There is a puzzle over on the other forums that hasn't been posted here yet. The text is a jumbled passage from War of the Worlds (H.G. Wells, again). Just looking at it, it seemed to me that the lines spell out letters -- I've removed the interior letters to make it clearer:

It would be a little awkward to post this on the ei forums, but I got a response from Cray (I sent her info on how to decode the pictures):

Quote:
Hi Nicole/jabroni,

Thank you for these instructions! I feel so behind in working on these images with everyone. I'm in awe of the work you have done already--how did you even know how to begin? I can't wait to try this now. Unfortunately, I have a lot on my mind and not sure if I can concentrate on solving puzzles. Basically, the company where Bertram and I work found the EI2 site. We had a long meeting today with the board of directors. We had to answer for ourselves and have some tough decisions to make right now.

Warm regards,

Cray

Finally got a reply from Cray I sent on friday.

I wrote:
You don't happen to have any more information about your father and Brandon's work? Something that could give us a bit more info on this cube... like if they found it or built it or something? If this was something that was found, looking into its origins may help us decide if this is a warning or promise.

In your blog, you wrote "That's not unusual, since we are unpacking the work of what appears to be four engineers (myself, Bertram, my father and the last tenant), but this schematic shows my father's cube. Again, not too strange until the source of the paper comes up. This schematic came from a box that was inside the closet of the new space when we moved it. It's not my dad's, it belongs to that Brandon guy." So, do you recall seeing this before or hear your Dad say something about it when you were working together? And, I don't suppose you could give us any dirt on Brandon eh?

Not to be nosey about your family, just curious about the cube.

Hopefully we'll be in touch.

Hi squid808,

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I was under the weather this weekend and then work today was unreal. Bertram and I were called into a crazy meeting that lasted HOURS. For the moment I'm trying to catch up with the site and my correspondence. Not to mention that I can barely take my attention away from all the posts on our forum about the cube console. How do you all know so much? I'm just not sure what to think of all of it, and what I need to do at this point.

To answer your question about my dad, he left Mom and me when I was too young to remember much. Most of what I know is what my family tells me. Apparently he was an electrical engineer and loved to tinker with things. Out of the blue he left. Mom always kept some boxes of his electronics and what not. When I began the EI2 venture, she donated these to me. Then, while I was unpacking his boxes the cube fell out and you know the rest.

I know even less about Brandon. His name is on some stuff that was left behind in our space and we've been grateful to him for a lot of it. Poor guy... I wonder if he couldn't pay the rent or something? It was obvious that he had different projects going on, but I couldn't make heads or tails out of any of it. The schematics was such an odd coincidence.

I can't thank you enough for all the help deciphering the cube images. I'm not sure what you mean about the cube sending us a warning or a promise. I mean, who could send something like that? I certainly do wonder how my dad came upon the cube and what he was able to discover.

Warm regards,

Cray

I'll be keeping in touch with her and seeing what information I can leak out of her and B.

I'm not caught up on the progress here. I'm still trying to figure out how to use the console. Confused

I noticed on the puzzle with the string like image, the "bacteria" one, that there appears to be a faint image in the center. It looks to me like cells dividing.

I don't know if this might be a solve or trout, but I'll spoiler it anyway.

Credit to mousekinn- she found the tower/pagoda/whatever the image was, and it turns out- it's a castle-

It's the Castello Sforzesco. Haven't taken the time to find a connection to everything else yet.

ETA: Just saw that mapmaker had solved over on the EI2 forums. *sigh*

Is there a resource page somewhere which describes how to assemble these binary bits and convert them into a picture? I know there's a way to do it, but I don't have the tools.

EDIT: This http://www.motobit.com/util/base64-decoder-encoder.asp doesn't work for me because it outputs an .exe file and I'm on a Mac.

EDIT2: Yes, thanks! I figured out that I could just force the extension to be .jpg instead of .exe and that works.

save as a .jpg instead of a .bin.

dante: even if you're on a mac, it shouldn't be giving you an .exe. Make sure the "export to a binary file, filename" is selected, and it should give you the option to download a .bin file when you hit the button 'Convert the Source Data'.

Got an email from Bertram in response to offering my services as a videographer.

me:

I realized that I did not forward along any links to my work. You both can stop staring at my last email and wonder who in the world I am.

I regret to inform you that due to some recent business practices, we've had to change our code of conduct around here. I suggest you look a bit deeper at your portfolio and see if you can't find something else to convince me.

Was anybody paying attention to the blog, because there's a new post with numbers? I did not see any reference to this on this thread or the IE forums, so I'll just post it up(Trout me if it HAS been referenced, please):

Quote:
A Leak...
It occurs to me, that with yesterday's fiasco, SOMEONE is onto the whole operation. Our company isn't smart enough to have found us by themselves.

I can only logically assume that one of the people following us out there is a spy. So, I can only assume the code has been cracked by THEM.

This is terrible news for the state of things. Someone wants the cube and wants the information inside of it. Who it is, I don't know, but someone very close to my followers is working for them.

There's only one reasonable course of action.

There needs to be a new code.

I'm going to keep working on the page solves.

You figure out what this means and get back to me on that...

Does anybody know why my GRID has been reset on the Cube Console? I very paintstakingly took the time to download and solve what I could, and the system still shows me (under "List") at 7 solves, but the GRID is back to showing only 3 unsolved puzzles. waah.
