The equation you guys talk about as BigO notation is also the formula for magic cubes (wiki it). Its the exact formula and seeing how we are dealing with cubes it probably references this.

the hypercube image is a clear rip from mathworld

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Hypercube.htm

there are also pages dealing with the magic cube and prince ruperts cube on there.

So... we have cube volume, Magic Cubes, and Prince Rupert's Cubes, with a diagram of a Hypercube. And then the central equation still unexplained... We need a mathematician like woah. I'll check out Mathworld some more.

Re: the magazine images, "Oceanic Air" has a "Lost" tie-in.

The Lost tag on the Box youtube video, as far as I could tell, was there because the movie borrowed music from Lost. Who knows if the Oceanic Airlines logo is supposed to reference Lost, because as someone said, the brand has been used in a lot of other TV/movies.

Those ads would have cost money too.

It is strange, the likelihood of it being a viral campaign seems unlikely due to the copyright infringement. But it would have cost an awful lot for some random fan boy to do.

There's definitely enough different copyrighted material here to make it seem like this couldn't be a viral. I have a feeling the "fanboy(s)" behind this have been preparing for this long enough that they may have a bit of a budget to work with, or have some sort of sponsorship.

At this point I wouldn't doubt the connection between the video and the site, considering that the Box logo shows up in not just the Box video, but in all of Timacious's youtube videos.

There's some text hiding in/behind some of the stuff on Oceanic's page, you can view it more easily by looking at the source, but I'm assuming it's some old Lost stuff?

I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents.

If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse...

I think these guys are just big JJ Abrams fans.

Abrams TED Talks speech was all about the mystery of not knowing. And a "Mystery Box" he received as a kid but has never opened because that would ruin what he has imagined could be in it. It was a very cool speech and shined a lot of light on his creative process behind Lost etc.

http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/01/10/video-jj-abrams-at-the-ted-conference/

Direct to TED video: http://www.ted.com/talks/j_j_abrams_mystery_box.html

So these guys being fans of his work it would only make sense that they paid homage to him with the Lost music and mystery box thought. As for the HL tie-in... who doesn't love HL? Smile

edit: added TED link

I like the idea of this: an independent project that pays homage to multiple franchises and borrows ideas from them in order to make something new. At least, I think that's cooler than if it were just some corporate-sponsored viral...

Any hope of getting more info from the magazine guy, either more complete images or barcode info?

This was looking neat until the Abrams connection was mentioned. I despise everything that man has created.

JJ Abrams connection

Could this be connected to Abrams? I remember hearing that J.J. Abrams was working on a sequel (sort of) to Coverfield, check the link below.

http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/03/01/jj-abrams-has-pretty-cool-idea-for-cloverfield-sequelspin-off/

and also there was talk about not just reusing the Hand held style agin but doing something different with it. Check here

http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/07/26/cloverfield-2-will-not-be-a-literal-sequel/

and finally, JJ Abrams does like to bleed aspects of his stories together.

http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/02/02/cloverfield-easter-egg-spotted-in-star-trek-super-bowl-ad/

I don't think it's that unlikely that after winning the Discovery Channel thing that the guys who made What's in the Box would have met Abrams or their idea for the film could have gotten to him.

No way this can be clover field related at all. Also did you guys watch the video they submitted to mythbusters on their youtube account? The video HAD THE BOX show up in it. So was that shameless self promotion or what? I just don't see how scifi can be cloverfield related. You saw the spaceship and advanced technology used in the film.

Advanced tech, yeah, but I thouht that was just a fancy helicopter, not a spaceship.

I had an engineering major friend of mine take a look at the equations. He says the top one, with the dx.dy.dz such was just random crap. Nothing real.

I'll have my math major friend take a look as well when I catch up with him.

Well the video did use lost music I'm in agreement with other guy I don't like Abram's work. But this video seem pretty cool. Also not that it really maters 13 seconds into the video did you guys notice was it red blood on his glove? Or was it something else? Also didn't it have worst accident since black mesa? So it has to be half life related.

Not necessarily. It is an indie-project I'd assume and they've stuffed dummy-soundeffects in there because they couldn't afford to record real ones yet just for the trailer. Explains that they "stole" the music from Lost aso and the HL2-thing.

I'm of the opinion its just a group of guys that are putting something fun together. They took from Half-life and Lost, and I really doubt that they are planning a real crossover of the two. That would be too weird even for them.

I was pretty sure it was blood, yes. probably hit something when he fell after... whatever he was waking from?

Well my point was because it said worst incident SINCE BLACK MESA. So it has be half life world. If I took a wild guess I would say box is some type of portal mechanism closes/opens.

Yeah I already noticed that. It seems like self promotion for this project.
