@Daeld: The 1st pic was named "pw" & was posted to the blog. The 2nd pic was named "pw_1", but was hosted at filedropper. IE: Direct uploads to filedropper create the link with your file and the name as part of that link (EX:".com/pw_1"). But if you look at the src on that page you can see that filedropper automatically assigns/overwrites the name with a string in this format (EX: ".com/second/759cc207c0230e71078f17a191c346b2.jpg"). hehe hopefully you didn't spend too much time trying to decrypt that Wink

the last posted seems correct (even though it is speculation).

"Find Him" is hilarious... & I agree that this is a logical solve, but I don't really know either Crying or Very sad

AUZ wrote:
Also I do not know how we should find "PW". We just have a photo and the initials.

Either do I. At this point the only thought I have is this [SPEC]: Korszellemfilm - Part I: talks about the Sassanid empire and the map zooms in around Pakistan (around the area of modern Quetta). The desert Diaries pdf first sentence states, "24 Kilometers north-west of Quetta, on the road to Kandahar." So they might have been on the 25 on route to Kandahar, Afganistan. Ref coords: 30° 21' 36" N, 67° 1' 12" E ---> I Dunno, maybe "PW" is "Corporal C.T. Richards, Host of the True Cross"
Desert Diaries wrote:
Corporal Richards' whereabouts currently unknown, presumed dead.
[/SPEC]

And whats up with all the hyphenated words in that document like "rad-io"? To say that I fiddled around with those for a while is putting it mild.

My thought was that PW had taken credit for those desert diaries, when they were truly written by C.T. Richards. Or maybe PW dug up the diaries from where they were supposed to have been found?

Any ideas on the numbers at the end of the file?

The 9-9-9 pattern continues, at least in the last part - but the first can't be a date - so what is that?

I have no idea how that is encoded too - because when I tried to copy-paste it into this post, it ended up strange unicode characters instead of numbers. Dunno

Did you say dashes?

Looking at the Desert Diaries...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you take the long dashes (between words) and the hyphens (joining words) and turn them into dashes and dots respectively you get this:

.--.--.....--........--.

If you then separate them according to which paragraph they came from you get this:

. --. .-- .. . .. --.. ... .. . -- .

If you solve it for Morse, you get this:

EGWIEIZSIEME

I assume that this is the clue that is scrambled, so I'll be looking to decode this...

How did you do this? I haven't had any probs with it. Can you post what you get so we can see? What OS are you using?

Ya, OK, I'm embarrased. Embarassed

I was baffled too! I'm using FoxIt Reader on Vista (yeah I know Embarassed) and the first line pastes as

Quote:
5IJTQMBDFJTBXBTUFMBOE
("This place is a wasteland.")

and the numbers line as
Quote:

I'll dismiss that as some de-/encoding issue between OS's and software. Intrigued me, though. Razz

Hmmm... Speaking of embarrassed

I made a mistake; I missed a dot:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

. --. .-- ... . .. -- ... .. .. -- .
EGWSEIMSIIME

unfortunately it made no difference in the null outcome... Crying or Very sad

I think I'll start farming geese...

after trying to find different ways to make something out of my (seemingly) premature spoilers below, I have come up with nothing.

So I combined all 3 clues that seem to be anagrams,

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
EGWSEIMSIIMEculehuetoatanhttanc

At this stage I don't think this needs to be put as a spoiler because it doesn't spoil anything (other than my time...

The interesting thing about this is that we could get a longer solution (31 letters) with words such as "Michael" or "Lisa" in the 12,994 possible words (one of which is telangiectesia...which is completely unrelated - unless Michael has developed CREST syndrome... Wink ) ... I guess what I'm saying is that the fact is that I kept adding more letters, so it shouldn't surprise me that I can spell a few words that might sound helpful but actually not be helpful at all.

@Daeld: I like your idea with the morse code. Nevertheless, you will always get "--" (two times long), which seems somehow unusual.

Still fumbling around with the culehuet.pdf - I've listed the solutions here (spoilered, or can I leave that out now?):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Listed is the title of the film, year, IMDB tt number, and - just to be thorough - director and first two actors billed according to imdb.

Once (2006) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0907657/
John Carney
Glen Hansard
Markéta Irglová

American Psycho (2000) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144084/
Mary Harron
Christian Bale
Justin Theroux

The Ice Storm (1997) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119349/
Ang Lee
Kevin Kline
Joan Allen

Annie Hall (1977) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075686/
Woody Allen
Woody Allen
Diane Keaton

Nostalghia (1983) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086022/
Andrei Tarkovsky
Oleg Yankovskiy
Erland Josephson

Hannah and her Sisters (1986) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091167/
Woody Allen
Barbara Hershey
Carrie Fisher

The Exorcist (1973) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070047/
William Friedkin
Ellen Burstyn
Max von Sydow

Teeth (2007) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780622/
Mitchell Lichtenstein
Jess Weixler
John Hensley

American Psycho (2000) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144084/
Mary Harron
Christian Bale
Justin Theroux

Night on Earth (1991) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102536/
Jim Jarmusch
Gena Rowlands
Winona Ryder

Code 46 (2003) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0345061/
Michael Winterbottom
Tim Robbins
Togo Igawa

That doubled title strikes me as odd - makes me think that there is a word or code hidden in that list somewhere.

I've tried sorting them chronologically and taking first letters, that gives you
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
TANHTNAACOT

which on first googling attempt doesn't yield anything either, and, should we be dealing with an anagram here, is pretty pointless anyway. Wink

Or, I've been trying to convert the whole thing into numbers:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Years: 06 00 97 77 83 86 73 07 00 91 03

No cigar either, because it's not anything I can make anything of. Dunno

(ETA: Yikes, I left out one from the list! Rolling Eyes )

Sorry for the double post

but has anyone noticed that the Korzellemfilm video at Vimeo has disappeared?
Bang Head Don't trout me. I didn't realize the protected videos didn't show up on the user page.

Also, I've written to the True Cross inquiring if they have any information about the disappearance of Corporal Richards.

Did this version of the DM always have this alternate text or has it changed?

I don't know. To tell the truth, I didn't know that there's an alternative page, although our wiki clearly lists it. Embarassed

BTW. Thanks so much AUZ & reasonableman. You're doing a wonderful job over there. Every time I think there's something I could add it's already updated! Smile

Time factor...

marthajones wrote:

I think this is a great idea, but I wonder if you may have to repeat this later. You see, Corporal Richards may not have disappeared yet...

It is dated May 16th with no year. The numbers at the bottom suggest a date no later than 2009. Whilst it may represent an entry from May 16th of a year prior to 2009, it would not be the first time lisa was sent something that showed a temporal paradox...so if you get no response about it, maybe try again some time in late May or early June...

@AUZ505, I'm not sure what you mean. "--" (Dash Dash) is just the normal way of encoding the letter M.

I meant that the long dashes are always apprearing as pairs (at the beginning and at the end of the inserted clause).
Of course, it could be that there are no letters used with a single dash. But it would be more difficult to encode the letter "c" or "n" with your method.

@ AUZ505, I see, but I figured that's why it is only a limited message and that's why this method is not used more commonly.

I do still wonder if the three potential anagram messages are not part of one larger message. However, unscrambling without knowing what we're looking for is almost impossible.... I wonder if we'll get another clue about it...or if we've missed something.
