From me to Bertram:

So…

I've been cracking around on your code in your blog cause I want to correspond with ya. However, it dawned on me while I was experimenting with base 16 and special Alt Key characters that this system is flawed.

If someone could break your code, then that wouldn't be a good test of whether that person is someone you can trust. It's just as easy for bad guys to break your code as it is for good guys. Right?

I'll keep hacking at your code. No problem. You seem like a nice guy, and you and Cray are doing cool stuff.

However, reconsider the idea that you are going to find trustworthy folks by way of them cracking a code. Perhaps you should get to know those around you and make a judgment call about their character within the context of a relationship.

I made a friendly offer to help if you needed it. No pressure either way.

From Bertram in response:

Oh... You'll understand my logic when you solve this code. My enemies shouldn't be able to solve this one anytime soon. It uses things I'm sure they're unaware of.

Not sure if that's right, but I sent an email to Bertram about my genes.... We'll see.

I hate to pry, but please understand I'm trying to make connections. Might I ask what year your father left? I'm wondering if it relates at all to any of the dates we've found hidden in the cube.

Also, I read your website this morning. This is bullshit. I'm no lawyer, but unless they have proof that you gave away their information, they shouldn't be able to do shit about your side venture. Sounds like capitalist mongering to me. I'd run a fine tooth comb through your site and see if you have ANYTHING that relates to them, maybe even your web host. Then look through your twitter, B's twitter and even his blog, though he won't admit it's his. Find this supposed 'evidence' that breaks your NDA. It might be just that you have released your name, and potentially your father's name by proxy that they're worried about, but you should be allowed to release your own name. Aside from that, they got nothin unless there is something we don't know.

Maybe they see the cube as a possible business venture. Maybe they don't like having no control over you. Or, maybe they're trying to cover something up from their past.. or maybe their future.

Know we're working on these pages to the best of our abilities, and we'll help out wherever you can. B thinks we have a mole, which is possible. So judge what you tell us before you tell us, and then we'll see what we can do to help you.

Hi Squid808,

Dad left in 1977.

The sad fact is that whether or not the company has a right to pressure us, now is not a good time to be without a job. The prospect of losing our income means losing our ability to maintain operations at EI2 and the cube--at least for the immediate future. Besides the NDA issue, our supervisors are whining about our performance at work and the fact that we seem more committed to our own venture than to our jobs. It's the cube that drives us to distraction. And no sleep!

Mom's legal advice to accept the deal was not what I expected at all. She pointed out that we also signed a non-compete and that is probably where the problem lies. The more I told her about what was happening the more she insisted we accept the deal.

I hope you're right that they see the cube as a possible business venture. Recently I got the idea that maybe B and I could negotiate a raise out of this? Hard to wrap my head around any cover up ideas, but if that were the case I'd sure like to be on the inside. You just renewed my conviction that B and I should stay as involved as possible and keep posting everything we can. Mole or not…we want it transparent.

Thank you!

Cray

Squid you seem to have a great dialogue going with Cray, do you think you can ask her if she knows what her father was working on in 1980? I sent her a direct message on Twitter several days ago, but I guess she hasn't seen it. She must not have it set-up to notify her by email. (hint-hint) Smile

No prob, enaxor. I'll hold off till a little bit later today, to see if anyone else has anything they want asked. I'm also gonna ask her if... I think it was 37, builder37 means anything to her, since that recently popped up in the cube's interface results.

My name is Jeromy, and i'm a videographer based in TX. In time, you might find a need to have some of your events documented beyond your current technical abilities...or maybe an event would necessitate you both needing your hands free of camera duty.

I don't have much time to volunteer, but I'd be happy to come up to Denton to cover some key moments for you company when and if you needed them. I think what you are doing is very kind and good for kids everywhere.

Feel free to follow up, and perhaps we can schedule something. If not, best of luck to you both.

Best!!

Hi Jeromy,
Thanks for this offer to help with the videos. So far we've been okay with Bertram's camera, the webcam, a phone camera and I have a little Mino with a mini-tripod (Christmas present). With things the way they are right now I don't know what we'll be doing. If it's okay, though, I'll hold on to your contact info. You never know…
Ha, if you are half as good with a video camera as you are at deciphering the cube images we should have hired you from the start!
Best wishes,
Cray

Hey Cray,

Sorry to hear about the drama with work.

I'm not sure what to tell you about all that. I don't even know what you do at your day job. I've watched all of your vids several times, and there's nothing there to my eye. I think I'm with Bertram on this, if your mom is such a wolf, then why so sheepish now? I think it's nice to have faith that your mom has your interest at heart, but I do think you are an adult…. And as one, it should be ok to ask your mom to explain her perspective to you. If you do give in to the company, I hope it comes with a hefty raise.

Do you have the NDA? If not, could you request it from your office? I think you should have an attorney look it over.

In the meantime, it's obvious that your office is crawling around on the site, so be careful what you put out there.

Hang in there.

Jeromy

Hi Jeromy,

I feel stretched over a barrel. Mom financed our start up so I don't feel like we can easily reject her opinion. Believe me, I pressed her to explain why she is taking it so casually all of a sudden. She is an attorney and looked over the NDA briefly. She was more concerned about the non-compete we signed. I don't see any reason not to trust her.
Disturbing thought if it's true that the company is crawling all over the site. Our supervisors were put out that we were spending so much time on another venture and the news traveled up the chain of command. Of course if I'd known where this was all leading I might have done things differently. But *please* don't tell B I admitted that!
I like the idea of a raise… very good idea.
Warm regards,
Cray

The Lady Liberty puzzle has a face hidden in the image. I found it by running it through a glowing edges filter. I posted the image on the EI2 Forum.

The face belongs to:

I called Bertram tonight, and poorly recorded the call. I uploaded it to my website, and here is the link.

enjoy if you are into that kind of thing

Basically, he doesn't trust me, but he did call me back, and I think he said the "Bright Raven Flies Tonight"

Hey cats-

I'm kind of new to the ARG thing, I've read through a few of them, and have been halfway involved with the Skynet thing...

But I've gotten involved with this thing, and I'm completely enthralled with it! I know we've been spending a lot of time with the puzzles within the cube, but what about all of the things outside of the cube? Storyline wise, company takeover, mysterious former tenant leaving everything behind.... who the builders are?

Is anyone thinking about this stuff/have any leads they're trying to follow, or are we basically working just off of the puzzles?

Welcome to uF! Glad to have you here playing EI2.

We're mostly going off of the puzzles right now, but we're all doing different things.

Plus, all of this makes me think we need a wiki..

Welcome, Timetobuzzthetower! Feel free to discuss the story and speculate away. That's part of the fun.

Mapmaker mentioned in chat (that's #ei2 btw... come and join) that the Morse code puzzle had a gargoyle in it which didn't help with the solve. Maybe puzzles hint at solves for other puzzles.
Here's "string" with contrast (see attached), which seems to have Mona Lisa's eyes in the lower right corner. Mona lisa was the answer to the color by number puzzle.

eta: "Text" manipulated also also has something in the lower left corner. Lol.. it almost looks like ET.

Good work, but I'll point out that it seems like all the puzzles are put on the same base background image. Notice the two large, dark dots in the upper right-ish of the pages. In almost all of them, I think. I'd assume what were're seeing with the eyes and ET are just noise, and us looking too hard.

Then again, it could be eyes and ET, as good as my record is.

Hey Cray,

Thanks for writing me back last night. I was curious yesterday whether there was more drama at work.

My mother is a lawyer as well, and from what she says, very rarely do non-competes hold up in Texas. That still doesn't help you escape them suing you over and over again until you have no more cash to fight. In the long term they could break you down.

I'm sorry Cray… I'm not being bright and peppy.

I've been sitting here thinking about some advice for you. It seems like you mentioned someone named Brandon in your company blog. Is it possible to track him down and talk with him about the cube? Maybe that will give you a lead. Or talk with your dad. What's his take on all this?

Jeromy

Cray's response

Quote:
Hi Jeromy,

If it weren't so late I'd write a longer email, but I did want to let you know that it's impossible to contact my dad because he left the scene back in the 70's. I've never really known him. However, I am going to try to find Brandon. I will call the realtor tomorrow to find out if there is any current contact info for him.

As for the company I think things have worked out in our favor, but I understand your skepticism. Believe me, I work with the king of skepticism.

I don't even know how to begin to thank you for all the effort you have given to our cause.

Best wishes,

Cray
