I'm assuming the box is from the future and the schematics were thrown together by Cray's father and/or the mystery partner in the past as a means of accessing the information contained within. Hence, the roman numerals indicate a date (as they are wont to do) while still explaining the use of obsolete technology.

Under that assumption, might be interesting to learn a bit more about Cray's father, since he's the presumptive source of the weird.

maybe, maybe not. maybe there ARE supposed to be nine holes.. if we could get a view of the entire cube (every face), it would be helpful. maybe the numbers correspond to which pins AREN'T used, etc etc... it's too open...

also... giving up on WITB for about a week... i'll be probably on here...

as for another thing, i think this is a neat viral advertising thing for Cray, etc.. if so, i'll be rather happy

Cray Cook tweets

There's been some back and forth tweets with Cray and someone names Beatrice Bosworth.

Quote:
@CrayCook Cray. I think "THEY" finally found me. I got a real threatening phone call from an anonymous source. I'll tell you more in person.

@BeatriceBRaven Hey, are you okay? What are you talking about?

@CrayCook They called again. They said they saw a similar cube. It was very suspicious. SOMEONE is watching. BE CAREFUL!

@BeatriceBRaven Alright. Call me. I'll be up for about an hour.

@CrayCook My phone's not safe. They're monitoring it. I hope they don't know about this. WE NEED TO TALK IN PERSON NOW!

@BeatriceBRaven You know everyone's been so nice I'm having a hard time imagining there's trouble... but okay, I'll meet you.

@CrayCook The phone's tapped, damn it. I can't call. They'll hear. Meet me outside our usual dinner place. Hopefully, they don't know that.

This was about two hours ago. Beatrice is apparently the person the designed the website and just recently updated the forum software. Cray refers to her as B.

Yeah, that's our fault. We sorta called them up during the Netcast.

Beatrice is apparently Bertram Bosworth (that's the number we called, anyway) which is all kinds of weird.

Oh, and Bertram / Beatrice has a blog.

Discovered this going on over the weekend, getting caught up, noticed a new blog post by 'B' in which he talks about codes...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Based on how he said he'd work out the code, I think the current code phrase to use is Crime Bosses, but I could be wrong, won't be the first time

Back to lurking around...

Yeah, I've got a few other ideas too, that seemed to be what he was talking about, even though it didn't make too much sense...

I don't know how much time I'll be able to invest, but I've left a voicemail on Cray's answering machine and I'm lurking about.

Been looking to get back into the game world, and since I live in D/FW, I might actually get to do some fieldwork!

To clarify what the discussion is about, Bertram / Beatrice (he did the name switcheroo in a paranoid attempt to preserve some online privacy) made the following comment in a recent blog post:

Quote:
So, for those loyal truth-seekers out there that truly want to help, I've made a system. I'll post codes to contact me with or encoded messages periodically throughout the pages. Hopefully, they'll seem mostly innocent to the people watching me, but to the true fans, it should immediately become obvious that it's a code.

I've placed a simple 2 word message in the most recent video on Electron Innnovations' website. For those keeping track, that's the video for April 14.

Thus, the puzzle is to figure out what two words to use to gain Bertram's trust. He'll be changing them periodically.

On the Electron Innovations site, Cray got her hands on an older Apple but couldn't get the cube to connect. Luckily, the commenters realized the problem. I'm putting it behind spoiler-text because it's an awesome solution and a cool introductory puzzle/interaction.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The computer wasn't plugged in

Now that it's working, the cube is giving a "Who are you" prompt.

Laughing

The threatening phone call Bertram received? From none other than Unfiction and ARGNet's own jamesi on the ARG netcast from this past Monday. Make sure you download it when it's up, filled with lols.

I'm noticing Bertram refers to his twitter that he thinks we haven't found on his blog- and a Youtube page as well. I'd gather that's the next direction to start looking. I've tried looking for beatricebraven and BBoss1984(his blogger screen name) as well on Youtube, but found nothing. Ideas?

ETA: Trout myself, notgordian mentioned jamesi's call to B.

I contacted B through twitter and asked about DnD books. B replied telling me to check the page about AoO. I have players handbooks for all three editions that have AoOs but only a dmg from 3.0 and all should have pages about AoOs so I'll check them out when I get home.

On a side note this is my first time playing. I have lurked a little bit but not much so let me know if I'm doing anything wrong.

Got it. I sent Bertram the following email:

Bertram,

Hello, I stumbled upon Electron Innovations while doing some research on Apple II computers. When I saw the cube, I couldn't stop staring. It's a very interesting looking little hunk of metal- any ideas on how to answer "Who are you" yet?

Regards,
tygr20

He responded with:

Good. You found it. It's good to know there's people backing me up.

Yeah. We found out that e-mails seem to work for the "Who are you?" question. Unfortunately, we hit another wall. It asked for a password, and after that, it wasn't responding.

There were some... issues after that. Those have been resolved now though. We're getting some really interesting information out of the cube, I'm editing a video on this. It'll be posted to the EI2 blog soon. Keep an eye out.

Also, remember to watch my twitter, blog, and youtube page for updates on things like your eye problem.

The phrase?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
STOP STARING. It was on the cover of a book. When he moves the camera over towards Cray and the computer, it's on the right side of the screen on top of some boxes.

I guess next, I ask him for the URL for his YouTube page, see what's to be found there.

Interestingly, from his response, it appears the cube wants an email address. Looks like it's time to start searching for the correct email address, and from there, the password it's asking for.

Lastly-

Welcome to unFiction! As long as you're trying to help, and not hinder, there's really no wrong way to play. Sometimes simple questions lead to great answers. Enjoy your stay, and be sure to ask around if you have any questions.

Double-posting for a stroopwafel: Stroopwafel

Also, just noticed no one has mentioned EI2 has a new video up. Shows the computer up and running, and B & Cray trying to figure out what to do with the cube. Video freezes up about 30 seconds from the end. I won't swear it, but it doesn't look like it's intentional. Asked B about it in my last email.
