Did anyone ever mail anything to the PO Box? I think at one time they were expecting us to do that I just think we might have all brushed that off. Anyway it is prominently displayed in the picture of the black cube on B's blog.

Just on the off chance that this is what might be needed to get the game moving again I am going to mail something off today. Perhaps while C and B are on the lam they will rely on snail mail.

The PO box was for the company, so I imagine that the nameless corporation owns that just like they are taking over the cell phones.

I have to echo what Dante said. If this is the end, then we need something clearer than Bertram's blog post. We never seemed to follow his train of thought anyway. Also, if there's something more for us to find, then we need to hear from them on that point too. Again, B's blog isn't going to be a clear indicator.

So... is it over?

Picking up on some earlier posts in this thread ( April 26 and April 28 )...

Help!!!

I'm new-ish to the forum, so I don't even know who I would ask, but we need help.

It looks like the game is depending on us convincing Bertram to talk with Cray. The way to get to Bertram is to break his code..... which we are currently unable to do.

Does anyone know anyone here at UF who might be able to identify what kind of code it is.

Here's the information about Bertram's code:

At the bottom of this blog:

http://resurrectthetruth.blogspot.com/2009/04/leak_21.html

there's a code

6289 3052 7582

He says it's an easy code. so much so that a child could break it
also he says..."Oh, and if you still haven't solved the code. Don't worry. Take your time. Despite the name, it won't kill you."

here's another puzzle using the same code

6884 6884 3958 3958 6307 6307

That's all we have so far.

This was followed up (I think related to this post) with this message...

FractalP wrote:
Hmm, well, catching the train of thought from someone earlier on, the numbers correspond to genes. If you take the chromosome from each, you get:

11
X
10
A
A
N
N
D
D

That's a bit too somethingy to be non-somethingy, I think. It fits in with the 'health' comments.
This means the answer would be... err, 11x10 = 110 = 6 in binary. Dunno what the AANNDD means.

@roc3 The only trouble with T9 is that, from what I can find, it lacks a 0 key, unless you took that as a space. However, there was a lot of hype about phones causing brain cancer, and then scientists disproved it... so yeah, possibly. Looking at my phone right now Very Happy

I have a couple of questions about this, and then some speculation.

1. Do others agree that Bertram's number code is, in fact, based on gene numbering?

2. Is there a link to a good reference showing the gene numbering FractalP refers to and corresponding Chromosomes? (I did some googling and haven't found those 4 digit numbers so far).

My speculation is that we might take the page order (as we are have been working on in the ei2 forum, and as hinted at in Bertram's blog rantings), assign a date to a prominent event related to each of the 36 puzzle pages. Dates are somehow treated as 4 digit numbers (i.e. JFK's assassination on November 22, 1963 might be 1122 1963) which might then be decoded according to Bertram's number code (whether it turns out to be gene numbers or something else), and *poof* we get a secret message that wraps things up, or who knows?

( Off topic aside: @DanteIL, I thought I recognized your avatar from the LOST experience DJ Dan website http://www.djdan.am
lol, my youtube account from that time is imdjdan ... looks like we joined up here at unforums about the same time )

From Bertram in April

It not about genes. It's about knowing the truth.

I kind of hope this isn't the end, but at the same time... this never actually shaped up to be what I thought it could turn into...

And is it just me, or did B not do anything but piss you guys off, cause that's about all he did for me....

This can't really be over though, can it? Too much unanswered, and last I checked, we didn't even get through all the puzzles!

It was speculated early on that this entire game was a final project for a class at the University of Dallas, so, since classes are about finished, this game might be finished as well. It seems odd, though, to create such content like the consoles only to drop it two months later before everything was solved.

As for B's code, he did state that a child could break it, so it is hard to believe that it has anything to do with genes and chromosomes. He also mentioned in one of his comments that we should 'think like him' and imagine ourselves as the sender instead of the receiver.

This is why I suggested T9 or other predictive text: simple enough a kid could pound out the numbers and get the message, plus the numbers are what the sender would enter, not what the receiver would get.

'despite the name it won't kill you' and 'thanks for all the fish' seem to strongly hint at the blowfish cipher http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowfish_(cipher) but no success yet.

Although this doesn't fit with 'a child could break it' maybe this hints at the keyword.

I'm hip to it probably being a final project, but really, why do it if you're gonna leave it hanging? We didn't solve the puzzles, we didn't scratch anywhere NEAR the potential this thing has....

I'm not ready to call it over and done, but without a bit more interaction, or ANYTHING pushing us, I'd be likely to call it a fail.

So much promise... and the feeling we were SO CLOSE to really opening something up... kind of frustrating.

With the "Thanks for all the fish" reference, and the fact that the cube interface gave a humorous reply to 42 "the ultimate answer", maybe this whole cube ties into Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, or Infocom games. I'm pretty sure Ursa Minor shows up in the 'guide' for one. That would be a crazy ending though.

ref command list thread:
http://www.electron-innovations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12

Another speculation is that the currently "disconnected" interfaces are really not disconnected at all - they just show that message unless you type in the correct pass phrase. This could be the meaning of Bertram's things are not as they seem ramblings... but that's a long shot.

If this is, in fact, a school project, it may well be that they are hitting the end of the semester (and maybe the puzzle solve time took longer than they planned for) ... but given they haven't neatly wrapped things up yet, I'd say wait and see. There could be a summer session, or the folks who did this could continue it outside of school (but have to set up some other sites maybe), etc. You can bet that those behind the scenes see this thread and are probably busy or contrained by TINAG at the moment. I think the display of the black cube hints strongly that there is a continuation in mind ... eventually.

At the moment, we still have a couple of unsolved pages, Bertram's number code to figure out, and a probable global puzzle involving the order of all 36 pages, watermarks, dates of historic events and who knows what? Bertram talked a lot about "connections" (which along with the name Cray always makes me think of the cube-shaped Connection Machine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connection_Machine super computer), but in this ARG seems to mean we need to find connections between the puzzle pages to solve this thing.

this could've been a class related thing; some school have projects to do, and some of these projects can be done in a random format; some choose ARG as a good format because it's very interactive, fun, and usually informative of random things. it could also be a test ground, and it could also be that they're "running away to some place safe". we'll have to wait another few days.
not to mention the weird black cube... D:

I didn't have much luck with Blowfish either but may not have been decrypting correctly. Here is my post from before with a decrypt tool I found.

It does sound like he's telling us we're not exactly on the right track with OTP. I certainly haven't had any luck with OTP.

I'm not sure whether this answers the question, but this was just posted today here (7th comment under Cray's May 5 Team Meeting blog entry):

To me, it sounds like the initial website is retired, but perhaps the game will continue in some form elsewhere. Might be prudent to copy vital info (puzzle images) from the EI forums (?)
