you read the passages? Scary to think they are real, actual passages...i think?

so we gots all kinds of new stuff to analyze. on the 8th the PIE guys posted a new video. looks like some "intense fellowship" between the boys until they get the bill. dont wanna ruin the fun of watching it for ya so i'll stop with this one here but eyebrows are raised over this.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1.anybody catch the symbol on the counter workers hand? it looks like the camera deliberately spiked it a few times.

hey hey..just thought of something else on my way to the bathroom and had to coming running back to flesh it out. take a look at around the 20 second mark of " the alien sighting in the woods video". are my eyes playing tricks on me or are those funny triangles on the ground...looks like there might be two of those boomerang things above them as well but they're hard to make out. i'm gonna have a gander at the other videos the boys say are "legit" and see if i can come up with more correlations. take a look and post yes or not so much...ok! gotta pee!

OK, I am so not observant. I went and replayed that video and you're right! I'm not sure so I'm going to go get a screen grab of that frame but am I imagining it looks like the symbol in the van? Another trail...well at least we are starting to pull together the threads of this story. Interesting...

Thanks for sharing!
