[PUZZLE TRAIL] The Least Known Secrets
I repeat: the least known secrets are those which aren't even recognized as such.

I repeat: the least known secrets are those which aren't even recognized as such.

In here is a tragedy — art thou player or audience?
Be as it may, the end doth remain: all go on only toward death.

I created this little game partially inspired by Torment (and by my lack of success on those @&%$ blocks D: ) and partially by the apparent lack of these on Youtube format. Still, you probably needen't worry too much; GreenGecko has hundreds of times more knowlege on cryptography than I do.

WHO can play it? It's, of course, completely free, and with no download or registration anywhere. Some spooky/unpleasant segments may appear here and there, so you've been warned.

WHAT is it in there? Classic cryptology, celtic mythology, apophenia, subtext, subconscious, maths, myths, moths...

...sorry my atempts at alliteration are stupid; english is my 3rd language D:

HOW is it played exactly? The starting gameplay mechanics are that you're supposed to discover the starting gameplay mechanics for yourselves.

Truths and lies, life and death: a game of turning white to black and black to white.

WHERE is it played? This video gives some kind of an intro (it's widescreen, so viewing it there rather than embedded is sugested):

YouTube: Link

Its(my) Youtube channel's description gives the first cyphertext. I'd say that figuring out the gameplay style for the first part isn't too difficcult; still, I'll be glad to explain the basic mechanics/bury everything with tons of unnecesarily cryptic clues, on demand. It's the least I can do after this blatant self-promotion.

Good luck, and goodbye.

Ah, but verily... In here is a tragedy — art thou player or audience?
There is nothing which cannot become a puppet of fate, or an onlooker, peering into the cage.

OK, that's what I got so far:

The quotes from Free Will posts:
Quote:

Truths and lies, life and death: a game of turning white to black and black to white.

I'm guessing that the image he posted in this thread is stegged. Its actually a .gif image even though its titled as a .jpg . I am not sure how to unsteg it, but thats my suggestion for future action lol.

^_^ kawaiiabo emote is pleased.

It's The Enemy Within, from the awesome soundtrack from the awesome Deus Ex. Even the song's name seemed incredibly appropiate so I had to toss it in.

Since in the wikipedia article Bacon cipher is mentioned I tried this on the decoded sentence (A = big letters, B = small letters). Even though the number of letters fits nothing useful come up.

What exactly is "nothing useful"?

P.S.: I'm not sure if there was a problem with the destination, but even if it was it should be fixed now.

I'm really bad at Bacon Ciphers...never did learn how to do them.
I tried ROT-ing it-- nothing. Anagrams didn't seem to help either, there was way too many of them...

No one can deny the usefulness of something if he hasn't used it.

Look at the channel description again: it's not just WHAT to use, but WHERE.

Thanks for the hint, I already found it in the meantime. Unfortunately the normal search function on the "where" place does not come up with any result.

ETA: Hopefully other players soon join.

I am stuck. Am I the only player here?

The only hint I see on the new page is
FRA BA WRT EAR AY
and that it means:
FRANCIS BACON WROTE SHAKESPEARES PLAYS

So what could "frabawrtnarno" mean?

There is also a fency background image which could lead to something.
