There have been a few different codes in which we've had to divide by x and then do simple substitution for. Been a different number each time, but the PM seems to be fond of them. We found Bricker's email that way, as well as a code that TT sent us early on.
That said, the Hazeltine Report is only as IG as the blog goes, in my opinion. Email address has been confirmed as one of the Watchers, since it did send back that map.

OK. The numbers-code is a good reason to assume that it's a watcher. The use of the map isn't clear yet. And the reply enigma send

Did a little wiki updating: [...] other than that, what do people want most on the wiki? I'll try to get to those first.

Hurray for the update! What I would like to see on the wiki:
- A summary of the manuscript (I figured some things out from the character descriptions as well).
- A summary of the story so far, in chronological order (how it has happened, not how we/you found out about it)

These two could be combined of course. They should be pretty short and only contain the essential things (as with all good summaries Wink ).

It is pretty clear that "Brightman" is Alcatraz. TGATT even mentions the Native American occupation in 1971, which is something that actually happened at Alcatraz.

OK. That sounds plausible. But what to do with that info?
The Brightman got closed, so there is nothing to find there.

I just noticed there is an "I" or "1" ( I think it's an " I ") at the left bottom of the black and white "brightman1.jpg". Maybe it's a series?

I knew I remembered something about the native Americans. And they have that sunrise gathering every year. I wonder if that's going to coincide with that Sol theme we had?

For the wiki, I mostly want to see the blogs and contact info for each character on the character pages, but you're probably already doing that classi. Haha.

Seems very probable, especially the source code says to "wait for it here". I'll keep checking it when I remember to...

the square tower in brightman1.jpg may be a square tower at Hovenweep

Tower functions are subject to speculation, as they have limited access, contain few windows and many have narrow slots or peepholes placed in the walls. Towers are often linked to a kiva, generally through a tunnel, suggesting they may have been used for ritual functions. The slots and doors of Hovenweep Castle, in Square Tower Group, have been shown to define an apparent solar calendar. The building is aligned so that light is channeled through openings into the building at sunset of the summer solstice, the winter solstice and the spring and fall equinox. The light falls in a predictable pattern on interior door lintals.

If anyone is interested.. I don't know if the song itself is relevant at all or not.. I found a crystal clear copy of Twilight Time on youtube.

ha - this is rich - it's a coincidence, okay - it's only a coincidence

say you're driving from Los Angeles to Hovenweep

the last paved road you're likely to enjoy is U.S. Route 491, which from 1926 to 2003 was known as U.S. Route 666

-edit-
and to extend this connection further, The Tower (16) follows The Devil (15) in The Major Arcana

OOG

Lyrics to I'm Sorry by Jessica Riddle from Key of A Minor - doubtfully in game, title just happened to have a bunch of keywords that had come up so far (kind of like grady's Lenny Bruce Live at the Curran album), and I needed a laughs.

And speaking of OOG (and laffs), since I started over (the other day) Right From The Beginning, I thought the clue bat (same day) was hilarious cuz of this. At this point, doubtfully in game, and doubtfully of any meaning except to me... but I just fell like sharing some of my laughs at this point...

.....

edit late Sun afternoon... up to p36, so I'm almost full circle now. Just got to the CptHolly stuff... not sure what to make of it cuz IMO that is 99% oog stuff. Makes me wonder if there are supposed to be "anti-Watchers" (ie, people doing what the Watchers are doing, except not helping us?) Given the "clue bat" the other day, that wouldn't seem to make sense, though. The 1% that seems to maybe be ig is

Did you know that there was an underground comic book circulating in 1973 (rumored to have been drawn by Robert Crumb but authored anonymously) that featured a full-bodied "Jenny" always being pursued by a shadow labeled "Rage" in a funky little town called (ready for this?) "Konig Harbor."

I think classical & a few other people have followed up on this... this sounds like archetypal Crumb, and it is easy to believe this is true, but again, as with all the Kade-related stuff, "so what?", I'm missing the "so what?" Of course, this really doesn't sound like anybody except Crumb (imo), so it should be pretty easy to verify - Fantagraphics published a multi-volume "Complete Crumb Comics". Somebody just get to a decent comic book store and start looking through the volumes around '73 (say 72-74) for a story like this.

Not sure that that has anything to do with the game, but their might actually be a clue, or meta-clue, there if this actually is true.

...

another edit later Sun afternoon... Basically up to where I came in the other day... yay! Will be working on an essay about the game tonight...

<Wulf> really - do you have the phone#? I had forgotten about that
<CS> It's a 605 number and when I google it it goes back to a Tonia something. I've deleted it.
<CS> In Rapid City.

clue? anybody feel like following up on this right now?

i checked a few volumes of early 70s Complete Crumb last week - nada

there were dozens of active published underground cartoonists in the early 70s - the description given by CptHolly could fit the work of practically any one them

a generous archivist offers his collection online - he's up to G - i've downloaded many of them, with no luck - i've also asked about the comic in question in the comments to the "G" post - no reply - (personal fave - Rory Hayes's Boogeyman Comics - sick)

i have a couple of other queries out - nothing definitive has come back

and again, as far as meta-klews go, while i agree that Turnage herself and the character she portrays in real life are both probably way way OOG, some or all of the material she investigates might be relevant, as could the material prepared by Brian Bricker for the EMT Instructor's Manual, which is available as a free .pdf download to "verifiable instructors", which i am not, but i suppose, for example, an art instructor at a junior college has the credentials required - i'm just sayin'

I tried figuring this one out earlier, but all I got for a Tonia in Rapid City was the number of a notorious phone solicitor, heh.

Grady, acknowledged, but we're gonna have to agree to disagree... remember, "keep it between the ditches"... wayback machine's got that Turnage page mentioning bricker archived back in '99 - so it is def not a clue planted for the game. So, it is only "background" if CptHolly is in game, because AFAICT this first comes up in CH's email to Aki.

Given the clue bat the other day, we can (I believe) safely assume that the PMs have not been actively encouraging people to abandon the game. Based on that, we can assume that CptHolly is not in game, and consequently that Turnage is completely "outside of the ditches" (meaning it is neither directly nor indirectly related.)

I could be wrong about that, but before I spend even a second looking at Turnage, I'd need a better argument in favor of Turnage's validity than simply that she "might be relevant" in some unspecified way.

... and digging through obscure underground comics looking for shadows labeled "rage", girls named "Jenny", or "Konig Harbor" sounds like a needle in a haystack. Zilch comes up in google searches for any of that (except what's been spawned off of here). (And I've read more than my share of underground comics in my time, and this rings no specific bells.) If somebody has gone through all the 72-74 Crumb Comics (should start around v8 and go for a few volumes) with no positive ID, I'd recommend abandoning that as outside the ditches also...

i don't think we should take too literal a reading of the trucker idiom "keep it between the ditches," which simply means "good luck" or "drive safely" - where exactly are the "ditches" in a text like TGATT or the ambiguous "clue bat" of a few days ago? - we're looking for something in a beater RV full of dancing girls and dudes with typewriters and Dennis Hopper at the wheel? - what does that mean? - is anyone here really pickin' up on what they're layin' down?

so here's something - Brightman Institute of Mental Health is referenced in the Wikipedia article on the Works Progress Administration - here's the diff showing the article pre and post BIMH insertion, which occured on 1/21/09
Quote:

no wikipedia editors have yet questioned the inclusion of Brightman

i looked inside Freedom From Fear @ amazon - no Brightman of course
