the map idea, again

So, yeah, not to keep throwing this out there, but I've really been thinking that the arrow is a map slice from somewhere within the 62 longitude degree (a surprisingly large area, that roughly traces the border between pakistan, afganistan and iran). If you look at the smudges in the line, they roughly line up to where the border line is drawn. As such, I think we have a shot at placing this image to a map, and hopefully (with some google-earth-fu) getting a set of lat/long coordinates for the three arrow positions.

Now, that having been said, I do recognize that this is way more of a daunting task than what I've spelled out. Even if we are able to get an exact fix of a map slice, the arrows in the picture don't completely align, we don't know to what degree of accuracy we need the coordinates, and we also don't even know if the arrows relate to the slice, or if so whether we need a set of map coordinates. Clearly we need more information to proceed. I do, however, strongly believe that this slice is from this part of the map, and that this will save future legwork should more info come out.

With that having been said, I'm off to class. Best of luck throughout the day.

Just tried them all. As it would be interesting to access, I don't really think that it's meant for us.

dudes, just use google

the "uh uh uh, you didn't say the magic word"
and the please = who are you, dennis nedry?
are a reference to JURASSIC PARK

from imdb.com:

Dennis Nedry: [on computer] unh-unh-uh, you didn't say the magic word.
Ray Arnold: PLEASE! GODAMMIT! I hate this hacker crap!

dude just use WikiBruce, It's been on there for ages.

Also about the ftp... I don't think its a lead. You're hacking into the ftp that is used to upload the website onto the site. Hacking is illegal people.

Maybe. But standard ftp login message isn't "Please tell me who you are".

don't be so pissed - i am permanently checking wikibruce - you won't find anything about a jurassic park reference there.
of course the sentences are there.
i was just remarking that i think it's senseless to try and hack the ftp and that a dennis nedry research might just be senseless

if you obtain through the riddle a valid ftp login - ok
but i think hacking is not so cool in that case

I'm sorry, you're right, its not on wikibruce.

anyway... when I connect to the ftp using telnet (to get the raw text):

220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep] [TLS] ----------
220-You are user number 48 of 100 allowed.
220-Local time is now 15:36. Server port: 21.
220-This is a private system - No anonymous login
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.

I don't see anything close to "tell me who you are". It can be your ftp client making the login process more readable.

the line is just shown when you try to login as anonymous

[R] USER anonymous
[R] 331 User anonymous OK. Password required
[R] PASS (hidden)
[R] 530 Please tell me who you are

but as you can see from the login message anonymous access is not allowed, so that's why the ftp is asking you "please tell me who you are"
