Summer O'Nine - The Toronto Game

Hey!

It has been ages since I have been on here - but I reckon you lovely people would like to hear about a new game that sounds like it is afoot here in TO.

I was just befriended on FB by someone called Summer O'Nine:

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=55966859174#/profile.php?id=1182710107&ref=mf

And they have a group called the Toronto Game:

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=55966859174#/group.php?gid=57968818280

Summer o'nine current FB status is as follows: is sure you know why you were chosen.

I unfortunately have no time to play, but I will keep an eye on it. Hopefully it is good fun and you all enjoy!!!

Sincerely,

Star

Actually, it's only been a few months... Anyway, it looks cool. Too bad I'm nowhere near Toronto. Sad

There are two pictures posted.

One is the coat of arms of the Netherlands (Wikipedia link).

The other is a portrait of a man standing in front of a horse...is that Napoleon? I haven't found the image yet through Google.

Wikipedia sez:
Quote:
1795 - 1814 Revolution, Napoleonic years and Restoration

Arms of the Kingdom of Holland / king Louis Napoleon Bonaparte
the arms of William as "sovereign prince"The arms of the Dutch republic where also in use as (part of):

...

- The arms of king Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (brother of the French Emperor Napoleon) as King Louis I of the Kingdom of Holland (1806-1810)

...so the two images might be related...or perhaps the two together are meant to point towards events in Toronto that occurred around the 1795-1814 time period (Toronto was called York at the time...Fort York came around 1793...the war of 1812...) or a meeting place (Netherlands embassy, Fort York...)...or maybe I'm not supposed to be trying to figger this out yet.

I figured I'd look more into it.

Photos on the FB are attached. I am sadly currently in Waterloo but will be in TO around April/May.

It is Napolean, I studied that piece back in high school art class. I'll try Corbis or google images.

Translation of the French is "I will maintain." or Medeval french for "I will endure."

So now I'm also looking for info on Napolean and Toronto...hmm I know a heck of a lot on Toronto but not really on Napolean, well other than he was short and rather ruthless.

If there's anything in french I can translate a little...get the just of it.

There's a French immersan school called "Ecole Napoleon" in Toronto as well as there being a play on Napoleon in 1994...maybe this hunt is connected to the play???? Maybe it's coming back or something.

Napoleon and Company is a publishing house that has published crime novels and biographies. They even mention they tend to publish stories that:

Quote:
Napoleon Publishing is still the imprint by which our company is best known, but in 1997 we added adult fiction, (RendezVous Press) and in 1998, our fastest growing line, which is RendezVous Crime. RVC produces Canadian mystery and crime stories by Canadian writers, many of them featured on the TV series, True Pulp Fiction.

RVC's authors have won Canada's only crime fiction award, the Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel, three times in the past four years: Barbara Fradkin's novels Fifth Son and Honour among Men, and then in 2008, Jon Redfern's Trumpets Sound No More. Other best selling mystery authors in our line-up include Mel Bradshaw, author of Death in the Age of Steam, which tells the story of a love-sick banker searching for his lost love in the Toronto of the 1850s; and Rick Blechta's and his musically-themed mysteries, A Case of You and Cemetery of the Nameless.

Inside Music Books is dedicated to the outstanding musical groups and artists in our country. Hedley: Fan Lowdown accompanied the band Hedley on their rocking tour across the country in October. A book on the newest Canadian Idol, Theo Tams, will follow in the spring.

Our final and darkest imprint is Darkstar Fiction, dedicated to all those young urban adults who want to see themselves reflected in modern literature. A gala for Darkstar Fiction and its new authors, Laurie Channer and Kerry Kelly, will be held on November 24th at the Gladstone Hotel. See the events section of this site. All are welcome. Come and meet us but meanwhile, check out our publishing program at www.napoleonandcompany.com.

So most likely it's them since they mentioned near "immersive fiction" and Darkstar fiction sounds like it would create an ARG to promote a novel.
