Hi, guys. Smile

It turns out there was some hidden text in today's update from Hector. I've outlined it on the official PIE forums here: http://pietheory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=36#p553

After figuring that out, I remember reading an old journal entry from Hec in which some of the letters looked funny. I thought it was just a bug in my RSS feeds, but on closer inspection, the update seems to contain another hidden message (or two):

If you look at the source code of the journal entry page for April 9th, you can see that some of the letters in the body of the page are in different fonts than the rest.

I had the source code open in Notepad, and I formatted it a bit by making a new line for every instance of the font change. The letters in the Andale Mono font seem to make a clear message, but I'm unsure whether the letters in the other out-of-place fonts are just gibberish or not. I've attached a screenshot of what I found.

The messages read "were being monitored help us," "tamanshu," and simply "m." A quick Google search for "tamanshu" doesn't turn up anything that seems relevent.

As a side note, I'd like to mention that I posted this here on the Unfiction message board instead of the official forums, because they seem to be an "in-game" area. So if the PIE guys are being watched, then posting a secret message from the to us on a message board directly linked to them would probably defeat the secrecy of it.

Ugh, in-game/out-of-game stuff confuses me. Sad Also, I should be studying right now.

Nice solve Oshovah. I was wondering if Hector's reference to needing more smart minds meant that there were hidden messages that we had missed.

You have a very good point about the pietheory.com forums. They are in-game.

You missed a comic sans letter. Taman Shud is another reference to the Somerton Man case (and the Rubaiyat).

D'oh! Thanks, Lysithea. I guess we were being pointed in the direction of the Somerton Man for a while now.

There have been a few blog updates from Hector and Baron this week. Hector's latest blog entry is a summary of the game to date.
Hector wrote:
So I received an email from a new slice of the PIE (welcome aboard Jake), and he asked me to get him up to speed on what we've been up to here at PIE.

In typing up this summary I realized he might not be the only one who needs to get up to speed on our little adventure. Reviewing my notes, our blog posts and video responses helped me realize how far we've come and where we might be going.

Upwards and onwards.

Baron Rude and Hector Macchiato established PIE, Paranormal Investigative Experts to pursue paranormal activity, debunk hoaxes and meet like-minded folks. We also published our JUMP Theory, providing evidence that throughout history mysterious visitations predated certain scientific advancements. We also started recruiting believers to become slices of the PIE.

When the PIE office was vandalized with Cuneiform, The PIE slices came together to translate, trade theories and support each other. It was soon agreed that the symbols were related to water, fish and fatherhood. The community associated Cuneiform with the first JUMP in ancient Babylonia. The "fish" is believed to be symbolic of Apkallu, an ancient god who rose from the sea to bring civilization to humanity.

As this mystery was being solved another was presented. Who are the blue uniformed men watching PIE headquarters? A quick search of their van revealed a strange logo and a bright blue glow. Later while regrouping at a café, we found ourselves getting eyeballed again, this time by a waitress who had the same strange symbol on her hand. The check she handed us contained another threat to back off. Do you think we listened?

Deciding to investigate a sighting video shot in our area, we got lost in the woods, at night. Baron found an odd display of tin cans, tin foil wrapped egg cartons before we were both driven off by a crazy buzzing sound (it was scary, trust me).

We barely had time to catch our breath before we anomalously received a mysterious PIE screensaver containing a secret message. This Gerrymander then sent us a link to a password-encrypted page on our own site. "The Rubyayait " "The Rubaiyat" opened this door and revealed unpublished diaries detailing Alexander Graham Bell's relationship with a supernatural creature. AGB secretly started an organization to combat this creatures meddling with humanity. We believe this is the group harassing us in the present.

Baron and I are doing our best to hold it together. But we're just two idiots in a basement with an Internet connection. I think we've stumbled onto to something bigger than we can handle. Can we count on your help?

Edited to add:

You guys are amazing I wish I was as smart as you aer. Heck the only thing I helped with are music lirics that probly didnt have anything to do with anything.
The in game forums have just exploded with dozens of music lyrics, Twin Peaks references and who knows what else. We could use your help. Smile

Baron appears to have been receiving clues from the JUMP entity, but is suffering information overload and is communicating in song lyrics.
